Oh, I *like* this. There's very little FFIV fic out there, and it's always been my favorite game in the series.
Your characterization is solid- my only quibble is Edge in the beginning of the first chapter; he and Kain didn't get along particularly well in the game, and Edge flat out says he doesn't trust Kain on the Big Whale, so I guess I expected him to be a bit less friendly, and a little more flakey. Edge always seemed like kind of a spaz to me. Other than that, the characters are all spot-on, especially Rydia. (I love that you have her caring about Edge so much, but ultimately choosing her people over her happiness with him.)
Edge eating desserts in chapter 2 was awesome- “Suck it? You designed a food that can’t be eaten? That’s diabolical!” -I totally LOLed.
I like your attention to detail- Rydia's summoning circles, the food, Edge's clothing- and the cultural differences you've created between Baron and Eblan. I'm excited to see where this leads; I'm a huge fan of this pairing, so I'm definitely looking forward to future chapters!

Well, finally! I've been waiting for a fic like this! I like the Edge/Kain pairing for some reason, and I already like where the story is going. Great beginning, and I can't wait to see more!

Woot, update! I feel compelled to answer, so you know you're being watched greedily. Muar har. I can't really think of anything I didn't enjoy. Am i just so easily pleased? Not sure, but I'm certain that most of it was just you. :3 Rydia was absolutely beautiful, and their interaction didn't feel plot forced or anything. And Edge? Well. I could cuddle him all day and feed him all sorts of weird foods just to get his reaction. I think my favorite part was the way he just decided to mention taking Kain's spear. xD It made me grin.
Happy to see you update, hope to see more from you soon!

What a beautiful story, and an intriguing plot. I've never really thought about Edge and Kain, but the thought of them together tweaks my interest.. and I hope that you update as soon as you can! I'm looking forward to more installments as patiently as I can... but I'll wait as long as need be, so long as I can read more of this great writing. I really enjoy the way you describe his jumping, and I you're able to make him seem vulnerable, but tough... not mopey like in some stories.
Aaagh, there's just not enough words. I love it all!
