Chapter 17
Vincent sat huddled in the bathtub as the warm water flowed soothingly over his aching muscles. 'How could I have let it get this far?' Not only had he fallen back into another of his 'episodes', he had done so in front of one of the few people in this world he respected and trusted.
'YOU DID NOT LET ANYTHING GET ANYWHERE, HOST. THAT WAS SIN'S DOING.'
"Sin?" Vincent questioned aloud. At the name, the strange presence seemed to solidify more firmly in his mind though he still could not 'see' it as he did Chaos and the others. 'We are invisible to you because you have forgotten us. Remember and perhaps we will return to where we slept, as we were ordered to stay until Master collected us.'
Chaos roared in frustration as a wave of dizziness passed through Vincent's mind.

"We are an extension of Master's will. We are what he makes of us."
Hojo adjusted his spectacles, sneering at the black-haired figure kneeling before him. "Very good my pet. Seems like we have finally rid you of those petty emotions of yours."
"Yes Master." The multi-toned voice droned.
"Hm. Since that pesky human conscience of yours is finally gone, perhaps we should give you a new name," the scientist seemed to ponder the idea of a moment. His wandering gaze fell to the still body nearby, blood staining the yellow dress on the small girl. The Professor smirked, "Perfect. Since you have been reborn from the sins of your past, that is what you shall be called."
"Yes Master."
Hojo took a moment to truly study the subject before him, "Hm, it's been a while since we've fed you. Let's make things easier on the clean up crew, shall we?" He pointed to the small body nearby and commanded, "Feed."

"Oh Gaia!" Vincent gagged as the memory filled his mouth with the taste of cold flesh and blood. He quickly moved forward to his hands and knees as his body heaved, spilling the acidic liquid in his otherwise empty stomach. 'He ordered me to...I actually...How could I?'
'IT WASN'T YOU, HUMAN. HOW MANY TIME AM I GOING TO HAVE TO TELL YOU...'
'But it was him. His is us.'
'SHUT UP YOU. THE MOMENT HE AWOKE IN THAT COFFIN AND YOU REMAINED ASLEEP, YOU WERE SEPARATED FROM HIM, SLAVE. YOU MAY BE BONDED ENOUGH TO HIM THAT I CAN'T KILL YOU AS I WOULD LOVE TO, BUT YOU ARE NOT HIM.'
'It matters not. When Master returns, his existence will cease once more and we will be all Master needs.'
'WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO GET YOU TO REALIZE THAT THEY ARE DEAD, SLAVE?'
"Shut up the both of you!" Vincent growled and slammed up his mental walls. It wouldn't hold them out permanently but at least it would grant him a few moments peace. Turning off the water, he stood on shaky legs and left the shower.

