The Game Is Still On
Disclaimer: Same as Chapter 1. I don’t own any of the characters, nor am I making money off of this story. I’m just using them until the motivation to write an original story comes back to me.
A/N: Thanks for the reviews. They, combined with my friend’s input, were enough to talk me into continuing this, but I think it’ll be slow going because I haven’t thought too much about what I want the plot to be. Just bear with me though because I promise I’ll work on writing more whenever I can. Not every chapter will have sex although there will be some references to it. This chapter has some implied Laguna/Squall as well as some flashes back to Chapter 1 with thoughts about them added in (they’ll be in italics), but that’s really it. I’ve decided to alternate viewpoints, so this is from Squall’s POV.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I wake up the next morning, he’s gone. I really hadn’t expected anything else because I made it clear that last night was nothing more than both of us getting off because we wanted it and the teasing had gone on long enough. Rolling over, I see a note on his pillow, so I pick it up, read it, and groan. It says, “Save a horse, ride a cowboy.” Typical Irvine to say something like that…I think I’ll keep this note and stick it somewhere just to remind myself that I got what I wanted, even if it was just a one-time thing. It goes in my dresser drawer for the time being.
He must have been chewing gum or sucking on a mint before he met me last night because his mouth is cold and tastes like mint, such a contrast to his warm skin so very close to my own. I should have let him touch me to keep the memories better, but oh well.
For a while I lie there, not wanting to get out of bed because I know that I’ve got a long, boring day ahead of me. The best part won’t be until late this afternoon, when Laguna and I actually get to talk about something other than business matters. Maybe I’ll mention last night to him, see if he thinks it’s possible for two people to have a sexual relationship without any feelings getting mixed in with that. If so, then I’ll have something to talk to Irvine about the next time I see him.
Eventually, I force myself out of bed and into a clean set of clothes. I don’t think I’ll have any need to relieve some stress today, so Lionheart stays in its case. Fresh memories will do more to keep me relaxed than any number of monsters killed. As I walk towards the Cafeteria, I spot Selphie, who begins to giggle the instant she sees me. Knowing how close her and Irvine are, he’s probably already told here everything. I suspect she’s the one who told him about the pictures still being on my computer as well as the one who took them, but I don’t really care as long as she doesn’t tell everyone in Garden about them.
How willing he was to let me be the one in charge when he’s the one who set it up by sneaking into my room…that surprised me, but I didn’t let it show. I couldn’t, really, because I was too lost in the moment. Seeing him lie there on the bed wearing nothing was better than I’d dreamed it would be. And being inside him… Hyne, that was one of the most intense feelings of my life.
Damn its hard to concentrate on the things I have to do when all my mind wants is to relive last night over and over. This never happened the night I got drunk in Deling City and ended up sleeping with Laguna… why is it happening now? The obvious answer would be because I enjoyed it more and that’s true, yet still I can’t allow my head to be off somewhere else when I’m supposed to be talking to people about SeeD missions and the way things are going to restructure the Galbadian government now that the Second Sorceress War is over and Vinzer Deling is dead. Cid and Edea have more orphans to raise now, more children who will most likely end up here, becoming the next batch of SeeDs. I’m strangely bothered by that fact, but right now is not the time to be thinking about it.
With the exception of a short break for lunch, I’mthe the third floor office all day long, listening to seemingly endless reports that tell me pretty much the same thing, but in different words. I’m sure someone else, like Quistis or Xu, would be much better at this job, but only Cid can give one of them the job of Commander.
I’m not meant for this leadership job. Some of the things I hear are uplifting- like the removal of all military presence from Timber and the subsequent election of Rinoa as mayor or the fact that General Caraway has assumed leadership of Galbadia and will be speaking to me in a couple of days about how much their military will be pulling back, but the rest is just boring.
His smooth, warm skin against my fingers, me gripping him so tightly I know he’s got bruises today…the images just won’t leave my head. Irvine cried out my name as he came, I wish I could have seen the look on his face at that instant, but I’d insisted on not looking at him, making the sex as impersonal as I could. I want him again, to actually let him touch me and see his face at every moment…wait, where in Hyne’s name did THAT thought come from?
At about four in the afternoon, everything finally comes to a stop and I breathe a sigh of relief while one gloved hand runs through my hair, pushing it away from my face. I take another look at those pictures of Irvine, ignoring the fact that even thinking about them makes me hard. Laguna won’t be looking at my crotch and I’ll be able to ignore the tightness in my pants until after we’re done talking.
It’s strange to call him by any of the words that would identify him as my father, but we both know it’s the truth. Dr. Kadowaki has offered to do the DNA test to prove it, but it's not needed. I’ve seen Raine, both in pictures and in the time Ellone made us go to the past, and I know I resemble her more than him, especially my eyes. My relationship with Laguna is evident mostly because of our mannerisms and the way we both lead reluctantly for the most part but get told that we do a good job. I like having someone to talk to, someone whose opinion of me I don’t have to be scared of. I’ve told him more than I’ve told anyone else here in Garden, and that’s just going to continue today.
