Chapter One: Childhood
Vaan
ran through the streets of lowtown, pushing people
out of the way, as Rex ran with him, and panicked look on his face.
“What the…fuck did you do this time, Vaan?”
His voice laced with fear, excitement at what just happen. Yes stealing again,
and this time from an Imperial.
Well yes like any
other urchin of Dalmasca, born into poverty, yes class=SpellE>Dalmasca like the imperial city had that oh so defining
line, yet as Dalmascians were free, and treated as
equals, completely the opposite to the Imperial city of Arcadia, were if your
born poor, your stuck, that is if you have useful information, and most are
stuck up fucking-bastards anyway.
“You know….that posh person? Him.” class=SpellE>Vaan said with a grin turning to his brother as they made
for the teleport crystal, which they intended to use, via there newly acquired
teleport stone.
“That’s an Imperial…nice one little bro.” Giving class=SpellE>Vaan a pat on the back, just as the door opened the sun
blazing into the lit wharehouse’s of class=SpellE>Lowtown, thus can victory.
After catching there
breath they slumped to the floor, then eyed the floating multicoloured crystal
shining in front of them, Rex racing to it, his little nine year old legs
running at a hundred miles an hour, where Vaan’s
eight year old ones followed in hot pursuit, coming to a halt behind Rex, and
held out the stone, to him.
“So…what’s it do big bro?” Rex
turned to him a snatch the stone from his hands, holding it up.
“Heard it can take you, anywhere! class=GramE>Anywhere!” Rex said with a smile. While class=SpellE>vaan looked away to the dusty ground to his right.
“What about mum? She said not to leave the city!” Rex looked
at him with a grin on his face.
“Don’t you evesdop on people? They
say you can only use these things if you’ve been to another one…somewhere, and well
we haven’t come across any so…even if touches it, nothing will happen little
bro.” Vaan took the teleport stone from his brother’s
outstretched palm.
“Find…just let’s hold onto each other ok?”
“Ok.” Rex smiled “At
least I hope we won’t be separated” at Vaan.
As class=SpellE>Vaan reached out his hand the stone still clutched between
his fingers, shaking slightly, and as his hand, he saw the area, around the
crystal start to distort, like the heat haze of the desert, but he soon saw it
was different, like shifting shades of orange and blue.
“Rex…do you see that, heat haze behind the crystal?”
“No silly, no just put the stone near the crystal.” class=SpellE>Vaan still looked at the haze asstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'> blackness then two yellow circles
appeared in the blackness, and a voice, like many yet one, distorted yet whole,
gathered but many.
“Go…class=SpellE>glimp tis now thy birthright…thus
undying will show thee light!” With that the blackness formed a body of
interlacing silver, and at that moment Vaan’s eyes
widened. A picture of a empty city beyond gushing blizzards
he saw, his eyes shifted yellow, and at that point the stone touched the
crystal light surrounding him, Rex and the floating being. Rex’s
voice sounding faint.
“I didn’t think this was sup…posed to happen.” His voice
laced his panic yet his hand never left Vaan’s side,
both frozen to the spot.
“I…don’t…know…” His voice faint, dying as people looked at
them, a guard’s yell was faintly heard as the world dissolved around them,
light blinding, and yet the silver being with yellow eyes remained with them as
they vanished from Rambanstre in a shifting light.
Well how did you like
it people?
