Chapter One

It was so cold and he was very wet. His whole body was aching in places he never knew it could. What the hell had happened? He felt like a herd of crazed fans had run him over with their shoes that were designed for chasing down megastars.

He slowly opened his eyes to see a dangerously stormy sky above his head. The clouds were swirls of black and gray. He could hear the rumbling thunder in the near distance and see the swift flashes of slithering lightning streak over his dazed head.

He slowly sat up, seeing that he was among an ancient throng of fallen ruins amidst a gray sea. His eyes widened and he stumbled to his feet, crying out for Tidus. He spun around with crazed eyes. Where was he? Where was Tidus? He looked this way and that, taking a deep breath, fighting to remain as calm as possible. It didn’t work. He fucking went into crazed diva mode.

“Tidus!” He yelled, running across the slippery marble floor to the shallow waters edge. “Where are you? Answer me, Tidus!”

He was all alone among the fallen pillars. It was just him and his frightened voice, echoing amidst the crumbling stone structures that surrounded him.

His heart was racing and tears were streaming down his pale cheeks. What if Tidus was dead? The thought struck him like lightning did the sea in the distance. What if that thing had…NO!

“Tidus!” He screamed as the top of his musical lungs. “Answer me, goddamn it!”

He heard a splash and spun around, ready to ram his fist through someone’s chest and rip out their spinal cord. He would wear it around his waist as a serious fashion statement.

“You’re awake.” Tidus smiled, stepping up out of the misty water. “I think I’ve discovered a place out of this very soon to be bad weather.”

Phoenix gasped and took in a breath, thanking all the gods that were taking the time to give a shit. He raced at the smiling blond, throwing his arms around his neck, squeezing him tight.

“Hey,” Tidus gagged, hugging him back. “I can’t breathe.”

Phoenix shook his head. He was trembling from passing fear and the chill. He slowly let Tidus go, looking into his blue eyes. “I woke up all alone. I thought you were gone. I thought you were dead! Why did you leave? Where the hell are we? What the hell was that thing?”

“I don’t know,” Tidus said, hugging him close, telling him they were going to be fine. “I woke up and we were floating in the water.”

“Is Auron here, too?” He asked, pulling a small piece of seaweed from the blonde’s hair.

Tidus shook his head. “I’ve not seen him.”

Phoenix looked down at his feet. So, the two of them were all alone in this alien place. He was thankful he wasn’t alone. He was even more thankful Tidus was alive. He really would have gone insane had something happened to him.

“So,” he said, checking to make sure that his heels were still wearable. “Where is this place at you’ve found? I can smell rain.”

Tidus pointed. It was the ruin of a tall stone structure in the distance. Phoenix turned to look at it. Why did this place feel so familiar? But, that was impossible. The place looked like no human had set foot here in a thousand years.

“Come on,” Tidus said, taking him by the hand. “The water is cold, but we’ll have to swim.”

Phoenix nodded, following him into the shallow water. The blond hadn’t been joking. The water was freezing. It felt like there were hundreds of icicles poking him.

“You okay?” Tidus asked in concern.

“I’m good,” Phoenix lied, swimming along behind him. “Let’s just get there so we can get warm.”

Tidus grinned. “I’ll race you then.”

That caused Phoenix to laugh. The two of them had just seen their city destroyed by a giant monster and they were now in some strange, new world. They were in the midst of something frightening and tragic and yet Tidus still had his sense of humor.

“How about we keep each other from passing out,” Phoenix asked, trying to swim faster, so they could get out sooner. “And keep each other from drowning in this spooky place, too?”

Tidus nodded. “I’ll never let anything happen to you.”

Phoenix smiled, wanting to kiss him, but this wasn’t the time or the place to do so. “And I’ll never let anything happen to you either.”

“Come on,” Tidus said, telling him to breathe as he swam. “We’re almost there.”

“Liar,” he snorted. “We still have a ways to go.”

Thunder growled above them like something angry and lightning split the sky. The sky was about to open up and howl like an enraged demon. Phoenix could feel it in his bones.

“Over there,” Tidus pointed and Phoenix looked. “We’ll take that bridge now.”

That made Phoenix smile. At least they would be out of the water. He had a creeping feeling that something was watching them from below.

“Oh,” Tidus said, pointing again. “Is that a treasure chest?”

Phoenix gawked. It was a real treasure chest. Where in the hell were they? He quickly followed along behind Tidus in a flap of wet leather.

Tidus knelt down before the chest, and slowly opened it up. Phoenix loomed over him, looking down as well. There was a really sharp sword inside. Well, that could come in handy should they run into anything hostile.

“Sweet,” Tidus said, standing up, giving the sword a few good swings. “I’ve always wanted a real sword.”

“Well,” Phoenix smiled, petting his arm. “Now you can be my knight and lead me to a place where I can get warm.”

Tidus chuckled, taking him by the hand again with his free one. “You’re so needy.”

Phoenix rolled his eyes. “But, I’m cold…and it’s going to storm any minute now.”

“I know,” Tidus said, sounding dead serious again. “Let’s move.”

0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Phoenix dove into the water, smashing a rock against the giant monster’s stupid head. He immediately began to swim towards Tidus, wishing he had a really big gun. Hell, a really big stick would work well, too. He could just poke the ugly bitch to death with it.