He’s already waiting for me outside of my room when I arrive there, one hand on the back of his head while I can hear him humming…he’s obsessed with that song, I swear. I know the reason he loves hearing “Eyes on Me”, but it does get a little annoying to hear it over and over again, even if it is just his humming and not the song itself. We shake hands before I open the door and let him in first. He sits on the couch and I sit next to him, trying to forget who’d been sprawled out on this couch last night, waiting for me to come back. The attempt at forgetting doesn’t work too well.
“Laguna, I’ve got one question to ask you and don’t think too much about it, just answer. Do you think it’s possible for two people that are extremely attracted to each other to have a sexual relationship without any feelings getting involved?”
“I think it depends on the people really. Can’t say for sure without knowing more details, but I’m not expecting you to tell me more than you have already.”
My answer to that comes in the form of walking over to my dresser, pulling out the note I found this morning, and handing it to him. “I think you can guess who left me that this morning and what happened between us last night to make him leave it.”
“You and Irvine? Beyond the fact that I thought he was a total lady’s man, I really wouldn’t expected you two to hook up. Just too different, I guess. If I’m being honest with you, I think that a physical relationship would be possible, as long as you both made the effort to not get your heart involved or else things will get sticky very fast. It’ll be worse if it’s just one person who gets feelings, you know?”
“That much goes without saying. I need to think of some way to let him know that last night wasn’t just a one-time fuck then.” I look around after my thoughts trail off and my eyes finally rest on a camera that I rarely use. “Actually, I think I have an idea.” I’m sure there’s a smirk on my face right now, and his eyes follow my gaze, also resting on the camera.
“I get the picture, if you’ll ignore the pun, Squall.” Laguna walks over to the camera and grabs a new roll of film I had next to it for some unknown reason, inserts it after taking out the old one, and walks back to me. I’m already undressing, no feeling of self-consciousness because he’s seen me naked before, although we were both drunk at the time.
The way I felt him look me over last night just made me want him even more. I’m not really sure why I was that aggressive from the moment he walked up to me, but I know it was definitely worth it in the end. Irvine probably had no idea that it was my first time being in that position and only my second time with another guy. Damn, thinking about it still is making me even harder. Oh well, the better for the pictures I guess.
I’m not really sure of how to pose myself, but Laguna’s got some ideas and he directs me to stand there at first, looking at him while my mind continues to think about every moment of last night and how much these pictures will drive Irvine crazy. Before, he was the one teasing me, but now things are the other way around. After he takes some pictures, I decide to lie down on the bed, sheets stained because I haven’t bothered to change them yet, rest my arms back behind my head, and smile just a little at the camera. Next, I take one hand and wrap it around my erection, as if I were caught in the middle of jacking off, while I hear Laguna taking even more pictures, using up the entire roll I bet.
“That’s the whole roll there. I’ll let you develop them and give them to Irvine. Hey, if it’s not too much of an issue, could you let me have one?”
His tone is half-joking, but also half-serious, so I’m not sure how to reply to that. Doesn’t he understand that although we did get drunk once, I’ve got no desire to repeat that night? “Umm, I don’t think so…he’s probably going to end up getting them all sticky, so he’ll need as many as I can give him.”
His reply is to chuckle before dropping the camera next to me on the bed and head towards the door. “I was just joking anyway, Squall. If you get any other ideas for this little game you seem to be playing with him, feel free to ask me to help you out.”
After quickly redressing, I grab the film and head towards Quistis’s room. She’s pretty into photography and has converted her bathroom to also serve as a darkroom, which I know how to use. A few knocks bring her to the door and I explain that there are some pictures I’d like developed, but they’re not the kind of thing she’d like to see (although she probably would like to see at least one of them). She just waves at the door and comments, “Just clean everything up once you’re done,” as I walk in and begin to develop them.
Laguna’s actually pretty good with taking pictures; I discover when I see them beginning to take shape. In a few of them, it’s fairly obvious that my mind is off somewhere else, and several others were taken when my body moved a bit by itself, making the pose just a little bit different than the one before it. Even I’d like seeing these left by my door.
Feeling him underneath me for that moment before I rolled off was almost relaxing. I could get used to being with him on a regular basis and I’m pretty sure he’ll get the hint that the game is back on. His smooth, warm skin, soft mouth, and hair that I would just love to get my hands in...they’re what makes me continue the game, right?
As a way of thanking her for the use of her darkroom, I leave one of the pictures resting under a chemical pan, as if I’d just casually forgot it. At the least, it’ll be something she never expected to see. She could always give it to Rinoa, whom I know will find some kind of use for it. I’m not really sure if Irvine’s in his room or not so this little delivery will have to be done very quietly. It’s a good thing I didn’t bother putting any of my belts back on.
A cautious look around shows nobody in the hallway and I dart to his door, leave the bag of pictures hanging over the knob, and try to act as if nothing happened while going back to my room. Waiting to see what he does next will be torture, but at least I’ve got last night to remember while I lie on my bed. Sleep will be the furthest thing from my mind though; I plan on using those memories to help me do something else.
A/N: Don’t worry, there is more smut to follow, although there will also be some more plot development, if you can call what’s going on between them to be plot. Please read and review because reviews will inspire me to do more…wait, I’m putting 2 chapters up at once as it is, so you might have to wait a bit before getting more of this fic. :P
