Chapter One

Will you hold me sacred?
Will you hold me tight?
Can you colorize my life I’m so sick of black and white!
Can you make it all a little less old?

--Meatloaf

Kail was silent as his guard flew the small ship with relative ease. His ivory tower had fallen and he could have cared less. He needed to get to Squall and tell Uncle Cid what had been happening. He just hoped the old man would listen to him this time instead of sending him away.

He leaned back in his seat, looking over at his seven foot guard. The man had taken off his helmet, revealing a head of spiky white hair. He looked to be just a little older than him and really tan. He was even handsome at that, too.

Why had this giant of a man stuck by him when all others had fled? Had he not ruled over them all with fear and a constant threat of killing them slowly? He had killed so very many with these pale hands of coldest beauty. They would forever be stained with crimson layers of invisible blood.

“What is your name, solider?” He asked him, sitting up straight in his leather seat.

The guard looked over at him and Kail could see his eyes. They were violet with speckles of silver in them.

“My name is Jenx, my Lord,” he told him, bowing his head with reverence. “First Class rank as well.”

Kail nodded his head. Had he never seen this bull of a man before? How could he have missed noticing him? He was a powerfully built giant. Well, he had been under the insane talon of a crazed sorceress who was hell-bent on silencing all of creation for many a moon.

“Tell me,” he said, having his horned headdress reveal his face, so he could breathe more freely. “Why have you stuck by my side, Jenx?”

The solider turned his face away from him. He looked like he had just asked him to fall upon a sacrificial blade. Why did he have that look on his face for?

“Well, soldier?” He asked, playing with his silver talons. He didn’t have time or the patience to beat around the thorny bush.

“I.” Jenx said, keeping the ship on a steady course. “It is my duty, Lord.”

Kail rolled his eyes. That was such a lie. He just knew it was. The guard was not being honest with him at all.

“Jenx,” he warned with a venomous threat in his silky voice. “I do not appreciate being lied to, especially to my face.”

He watched Jenx push in a blue button with a gloved finger, putting the vessel on auto-pilot. The muscular stallion turned in his leather chair, bowing his head to him once more.

“Forgive me my insolence, Lord,” Jenx said. “But, it is my sworn duty to protect you with my life…because…”

Kail cocked his head to the side. Was he trembling? His shoulders were so very broad.

“Because?” He asked, feeling his chest tighten for some reason. He was so confused. He didn’t like feeling confusion.

Jenx slowly lifted up his head and he looked so very sad. There was such a deep depression in his amethyst eyes. It was almost like a glossy darkness was filling them with a sense of doom.

Kail leaned slightly back. He didn’t like the look in his eyes. They were so sad. They reminded him of a dog that was expecting to be kicked and thrown out of the house. He had never been allowed to have a dog.

“Because,” Jenx said, bowing his head as low as it looked like he could possibly get it. “I love you, my Lord.”

Kail was struck speechless. No, he was struck dumb. He didn’t know what the hell to say to that. How many of his guards had fallen in love with him? How many of them had died to serve him? Now he wished he had never asked. This guy was like a puppy. How many times had he been kicked? And yet, he still came back?

That was when the ship hit some sudden turbulence and the solider quickly turned back to the controls, taking over the ship again.

“Thank you for protecting me and sticking by my side, Jenx,” he told him, rising to his booted feet. He put his silver talons on a broad, powerful shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze. “I need to rest now.”

Jenx nodded. “Yes, my Lord.”

The giant’s voice was steady and strong and yet it sounded so very broken from within.

He slowly walked from the control room. The metal door slid open, revealing a small room with a bed.

He turned back, seeing Jenx’s shoulders sag just as the door slid shut before his green eyes. He fell back on the bed in a hiss of flowing silk. He felt bad. There was no way he could ever return Jenx’s feelings. His heart belonged to another.

He curled up on his side, wishing that Squall was beside him, holding him in his arms. He missed him so very much. Why did the world have to be such a hard place to love in?

“Squall,” he whispered, holding up his hand. “Dream of me…won’t you…my only love…my precious love…”

He watched how his silver talons glistened like sharp blades in the cold light. He could no longer feel the link between him and the sorceress from the future. It was like it had never been there at all.

He closed his eyes and his hand fell right along with him into a very deep sleep. It was the kind of sleep he had not had in a long time.

He was with Squall on the beach. The two of them were laughing and playing in the pretty pink sand. Squall had water running through both of his hands and the two of them took off running towards the lighthouse in the distance. It was their secret place. It was where they had shared their first kiss. He could still feel those gentle lips on his own and that powerful tongue claiming him.

Squall, please. Don’t forget me. Don’t forget my loving touch or the sweet smell of my soft skin. Please. Don’t forget my love or the love you hold sacred for me.

Please! Don’t take me from his heart! Please! DON’T!

He wept on a distant, desolate shore, screaming in agony. The waves swelled and crashed as the dark storm clouds swirled, billowing overhead. He could hear the voice of his thunderous pain and felt the heat from his flashing rage.

He threw his head back, screaming like a heartbroken siren upon his jagged rocks. The wind howled all around his naked form as the elements raged.

SQUALL!