Tidus pointed to an opening in the stone wall that was just big enough for the two of them to swim through. Oh, Phoenix was pissed. The two of them had almost made it across the bridge when that stupid ass fish had attacked them. When they got out of this mess, he was going to come back, catch the stupid whore, cook it, smother it in chocolate sauce, and eat it!

The two of them were through the hole just as the giant beast rammed its large head into the large stone wall. The two of them were thrown forward by the water pressure into a room that was flooded.

Tidus flew into a fallen pillar with a grunt and Phoenix landed beside him with a thud. His whole body was silently screaming in agony. He was so damn sore.

He crawled to his knees with a groan, reaching out, shaking Tidus’s arm. “Are you okay?”

Tidus moaned, opening his eyes. “Remind me to start carrying explosives on me wherever we go from now on.”

Phoenix nodded. “At least you still have your sword.”

The blond sat up, taking up his sword, too. “We need to find a dry place to build a fire before we both freeze to death.”

Phoenix got to his feet. “Let’s take those stairs.”

“I bet you wish you had real clothes on now, huh?” Tidus asked from behind him.

Phoenix nodded his head. If he had known this was going to happen, he would have bashed Tidus over the head with a really expensive vase, locked him in one of his many closets, and sailed them both away from Zanarkand.

His pants were just shredded leather now, exposing even more of his white flesh to the elements. He must look paler than death right now. Well, at least he still had his long leather coat on…even though it was wet.

The two of them walked into a large circular room, finding it dry enough to build a fire. They even discovered some flint rocks to start the fire with.

“Now,” Tidus said over the storm that was finally raging outside. “Let’s find something dry to burn.”

Phoenix nodded. “This place is so big. I’m sure we can find something that isn’t soaked.”

Ten minutes later, Tidus had found a bunch of dead flowers, and Phoenix had found a few sticks of wood from a shattered bed frame. The rest had been soaked. He had even been lucky enough to find a dry sheet they could wrap up in together.

“Cold,” Phoenix stuttered as he stripped down to only his black shorts underneath his leather pants. It was so cold now he could see his breath.

Tidus got the fire going and stripped down to his blue boxers. Phoenix couldn’t take his eyes off the blonde’s golden brown flesh. His muscles were hot enough to lick.

“Wow,” Tidus said, turning around, looking him over. “You really do look like a statue carved of bone.”

Phoenix blushed. Was he really that white? Apparently all the magazines thought so and now Tidus did, too.

“Come here,” Tidus said, wrapping the dark red sheet around his self. “And I’ll warm that snowy white flesh.”

Phoenix walked up to him, hanging his clothes up beside his near the crackling fire. He felt those athletically strong arms wrap around his waist from behind, and he was pulled back into a warm, but shivering embrace.

The two of them sat down before the warm fire, wrapped up in the thin blanket. The sensual feel of flesh on flesh was rather intoxicating.

“Let’s get some rest,” Tidus said, lying down on his side. “And we can figure this out later.”

Phoenix nodded, pulling the large sheet around them tighter as Tidus put an arm around him, spooning. He gazed straight ahead, smiling into the warm fire. Well, at least his wish had finally come true. And if this was the cost, he’d maim the granter when he found him or her. The cost could have been more on the gentle side. But this being thrown into a different world with scary ass monsters was too much.

“Warm,” Tidus whispered against his neck in a sweet puff of warm breath. The blond was already snoring softly.

He listened to the crackling fire and began to drift off in his beloved’s warm embrace. He didn’t even mind the hardness pressing against his left cheek. Someday soon he would want that hardness between both cheeks. He softly hummed himself to sleep not knowing his voice also lulled a dangerous beast off to dreamland as well. His magical voice had saved them from a very nasty ordeal.

000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

There were glistening and shimmering lights dancing all around him in a gorgeous field of pink blossoms and falling blue waters. He could hear the small whispers from the spiraling, dazzling lights.

His silky red locks fluttered around his bone white face in a warm, scented breeze. The lights above his head were so bright and he could hear a choir of divine voices. They were singing in such perfect melody and he flawlessly blended his own voice right in with them.

The dazzling lights began to dance around his lithe form in an array of colors. The voices along with his own rose and fell like the falling of cerulean blue waters. It wasn’t long until it was almost as if his voice was leading the others because it was so beautiful.

“Phoenix,” a soft voice called out to him from beyond the spinning lights that were gently blinding him. He continued to sing because the song was so haunting and filled with such sorrow.

“You do not belong in this place,” the voice whispered over the songs mesmerizing enchantment. “The dead desire you and they will take you…”

He opened his brilliant green eyes and could see that he was surrounded on all sides by a thousand-thousand people. They were all looking upon him with such hungry and sad eyes. There were men, women, and so many children.

Tears fell from his eyes and he put a trembling hand to his mouth. The voices were still singing the haunting melody. He could feel their sorrow and their pain tore into him like a million razor sharp talons. He fell to his knees, reaching out to pull a sobbing child into his arms.

“Help us,” the little boy sobbed and his tears ran crimson down his pale cheeks. “We’re so alone and so afraid.”

Phoenix couldn’t breathe. He was horrified and consumed with grief. What could cause such terrible suffering? He opened his mouth and a scream clawed its way out like a monstrous beast breaking the smooth surface of a calm ocean.

His voice rolled over the dead, causing their human forms to explode into soaring and shimmering lights. He pulled at his hair because he couldn’t stop screaming in horror. He felt like his lungs were smoking and would soon burst into flames. The pain! There was simply too much pain!
