Chapter Fifteen: Say You'll Stay
He laid her limp body on the couch, a sickening feeling in his stomach as he did so. Squall couldn't remember the last time he had been in love. It was never love, it was usually one night and if they were lucky, a morning. He'd date girls with flower names; Lilly, Rose, Sunny...They were easy, he'd say, they had no heart to give.
But Lisa, she was a mystery. A challenge, someone he saw himself taking care of. She seemed familiar, like a home he once knew. Green eyes that would switch with her emotions. Beautiful, he could stare at her for hours, and start to remind himself that there was a hole deep down inside of him. It's where he wanted to place her.
Squall wanted each and every part of her. 'If it wasn't for those damn dreams...' but he could never finish that sentence. He would have still found himself falling into her, and wanting to know more. Where did she come from? some villager said she had fallen from the clouds. It was the first time he had smirked in a long while.
He sighed, looking back over at her. He'd make Adel pay, no pay was too nice of a word. It sounded too simple. Suffer. He would make the bitch suffer for putting Lisa into this coma. For taking away his hope and smashing it into pieces. His knuckles turned white, he had been squeezing his hands in anger, trying to restrain himself from punching something, and the closest thing there is, was Zell.
The blond jumped up and down, somehow managing to do this for a whole twenty minutes. Squall had finally had it, as he got up from the chair, successfully making it fall to the ground. This had gotten everyone's attention. Lunar Gate was silent, the guards were probably making their way down there, already.
Quistis was the one who dared to speak first. "Squall-I know you're upset about this. I think we all are. Just try to calm down-"
"Shut up," he snapped at her, making it clear that there was no reasonable purpose for him to be calm right now. She looked taken back, as she straightened out her glasses. She decided to give up and continue looking out the window.
Rinoa got up from her seat, fidgeting with her nails. She had been nervous since she got here and now that Squall was pissed off, she felt even more nervous. "So, their going to take her into space?"
Squall mumbled a yes, taking another glance at Lisa. He knew that at any second she could open her eyes and she'd be his again. He almost hated this side of him, the side he thought he had erased. The feeling to need someone, to rely on someone. But it was clear now that these were his friends and the girl on couch was the girl he needed.
"Okay, three people are going, not including the girl, correct?" the staff member asked, checking off things on her paper.
"I'm going..." Squall said, dully. This wasn't exactly a vacation for him. There might not even be a trip home. Where she goes, he goes. It's was decided the day Lisa first came to him in the training center.
He stepped inside the small tube, not really liking the situation. Aside from being an admirable commander, he was also very claustrophobic. The glass shut and the tube started to move. After seeing the consumed looks on their faces, Squall doubted that anyone would join him.
As soon as the tube stopped, he waited for two of his companions. To his surprise Irvine and Zell decided to take the trip with him. Squall extended his hand to Zell and placed his other hand on Irvine's shoulder. "No matter what happens, we do this together. From here on out, it's us."
Irvine nodded, tilting his hat a bit. "As long as I'm getting some sweet loving after this, like...I guess I'm in. We were brothers once, all of us. I wouldn't feel right if-"
Zell laughed, "C'mon, Baby. Don't get all emotional. You're a cowboy for Hyne's sake!"
Squall walked past the two, making his way through the glass doors. Once he made it past the resting area, he walked in through the ship's infirmary. He knew that's where they had taken her, and low in behold, there she slept. His hand traced the knob, about to open it, before someone came rushing in.
"The alarm will go off if you open that," the doctor said, breathlessly. "It's so we know if she moves. When there's any activity red lights will flash and you will be the very first to know."
This he accepted, as he nodded. "Very good."
The doctor walked Squall, Irvine, and Zell to the control room, where everything was being put together. The screen caught Squall's attention. It basically indicated that there was thousands and thousands of monsters on the moon. Of course, no one knew what to believe.
A technologist looked over at Squall, "We're trying to make sure Adel's capsule is completely shut, you know the dangers if she escapes. That's why it was clever to put her out here. And no one, except a selective group know how to get in."
-
(IMPORTANT: I have made this part combined with both Squall's and Lisa's feelings. Lisa is still seeing things the way Adel wants her to. So, Squall's feelings will be regular text, but Lisa's will be in Italics, like this.)
I can feel it, without knowing it's there. The only time of year where you can smell the grass, as clear as the lemonade pitcher. But I couldn't move, didn't even want to. I just wanted to bath in the heat of summer and continue to nap against the comforting breeze.
"I can stay here forever, you know..."
The voice was soft, almost coaxing me to open my eyes, but they felt so damn heavy. I tried to wiggle my fingers, finding much difficulty in doing so. "Squall."
"Squall, she said something," Zell beamed, pointing to the camera. "I swear! I even saw her move her fingers a bit."
Squall jolted up at the news, looking to the monitor, where the girl still looked like she was asleep. Hyne, his blood was pumping fast. How he wished she would just move or open her eyes.
"Are you sure, Zell?" He asked, gray eyes still searching the black and white screen.
"If it means to be with you, I'd stay here. I promise." I could actually hear the smile in his voice and I felt his hand move over mine. "Follow me."
I squeezed my eyes shut, even tighter. I once again attempted to move, my veins were probably popping out. "I-can't move."
He chuckled softly, as he leaned over me. The warmth of his lips were close to mine, a delightful smell to him, as he holds me close. "No worries, I'll carry you."