Yazoo moved out of his brother's embrace, removing a long black box from inside his leather trench coat. A dark red substance was splattered on one side. Loz raised an eyebrow, "So that's what took so long?"
"They had more guards than expected," the marksman replied in a bored tone, "I left no witnesses. They won't be noticed for a while, the owners are quite occupied with other things. The key piece isn't there but I know where they are keeping it. I will be able to retrieve it just before things are set in motion."
"It would be risky to start without it secure in our grasp Yazoo."
"Don't you think I know that," The younger Remnant cast a glare at his brother, "Just because I can't hear her anymore doesn't mean I am not aware of the importance of our work."
"Just remember where your loyalties lie, little brother," Loz commented dryly, ignoring Yazoo's anger as he settled cross-legged on the ground.
Silence filled the air for a moment before an exhausted sigh left the younger man. "I apologize Loz. It's just hard not having her presence."
"It will be alright Yazoo. Go now, we need to be ready for the right moment to present itself."
The long haired man nodded once and dashed off. His steps were familiar and his mind drifted, things were changing and he didn't care much for it. After they had left Vincent's house, the two of them fell into an easy routine. They would travel for a short time and then, during a break, Loz would settle in an abandoned area to call on their oldest brother. The fighter told Yazoo that Mother wanted him to be able to call on Sephiroth without passing out afterwards, keep him in this world for as long as possible before their plan was executed. Their brother's aid would be key but Yazoo couldn't help but feel that Loz was drifting away from him, changed more each time he called on the silver haired General.
'It is our destiny though, we were never meant for anything but to emulate him. I should be proud that brother has been chosen.' The marksman tried to convince himself but still couldn't shake the feeling that he was losing something precious.
~
Scarlet eyes fell to the pile of black cloth and leather on the floor, Vincent's nose wrinkling slightly at the smell of old blood on his clothing. When he had fallen unconscious, they had removed his cloak but left his shirt and pants alone. 'Probably afraid to look at the monster under the black.'
Opening the door slightly, the gunman noticed the bedroom was clear. 'Nanaki and Cloud are probably retrieving Denzel and Marlene.' He hurried over to the dresser, pulling out a shirt and pair of pants identical to the ones on the bathroom floor. He had several sets of the black outfit, it was comfortable and functional. He felt no need to dress otherwise. Vincent heard footsteps in the hall and hurriedly pulled on his pants, hoping whoever it was would be courteous enough to knock first.
"Hey, Vincent, we need your help down..." Cloud paused mid sentence as he opened the door to the bedroom, his eyes widening, "Holy..." Though black leather pants covered the lower half of the gunman, his upper body was bare, revealing scar-riddled flesh. The largest of them was thin and T-shaped, running from the waist of his pants to just below his collarbone. 'As though Hojo performed an autopsy while he was still alive.' The swordsman gulped, knowing the mad scientist, he probably had. Cloud's eyes then went to the gunman's face, freezing when he saw the look of shame and fear in the scarlet gaze. Remembering Nanaki's words, he quickly spoke, "Sorry about that. Guess it was stupid of me not to knock and all." He turned away to give the man some privacy, "Denzel and Marlene are still in the house, apparently Tifa and Barrett came in and kept them here. Figured it would be safe enough if all of us are around." Cloud grinned as he glanced back toward the gunman, "Hey, you gonna come down and get some breakfast? Tseng and Reno are down there waiting for you."
Dark eyebrows rose as Vincent finished with the buckles on his shirt, "Why?"
"Well they really weren't given a choice. They showed up while you were in the shower and, well, let's just say Tifa wanted some answers."
Vincent groaned as he reached for his cloak, pulling it around his shoulders easily. "I'm not worried about Tseng but I guess I better go keep Reno from getting killed for saying something stupid."
"I don't think you'll have to worry too much about that."
It turned out Cloud was correct, the gunman found out as he came down to the bar. Tseng sat in a stool in the corner, patiently watching the rest of the bar with mild amusement. Reno, however, was tied to one of the tables with Tifa glaring down at him, "If I had known you were into the kinky stuff, I would have brought my cuffs."
Tifa huffed and stalked over to Barret, whispering in his ear. The dark man laughed, "You are damn evil, woman. Remind me not to piss you off." He bent down and removed his shoe and one of his socks, handing the fabric to the fighter.
Tifa gave the redhead a chilling grin as she sauntered back over to the table with the sock balled up in her fist, "Reno, the next time you want to open your mouth and say something to a woman's breasts, remember this," She shoved the smelly apparel into his mouth, sealing it in as she tied a piece of fabric around his head.
Barely heard over the redhead's muffled cries, Tseng gave a short laugh, "Wish I had thought of that. Miss Lockheart, have you ever considered joining the Turks? You would do well with interrogations I do believe."
"I know you mean it as a compliment, Mr. Tseng, so please don't take offense when I say hell no!" Tifa stalked toward the kitchen but quickly stopped when she saw Cloud and Vincent in the stairway. "What are you two laughing at?"
The spikey haired blonde raised his hands in surrender and back away while the dark gunman merely leveled a look at her, "I don't laugh."
Vincent nodded to the Turk leader, signaling that he would be back to talk to him momentarily before he turned into the kitchen. He knew Nanaki would be in there, anxiously awaiting the first serving of bacon and eggs. "I'm glad to see you up and about, my friend."
The gunman inclined his head toward the fire wolf, grateful once again that Nanaki chose not to comment on what happened upstairs. "You are back early, I thought you would still be at the house."
The fire wolf dropped his head and frowned, "We had trouble. The SHERA was damaged by a monster. When we heard the description, it sounded too much like the monsters the Remnants summoned before Bahamut. Cid called for the Tiny Bronco II and we only got back an hour ago." Nanaki looked into Vincent's eyes, "You were right, we shouldn't have left. They escaped."

Aww. I forgive you for not murdering Cloud. It's all good. lol I really liked the little part with Nanaki yelling at Vincent. It was interesting to see your take on the whole situation. It makes sense. ^_^;; Looking forward to another update soon!
Frizz: It took a while to get that right. I wanted to make it believable but not rushed...that's why I placed the bit of backstory. It seemed out of character for Nanaki until I got that in. As far as how fast I update, it doesn't seem to be fast enough for my head. Keep having crazy FF7 dreams...I think the obsession is starting to affect me. <_<;...;>_>...O_O
