Alright this is a alternate reality fic this is as if everything that happened in the game didn’t take place Ritz was born the princess and always has been such so the world of Ivalice and everyone has new life histories.

Prologue

In the ancient forest home of the mysterious Viera...

“Princes Ritz Malheur. She is quite an adventurous girl. She’s caused problems for everyone else who was put in charge of her. She has a talent for escaping and finding her way into trouble. Thankfully, she can take care of herself, but it would still be best for her to have a guard,” the older Viera explained as Shara sat listening.

“So my job is to protect her?” Shara said, looking at the picture she was holding. In it was a young girl with long pink hair. She had a face that showed a strong will, and a body that was more like that of a training fighter than a spoiled princess.

“This should prove to be interesting,” Shara said with a slight grin.

Chapter 1

“Princess, Princess...where has she gotten off to this time?”

The royal guards were searching all over the place, but no matter where they looked, they couldn’t find the princess.

(They’ll never be able to find me up here), Ritz thought, looking down at everyone running around from the rooftop. She lay back, letting the sun's rays warm her. Just a few hours earlier she had been stuck in a small, musty room, being forced to memorize how many different types of Flan there were in the world.

“So this is where you’ve been hiding,” a voice said, startling Ritz out of the light sleep that she had fallen into. She sat up and saw a Viera standing over her. The sight of one of their kind outside of their home forest was very rare, so needless to say, Ritz was rather surprised.

“I am Shara, and I’ve been assigned to act as your bodyguard,” Shara explained, sitting down next to the younger girl.

“So are you going to make me go back down there and study more stuff that will never help me in any way ever?” she asked, ready to get away at a moment's notice.

“No, my job is to simply keep you from getting hurt. What you do with your life is up to yourself,” Shara said, laying back as well.

Ritz looked at her admiringly. (I’ve always heard that the Viera were beautiful, but I had no idea that they looked this lovely). Her eyes wandered along the older woman’s body, feeling rather envious of her far more developed curves.

After a few minutes of watching the steady rise and fall of Shara’s chest, Ritz decided that she’d fallen asleep. (Well, it looks like it’s time to test just how good she’ll be at her job), Ritz thought to herself as she stood up. She quietly walked away, doing her best not to make any noise...after all, a Viera’s ears weren’t just for show.

After she made it to the edge of the roof, she jumped down, landing with a soft thud. After taking a few seconds to get her balance back, Ritz took off running.

Shara sat up. (That girl’s skills are good...I barely heard a thing. She's wasted as a princess; she ought to be a warrior).

Meanwhile in town, Ritz had changed out of her usual clothes into a simple, baggy outfit and a hunting cap.

“There’s no way anyone will recognize me in this,” she said, pulling the hat down over her eyes to hide her face.

Ritz wondered through town, looking around for anything interesting. After a while, she ended up in the bad part of town.

(This isn’t good. I might be a decent fighter, but if anyone here figures out who I am, it could be bad).

She was trying to be as discreet as possible, but as she was walking away, she bumped into a Bangaa. The large reptile growled at her.

“Watch where you're going, child!” he said in a snarling voice.

“Sorry, I wasn’t paying attention,” Ritz said, backing away. She knew that she could probably take the Bangaa on by herself, but it wouldn’t be worth the risk of getting outnumbered.

“Hey, wait...I think I’ve ssseen her before,” another Bangaa said, coming out of nowhere.

“Yesss...ssshe’ss the princessss!” the new Bangaa said, grabbing hold of her wrists. Ritz knew right away that she was in trouble, and tried to pull away, but the large reptilian man was far stronger than her, and despite all her efforts, he easily held her in place.

“Ssso how much do you think we can get for her?” the first Bangaa asked.

(I’m in serious trouble! I can’t believe this is happening...I’ve ran off hundreds of times and I’ve never been in a situation this bad!) Ritz thought. She closed her eyes tight, trying to think of a way to escape, when suddenly one of her captors let out a sharp scream. She opened her eyes and saw an arrow sticking through the shoulder of the one that she’d bumped into.

“I suggest you let her go, or the next one will be between your eyes,” Shara said, holding up a bow with an arrow already notched.

“You think you sssscare me Viera?” the one holding onto Ritz asked, tightening his grip around her. Despite the fact that it hurt, she didn’t make a sound. She knew that it would only give him more confidence.

“I do not wish to kill you, but I will not hesitate if you do not release her this second,” Shara said, her voice completely calm and composed. Ritz could tell that even though the Bangaa said he wasn’t afraid, he was lying.

“I’d do what she says. A Viera never misses her mark,” Ritz said, hoping to bluff him out.

“Fine. Just put the bow away,” he let Ritz go and helped his friend to his feet.

“We’ll remember thisss!” the injured Bangaa said as the two limped away.

Ritz walked up to Shara, ready to be scolded. She had to admit that she deserved it this time.

“I suggest you be more careful in the future. After all, even I might have trouble finding you,” Shara said, turning away and heading back into the main part of town.

“Aren’t you going to yell at me or something about how it’s dangerous to go out on my own, or something like that?” Ritz asked, surprised by the Viera’s calm tone.

“I was young once, too, and I know that telling you not to do something will just make you want to do it even more. Besides, you're unharmed. That's all that really matters,” Shara said, continuing on. Ritz chased after her.
