Chapter 1: Daughters of a Legend

“Anya! Anya, wake up!” Amber’s voice called to her friend. Anya grumbled and began to open her eyes. “About time you woke up. Listen, this might sound weird.” Amber said.

“What is it?” Anya asked through a moan as she opened her eyes. “WHA-!? What are you wearing?! You look like a skimpy, female Tidus!” Anya said, wide eyed and in shock. Amber was indeed wearing what looked to be denim ‘overalls’ that were styled like how Tidus wore. A short black shirt covered her chest under the ‘overalls’ straps.

“ME!? You… You look like a slutty songstress Yuna!” Amber snapped back at her friend. Anya’s ‘dress’ appeared to be a long version of Yuna’s songstress from X-2.

The two friends glared daggers at one another for a good five minutes until they turned away from each other, both crossing their arms.

Anya looked at her clothes and noticed how she was dressed and something else. “WHA?!” She instantly groped her own chest. “I’m.. HUGE!” She said, noticing that her body must have matured at least five years. “No, I’ve got a supermodel body!” She corrected herself.

“Me too. But maybe not as old as you are.” Amber said, noticing that both of them now did look like supermodels. “How did this happen?”

Anya opened her mouth to respond but both girls turned around when they heard a small commotion and turned to see Wakka and the Besaid Aurochs walking down onto the beach.

“Are those… Who I think they are?” Anya asked slowly.

“I think… you might be right… if those are the Aurochs.” Amber said. “What the hell happened to us?”

“I don’t know…” Anya said, before she spotted her black backpack nearby. “My backpack came with us?” She asked as she rummaged through it. She found changes of clothes, mainly from X-2. Yuna’s Songstress, Gunner, Lady Luck, and Black Mage costumes were all inside. As well as some of Paine’s outfits, such as her Warrior, Trainer and Gun-Mage costumes that looked like they were fitted for Amber.

“Sweet! Paine’s warrior outfit! Looks about my size anyways.” Amber said with a smirk.

“Put it back.” Anya said as she took out the strategy guide for the game. “The strat guide?” She asked as she pulled out the book and opened it. Her eyes widened. Every page after the descriptions of the characters – was blank. And adding to the confusion, were two new character descriptions.

“What the-?” Amber said, seeing a picture of Anya in her current attire and holding a beautifully crafted staff. “That’s you!”

“I can see that!” Anya snapped back at her friend, trying to remain calm but was having a hard time doing so. “It says here I’m a summoner and a Red Mage. My weapons are staffs and special wands. My defense items are… gloves?”

Amber began to laugh a bit. “Gloves? What about me?” She asked.

“You’re apparently my guardian. And my sister?!” Anya read. “Or, more precisely, my half sister. It says that I’m half Avion, half human. You’re half Avion, half Al Bhed. Your weapons are special bracelets that become katals. And your defense items are… gauntlets.”

“Gauntlets? Ok… but what about Overdrives?” The red-headed guardian asked her ‘sister’.

“Mine is called ‘Overture’. My attacks are ‘White Rhapsody’, which lets me cast random white magic spells; ‘Black Opera’, black magic version of White Rhapsody; ‘Sonata of Summons’, which lets me summon an Aeon to the field and use it’s Overdrive two times in a row, and finally, ‘Melody of Avions’, which is a joint attack with you.” Anya read.

“Sounds like fun. What about mine?” Amber asked.

“Yours is called ‘Dancing Warrior’. It involves ‘Dance of Blades’ which attacks all enemies; ‘Pentagram Cross-slash’ which also attacks all enemies but takes away some of your MP; ‘Steel Tornado’ which attacks one enemy; and ‘Melody of Avions’.” Anya told her.

“Excuse me, ladies?” A male voice said behind them as both girls turned to see Wakka speaking to them. Both girls quickly stood up, as Anya put the strat guide away. “Pardon me, but you ladies look like you’re… not from around here.” He said.

“No, we’re not.” Anya said, folding her hands behind her back. “I am Anya. This is my younger sister, Amber.” She introduced.

“Hiya.” Amber said with a smirk.

“I’m Wakka. Nice to meet you two ladies.” He said, performing the prayer gesture to them. Both girls returned the gesture with ease, having practiced it for many hours at a time to make sure they could perform it perfectly. That’s when Wakka noticed Anya’s staff on the ground. “Um, pardon me. But are you… by any chance… a summoner?” He asked her.

Anya only gave a slight nod. “Yes. I am. We recently arrived from… Laputa.” She said, remembering the name of a place in one of their favorite movies.

“Laputa? You serious?” Wakka asked, his eyes wide.

“Why wouldn’t we be?” Amber asked, placing her hands on her hips.

“Then are you the daughters of Lady Alicetecha?” He asked.

“Lady Alicetecha?” Anya asked, her eyes wide. “You know of her?”

Wakka nodded. “Yes. Ten years ago, High Summoner Lady Alicetecha, often called ‘Alicetecha of the Amethyst Eyes’, helped bring the Calm, along with High Summoner Lord Braska. She was an Avion, and one of the few Avions to ever leave their island paradise of Laputa, and even fewer of Avion summoners. They said that she wanted the rest of Spira to know a paradise like the island she grew up on. Because of that, she left Laputa and became a summoner.” Wakka said.

Both girls felt shocked and surprised. Laputa was a place in a movie they enjoyed, and Alicetecha was a character that Anya had created.

“Now that I notice it, your eyes are violet.” Wakka pointed out to Anya.

