Irvine's Secret
Chapter 10
"Soothsayer"
Squall once again returned to his office, calling the parents of the unfortunate SeeDs. He assured them something would be done and he would o anything he could to help them. He knew that she had to be captured. It was as simple as that. He wasn't sure what others had in store for her, but Rinoa has to be found and dealt with.
"Squall, I think the little one wants to see you." Laguna pointed back towards the elevator.
"Selphie." Squall stood. "Look...I understand how you feel. I do. I tried to get him to tell you before. Maybe that would have been better."
"How long has this been happening? How long have you been using my Irvine?" she sniffled.
"Using him? No, you don't understand. I love Irvine."
"I thought you were my friend!" she stomped her foot.
Laguna started to edge his way out. Squall eyed him and he sat back down. His eyes returned to Selphie. "Selphie. You're being childish. Of course I'm your friend."
"How can you say that? How are YOU a friend?"
"I'm your friend because I like you. I'm your friend because I make sure you're alright." He crossed to her. "I'm your friend because I made sure that Irvine should up for you birthday. Why? Because I knew it would keep you happy. I'm your friend because I want you to be well. Hell, we saved the world together! I'm your friend, Selphie, because I still care about you..." He hugged her and she broke into tears.
"Squall...I...I just don't understand why this happened. I don't know what to do. I don't know." she buried her face into his chest.
"It's alright. Selphie. I'm here for you buddy. Just cry until you can't anymore..." he sat on the floor with Selphie weeping in his arms. Laguna pat Squall on the head, whispering,"Good job." he went passed them and took the elevator down.
"So what do you think is wrong with her?" Quistis said her finger in her mouth. Just about the whole group was sitting around a lunch table. The cafeteria gave them a great place to converse, lunch wasn't for another hour. They all thought for a moment.
Zell stuck his feet up on the table. "Well, I've got noth'n."
"Well there has to be some reason." she replied.
"Aren't you supposed to be the smart one?" Irvine said with his face planted on the table.
"Don't make me kick you."
"Hey guys!" Laguna ran up energetically.
"What's going on Mr. President?" Quistis asked.
Laguna posed like a superhero. "Why thank you for asking! Nothing much is going on though." Irvine tugged on his shirt.
"Hey. Is her ok? He didn't yell at her did he?"
"Selphie is fine. Just leave her be for awhile, ok?"
"Yeah. I guess that's best for now, huh?"
Selphie wiped tears away, slowly regained her composure. "So he was worried for me?" she rubbed her eyes again, sniffling softly.
"Yes. The last thing he wanted to do was to hurt you." Squall pet her head.
"So he doesn't hate me?"
"No. No, of course not. He cares about you allot. We've just been really...frustrated lately. I'm sorry we were such jerks."
"Thank you, Squall." She squeezed him. "I'm still pissed off as fuck. But you're still my friend. Thank you."
"I didn't expect anything less. Feel like hitting me?" He nudged her.
Selphie shook her head. "No." she pinched his face as hard as she could and pulled his cheeks." But that will do."
"Owe.." he rubbed the pain away.
"Hey Squall?"
"Yeah?"
"Will Rinny be alright?"
"...I don't know. I really don't." Squall got up and moved to the phone. "But I'm about to see if we can get help in finding out." he picked it up and pushed a button on speed dial.
"Hello?" the monotone voice came through.
"Edea?" He sat.
"Yes, Squall?"
"We have a problem. It's about Rinoa."
"I know. The winds have changed here and the sea is still. It's happening again. Bring everyone here. I'll explain what's happening when you arrive."
"Will do." he heard the phone click in his ear. "Let's go Selphie."
"Ok! I got it! Rinoa...is the devil!" Zell threw his finger up like he actually believed what he said was true. Quitis slapped him on the back of the head.
"Shut up Zell."
"Oh! Oh! I know!" Laguna waved his hand with enthusiasm. "Maybe she has PMS!" he laughed.
"..." Quistis stared at him in shock.
"What?" he questioned. "I thought it was funny..."
"Well something is up with her." Zell gave up.
"And we're going to Edea's to find out." Squall approached. "And we can take the Ragnarok to get there."
Laguna smiled. "You just like pampering me don't you, mah boy?"
"Sure, Dad. Pack your stuff. Let's go!"
