... Really gotta review, this time. This is about my third readthrough, on average (I've read chapter 2 about four or five times; chapter 3 only once previously, after which I flicked back to ch 2 as a salve to bring the sting of ch 3 down to a dull heat bringing the needy sex of ch 2 into greater definition, like how bitten skin goes all prickly and glowy when you lick it) - and, uh, I think you said reviews are fire to your loins or something like that, so I guess you're not too freaked out by compliments like the fact that I kept dozing off after finishing with mine. ^^;; But I'm reviewing, this time! This fic is such a series of uber-expresso shots, like Sephy's drink that time in BA - several shots of refined, distilled, highly concentrated liquid sex; quite a few shots of that-is-so-yes laughing out loud every few lines (Nibelheim. TLC. Yes.); a shot of nihilism ("...thrown in the same plot as if they loved each other." Not the sort of paragraph you can forget in a hurry); a shot of absolute heartbreak ("...I’ll snap your neck"...!?!!) - and they may not all hang together in such an integrated way as the scenes in BA (they remember that Sephiroth's mother told him to give up his humanity and destroy the planet, and yet he doesn't understand why Cloud's afraid of her? The jokes work in humour-mode, but there's a bit of suspension of disbelief in switching to the other shot modes, and it feels like a bit of a guilty-pleasure-paradox to try to think of the fic as existing in all modes at once), but the characterisation stays consistent and intense, emotion-wise.
And... yeah. This Sephiroth spent weeks at a time staring at the laboratory ceiling, and doesn't seem to have had a Vinny to talk to him, like BA's better-adjusted version. It must have taken him a long time to get himself treated like a human. No wonder he's flipping out at the thought of becoming some monster-spawning specimen. He could leave the human world behind as a vengeance-wreaking god, but not as a fucked-up experiment lying in the lab being torn up and devoured from the inside out by a swarm of disgusting, malformed hatchlings. And a Cloud that could work himself into Sephiroth's good graces in the middle of the Nibelheim crisis - who could react to all that humanity-forsaking anger by opening up and drawing closer - really would be the sort to nuzzle at his neck when he's at the height of fury. It's like the more intimidated he is, the more he offers up intimacy in a stubborn attempt to drag the mood in the right direction - but when it doesn't work, he leaves himself defenceless against every blow, and his instincts still don't let up on the urge to hold tighter & love harder. I'm just feeling for them both right now, and hoping the kittens make everything better.

Oh, very nice. I'm not a fan of mpreg, but I figured, from the way you wrote earlier chapters, that it would be Sephiroth as the mommy and I wondered how you'd handle it. I'm liking it so far. Sephiroth is some pissed, which he probably would be (pregnant? only women get pregnant!) and the whole egg thing.
