Chapter 10
Tifa found Squall in a room, on his bed. Two days ago, he saw Cloud fly off with Rinoa. Squall wasn’t get much sleep and was trying to rest. He mostly stared at the ceiling. He was in a slight doze when Tifa woke him.
Tifa, “Sorry, I didn’t want to wake you up, but Kramer wants us both in his office.”
Squall, “Fine, I’ll be right there.”
She walks off. Squall meets her and Kramer in his office.
Kramer, “You look tired.”
Squall had no desire to talk it, “What is the problem?”
Kramer, “We have good news. Their hideout is one of two places. The underwater laboratory or the desert prison. We won’t be able to check them out. But I’ll go into that in a minute. We haven’t heard from Selphie yet. The two we sent to the ruins think they can operate the device. I asked them to return anyway. We feel there may an attack on Balamb Garden. There have been signs of troop movement in our direction. That is why I have asked most of our people back to the garden.”
Squall, “Time you expect them to arrive?”
Kramer, “Not certain. . . “
Tifa, “I guess we’ll just have to be ready for anythinJustJust tell us what you need so we can help.”
Squall, “Here is the plan. . . “
Balamb Garden was ready when the attack came. The attack came in two fronts. One wave was led by Cloud. It was held the majority of the men. The second wave was by air and led by Cid. Tifa could tell which one was Cid by the style of the flying. Cloud was leading some men to penetrate Balamb itself. He had Zell and Seifer, along with Seifer’s two allies and some grunts. Zell sported arm band with a gray jewel. His shirt sleeve hide most of it. Cloud was please by Seifer’s reaction to his choice of converting Zell. At the time Seifer was livid. They slipped past the main armies that were fighting outside and into Balamb. There they split into two groups. Zell, Fujin, Raijin, and two grunts go one direction. Cloud and Seifer went another direction. Squall and some others went after the infiltrators. They ran into Zell’s group.
Squall, “Zell?”
Zell, “That’s my name, don’t wear it out. Charge!”
The both groups fought it out. Squall couldn’t believe his friend was now fighting against him. Zell didn’t hold back and his arm band improved his skills. When it seemed Zell might win this fight, he gets radioed by Cloud. Cloud tells him to go to the second floor.
Zell, “Bye schmuck!”
Zell and his group run off. Squall gets called from Nina. A group is attacking the Headmasters office. He hurries up to the third floor. He leaves the elevator to see Cloud’s group just breaking into Kramer’s inner office.
Tifa was on the roof. Her team was shooting at Cid’s army. She took aim at Cid and began trying to disable his suit. Cid was good at flying it and evaded her shots. His men were getting in some good shots at the building and doing some damage. Then he saw something out of the corner of his eye. Yuffie got Quistis to dress in a different outfit and lean out a window. She looked like Cid’s wife, Shera, at first glance. This did more than distract Cid. Someone got their shot in and he crashes into Balamb Garden’s second floor. His men, in confusion, retreat from the garden.
Yuffie, “I hope we didn’t kill him.”
Quistis, “We better get over to him.”
They hurry with their men to where Cid crashed. They got there about the same time Zell’s group did.
Quistis, “Zell? You’re back?”
Zell, “Keep them away from the captain, men!”
Yuffie, “He isn’t on our side, girl. We must keep them from taking Cid!”
They begin to fight, each after the crashed mecha suit. While they fought, Cid crawled out of the suit. He had cuts, burns, and bruises. He passes out, sprawling onto the floor. Yuffie broke from the fight first and ran to him. Quistis and the others back off from the fight. They separated Cid from Zell’s group. Cloud then radios another command to all his men. Zell’s group immediately retreats from garden. Yuffie was examining Cid closely.
Quistis, “How is he?”
Yuffie, “I’m no a doctor. . . . how am I suppose to know?”
Quistis, “We better take him down to the infirmary.”
Cloud had his sword pointed at Kramer when Squall came charging into the room. Squall came to a halt.
Cloud, “So, what now Seifer. This is your plan.”
Seifer, “Just kill him!”
Cloud, “This old man?”
Squall, “Don’t kill him!”
Cloud, “I agree with that goofball. I don’t kill old men.”
Cloud uses a radio, his sword still pointed at Kramer.
Cloud, “Men, pull out. I repeat, pull out and go to plan D.”
Seifer, “Plan D? You back stabbing. . . “
Cloud swings his sword, before Seifer can use his gunblade, and impales Seifer.
Seifer falls over onto the floor. Squall was shocked to see how casually he killed his own ally.
Cloud, “I am out of here.”
Cloud throws down a smoke screen. When it lifts both Cloud and Seifer’s gunblade are . S. Squall goes to Seifer’s side and tries to slow the bleeding,