Squall gripped my fingers, lunging me forward. I took a small step and found it much easier than before. I opened my eyes, no longer feeling weak or tired. My body shook, as I clung to him in a strong embrace. "I missed you."
The red lights went off, startling everyone in the control room. Once again, Squall looked at the monitor. To his amazement, Lisa was out of the bed, but something was off. She stumbled from side to side, swaying to the door, where the guard stood, stalwart.
"We're so glad that you're up," the guard said, reaching out to grab her arm.
He grabbed my arm and pulled me to his chest. "Are you still okay to walk or do you want me to carry you?"
I laughed, as I grabbed his hand. "I can walk-who is that?"
"Their soldiers..." he trailed off, reaching for Lion Heart. "I've never seen ones like these before, so stay close to me."
I searched my sides for my blade, and it wasn't there. "God."
"...Witch...Kill the WITCH...Murderer...Sorceress..."
Squall looked down at me, his blue eyes sparkling with sadness. I held his gaze, before the Soldier seized my arm, tugging me closer to him. My hand met with his broad shoulder, causing him to stumble back.
"Miss, wha-" the guard stood frozen, as her fist collided with his jaw, solidly. She was strong, he determined. He tried to rapture her in his arms, but a force drew him back against the glass door, he had shattered it.
Irvine whistled, "Lisa's got some power."
The words were lost to Squall, as he continued to stare on in disbelief. It had crashed down on him, harshly. He knew now, that Adel was inside of her, conducting Lisa's body. Lisa was a sorceress, she'll be killed for sure. He sighed, he can tell by the expressions of everyone's faces, that they knew also.
"I'll take care of this," Squall said, aggressively. "I don't want anymore guards out after her, she doesn't know-that she's doing wrong."
He grabbed for his gunblade and ran out of the room.
More rushed by me, apprehensive as they came forth. I placed my hand out, once again thinking of something strong and light. I felt my finger tips numb with this unexplainable energy, and I could actually feel the damage it's causing. I stopped, no longer feeling a pulse.
When I opened my eyes, I knew why the rhythmic beating had stopped. When I had felt the pattern, I was actually holding onto their hearts, their life. I didn't know if I was scared or if I was glad that I got rid of them, so quickly.
"Can't forget your smile," he breathes, tiredly, with his hand poised on his hip. "Want to finish that adventure?"
Bodies were laid out in the middle of the hallway, no sign of blood, or bruises. Magic had been the source. Electricity still zapped around, it had been done only seconds ago. Squall entered the gear room, watching Lisa zipper up in a space suite. His insides were screaming as she bounced up, disappearing from his view.
The gear was gone, probably taken by the whole god damn squad that's out there! He returned to the control room, throwing Zell and Irvine a glare. It was cold, it was real fucking angry. Lisa was awake, now she's in space, probably decoding Adel's capsule.
A scientist turned to Squall, eyes as wide as saucers. "Is she about to do what I think she's-"
In unison, the boys' turned to the shaking team, and said, "Yup."
It was a tower, a very huge, very tall tower, and I watched him climb up. My hands clunk against the bars, as I pulled myself up, only a few inches away from Squall. I didn't want to look down and from the looks of it, I was touching Heaven. I don't even remember how long we've been at this.
"We're almost there," he promises, finally pulling himself up over the railing. I grasped his hand, hugging onto him, as he pulled me with him. "All we need to do is press in those codes. Let me read them to you..."
I heard him call out the codes and I worked each button, when it was completed, the tower started to shake. Once again, I held onto Squall, in fear that we would fall over, and we did. The fall was much more slower than it was suppose to be, more like having a parachute on.
I shut my eyes, feeling a sudden change. A weird, mixing, almost awaking change.
"Hold on," Squall said, as he managed to wedge the doors to Ragnarok . He stabled their bodies against the surface, trying to open the doors, without breaking them off.
They both fell to the floor, the hit causing Lisa to groan, painfully. She grabbed onto her head, frowning at the realization that she was in a heavy, and very uncomfortable space suit. She found the latch and unhooked the mask, then to the zipper.
"Lisa?"
She turned her head, almost in shock. Squall was there, in front of her. It was like she hadn't seen him in years, without this dream-feeling inside of her. The smell wasn't dull and neither was the scenery. It was the damn Ragnarok!
"...is it you...can you hear me?" Squall urged, his patience wearing thin. Too long, he thought, too lonely. If this was indeed Adel, he'd feel...was this broken? it confused him. Squall doesn't do heart-breaks, doesn't cry, and he sure as hell doesn't feel lonely. He is simply, content.
Lisa looked him over for a few minutes, not understanding this feeling. It was just a nightmare, she bidded, as she looked into his eyes. He looked sad and unfocused, like he had been straining himself for the past, ever.
She nodded once, before removing the rest of the jacket. "It's me."
As she confirmed this, Squall lunged forward, wrapping his arms around the startled girl, pulling her against his body. Lisa was frozen at first, before resting her head against his shoulder. They stayed like this for awhile, never changing position or breaking the mood. It was magnetic, it was comforting. Alive.
"I felt like I was trapped...that I was dead. I thought that I would never see you or-" A finger silenced her lips, an adorable smile spread across his features. "Lisa, would I ever let that happen to you?"
She shook her head, almost instantly. "Let's go, we have some demons to kill. In color order."
"Are you kidding?"