“What?!” Anya asked, grabbing for a mirror. Anya’s eyes were a deep blue. There’s no way her eyes should be violet. But looking in the mirror, her eyes were indeed a deep violet purple. And Amber’s eyes were dark green with some blue in them.

“You ok?” Wakka asked, noticing how Anya had been freaking out.

“I’m sorry. I just never really saw how they got to be this deep in color.” Anya lied.

“Blitzball!” Amber said happily, noticing one of the players kick the ball out into the water and headed out after it.

“Amber, I wouldn’t do that!” Anya called out after her, but only watched as Amber swam a ways out before turning to look back at her and waving. “AMBER! DUCK!” Anya called out to her.

Amber raised an eyebrow. “Huh?” She turned slightly but blacked out as the blitzball hit her in the back of the head. Anya winced. “Oooooooooooooh. That HAD to hurt.” She thought out loud. Wakka only nodded slightly.

A few minutes later, with Amber back on the beach and waking up, Anya knelt next to her sister. “You ok?” She asked, her elbow on one knee and her chin in her palm.

Amber growled, rubbing her head where she’d been hit and sat up. “Alright! Who’s the wiseass who kicked me in the head?!” She yelled.

Anya smirked slightly and turned her sister to see Tidus speaking with Wakka, watching as Amber only froze and saw her cheeks turn bright pink. “THAT would be the ‘wiseass’. Your blonde haired hottie.”

“I hate you right now.” Amber mumbled as she blushed.

Anya snickered and stood up, helping Amber to her feet as well.

“Um, hey.” Tidus said, walking over to them. “Sorry about the ball. Didn’t mean to hit you in the head.” He apologized.

“It’s ok. Good kick.” Amber said.

“You know blitzball?” Tidus asked.

“You better believe it! I’m a blitz player myself.” Amber said, holding up a determined and proud fist.

“Neither of you are amateurs. What teams you play for?” Wakka asked, overhearing them.

Tidus smirked. “The Zanarkand Abes.”

Anya and Amber winced as the rest of the Aurochs gasped and whispered among one another.

"What team you say again?" Wakka asked, raising an eyebrow.

Tidus winced. "Uh, I meant... Forget that. I got too, uh...close to Sin and my head's all foggy-like. So I don't know where this place is. Or even where I came from.”

Wakka nodded. "Sin's toxin got to you. But, you're still alive. Praise be to Yevon!” He performed the prayer gesture, as did the others, save for Anya and Amber.

"All right, back to practice!" Wakka told his team. He turned back to Tidus and the two sisters, speaking more to Tidus this time. "I'm Wakka, coach and captain of the Besaid Aurochs, brudda."

“Cool.” Tidus said before his stomach started to growl. Another growl was heard a moment later, coming from Anya, who was blushing bright because of it.

Wakka laughed a bit. "What? You guys hungry? Okay! Back to the village. I'll get you somethin'!”

Amber laughed as well as she, Anya and Tidus followed Wakka towards the edge of the beach leading to the village.

“Almost forgot. Amber, right?” Wakka asked.

Amber nodded. “That’s me.” She said with a grin.

“What team you play for?” Wakka asked her.

“Don’t belong to one, to be perfectly honest. Back home on Laputa, even though we play blitzball, Sis decided to become a summoner before I could join a team.” She told him as the four of them headed to the crossroads that led to a cliff and the way to the village.

Tidus stopped for a moment and thought about something before speaking up, mainly to Wakka. “It's true Zanarkand was destroyed, right? A thousand years ago? So it's just a big pile of rubble now, isn't it?”

Wakka and the girls stopped and turned to face Tidus. Wakka crossed his arms slightly before he spoke.

“Long time ago, there were a whole lot of cities in Spira. Big cities with machina--machines--to run 'em. People played all day and let the machina do the work. And then, well, take a look. Sin came, and destroyed the machina cities. And Zanarkand along with 'em. Yeah, that was about a thousand years ago, just like you said. If you ask me, Sin's our punishment for letting things get out of hand. What gets me, though...”

He paused and looked up at the sky. Anya placed a hand on her stomach, trying to muffle her stomach growls. Wakka continued after a moment.

"Is we gotta suffer, 'cause of what some goofballs did way back when! 'Course, we must always repent for our sins! That's important! It's just that, it's hard to keep at it sometimes, you know?"

Tidus looked down, his arms crossed slightly. Wakka laughed a bit and pulled Tidus into a sort of headlock.

“But you from the Zanarkand Abes--that was a good one! Hey, I'm not saying that team never existed, ya? But you gotta figure a team living in luxury like that'd be pretty soft, eh?”

Amber giggled slightly as Tidus pulled away from Wakka.

“Tidus.” Anya called to him calmly.

Tidus looked at her with pure shock and confusion. He never told any of them his name. “Yeah?” He asked with a raised eyebrow.

Anya motioned for him to come over to where she and Amber were standing, which he did. “Don’t worry about your name. I’m psychic.” Anya told him.

“Ok… That answers that.” Tidus said.

“Listen. We believe you about Zanarkand.” Amber said. She saw him get excited and wanting to ask them questions, but she cut him off before he could speak any more. “But for now, you have to keep telling people that you were in contact with Sin.” Amber warned him.

Tidus nodded. “Gotcha.” He said making a fist. “Oh, um… who are you guys. Er, girls?” He asked.

“Name’s Amber. This is my older sister, Anya.” Amber told him.

“Nice to meet ya.” Anya said before the three of them headed off to catch up with Wakka.
