Chp 14 (last chp for part 1)
Chapter 14
As the second battle began, Chancey began to pray with both materias on her lap. Her mind floats free and above the noise of the battle. She is with the woman who whispered to her in the city. The woman has long brown hair and soft love filled eyes. Her small astral body naked.
Woman, “My name is Aeris. I have watched over the planet and the life stream since my death.”
Chancey, “We need an Ancient to to recite the pray.”
Aeris, “I know. . . I will help you, but I also will need your help. I no longer have a body to use and I need yours. I promise I won’t stay long.”
Chancey, “Will this work?”
Aeris, “With two people? I don’t know. . . But we will try to save both men.”
Chancey merges with Aeris and from her lips begin the prayer. The battle is going bad when her body begin to float. Both materia float next to her. Both materias pulse and glow with energy. Each quote in a language no one has heard in years. Two circles, of white and black light, surrounded Cloud and Zackery. The others are pulled out of the way. All they can now do is wait.
Two psyches are hurled from a black mass and surrounded by a white light. Zackery feels the pure light and realizes his mind is free from Jenova cells. On the fringe is Jenova, a black mass trying to get them through their shield of light.
Cloud whispers, “So peaceful... All I wanted was some peace. To be set free.”
Zackery, “Is this sheild holy?”
They are next to each other, Zackery finds this calm man much different from the person they were fighting. They share for a brief second their thoughts. Each knew who the other was and find some common ground. Cloud is someone who cared deeply but at times found it hard to admit this. He has the same fears of weakness as Zackery. He also knew Cloud felt proud of his grandson. They feel a link form between them. Then the mass begins to push through the barrier and trying to reach for them.
Cloud, “This wasn’t meant for two people. I don’t think the materia is going to protect us both.”
Zackery, “What do you suggest?”
Cloud looks determined, “Thank Vincent for me.” Goes straight through barrier and is engulfed again by the mass.
Zackery, in vain reaches towards him, “No!”
The shield strengthens, neither Zackery nor Jenova are able to penetrate the shield.
The pray begins to work on the men. Cloud’s mutated form melts till they see his normal body in the lights. Then something goes wrong. Cloud hurls himself from the lights, screaming in pain. He then dashes down some crevice in the floor and into the planet’s depths.
Meanwhile, Zackery is bathed by the lights. As the black light moves over him, his body shudders. When the prayers and the lights stop, he falls to the ground. Some of his allies run to his side. Zackery slowly wakes up to see them around him.
Zackery, “Hey.”
Vincent (who is in his human form again) helps him up to his feet.
Chancey didn’t go with them, she stayed next to Madnol. He was slowly coming to and was very woozy.
Zackery walks over to them, “Are you two okay?”
Chancey, “I should be asking you that. I will be fine.”
Madnol, “Huh?”
Xavier, “Damn, you did get knocked for a loop little brother.”
Madnol, “I think I can get up, if I do it very slowly. I just need to wait for the cave to stop moving. ”
Vincent, “Cloud is gone to us. Maybe forever.”
Zackery, “Before he broke free, he wanted to thank you Vincent. I don’t know where he fled, but I don’t plan to give up hope. I finally met the real Cloud and I know he is still in there.”
They board the Highwind and go back to Tylunar Headquarters. The Turks take control over the building and almost complete their hostile takeover. Kain burns all the Jenova samples and the bodies of the infected men. He notifies the other people, who just came in to work, of the death of the president. He tells them the business day will continue as normal. The group learns the normal people (Scientist and business men) were sent out of the building on a mysterious holiday before the attack came. So they weren’t in the building during the take over. This order for the holiday was passed down by someone who looked like Cloud. Most of them took this shock in good stride and went about their usual business. Kain announces he will take over the functions of president till matters are sorted. They leave him dealing with the matters no one else wanted to touch.
They fly some of the Wutain men back home and go from there to Cosmo Canyon. There they meet Nanaki and his family at the entrance. Zackery tells what has occurred to the guardians of Cosmo Canyon. Then they sit and rest by the fire. Each one unsure what to do and yet aware things were far from over. Zackery still feels his connection with Cloud. Cloud was in the dark somwhere. He sends his own prayer that Cloud can hang on till they free him. As the sun rises on a new day, he feels renewed hope for the world.
Zackery, “Maybe there is a chance. . . “
