#2 Love In The Night

It was dangerous after dark with all kinds of monsters lingering about, albeit Prompto still watched Noctis from afar. He kept an eye on the lad, especially since Noctis decided to sit by a lake further away from the camp. The dark-haired man held a rod in hand, he appeared to be fishing. The only source of light was the white moonlight shining down on him and his black clothes, giving the lad as well as the lake a vibrant glow.

"Why does it have to be this way?" Prompto questioned, swallowing his own spit nervously. "Miles away from the city. Noctis has lost something, I can tell. I should probably give him some company..."

Deciding to stand up, Prompto leapt down from the rock he was sitting on. He drew closer toward Noctis just sitting by the lake, Prompto inhaled a deep breath in the process. He observed that slick black hair with bangs that fell over Noctis' forehead, as well as that miserable expression painted on the lad's face. Prompto knew Noctis was upset, even if he could only see the side of his face at the moment.

"Whatcha doing, buddy?"

Glancing up at the familiar face, Noctis immediately patted the grass beside him.

"Come and sit with me, Prompto. I'm just trying to catch a fish for my new furry friend," he snickered with a small smirk showing on his features.

"New furry friend?"

"This cat beside me," stated Noctis as he looked down to his left side. "This fella won't leave my side, honestly. Ever since I found him here, he's been brushing up against me...showing a lot of affection."

Curiously, the blonde-haired male flicked a glance over Noctis' lap and towards a small cat. Prompto looked at this furry friend with awe, cocking his head to one side lightly as he gazed at this cute animal resting against his thigh. This cat had white fur with streaks of black running through the coat.

"Aww, Noct! What the hell? This is so sweet," cackled Prompto with a beam widening from ear-to-ear. He then averted his gaze back to Noctis' face, soon changing the subject. "You okay, though?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just gotta think positive, you know?"

"Yeah."

Reeling in a large trout, Noctis caught this fish by the tail with one hand. It wasn't long until he presented this trout to the cat beside him, just laying it on the grass.

"W-whoa!"

Surprised, this cat bit into the fresh catch and soon darted off into the wilderness in the near distance. Noctis laughed at the sight, shaking his head in the process.

"At least this guy isn't picky with what he eats," noted Noctis. "Good boy, I think."

"Yeah, that's for sure. Look at him go!"

"Well," he started as he turned to face Prompto. "We should head back to the camp before any monsters find us here," he mentioned sarcastically.

Extending out a hand, Prompto gave Noctis a nod of the head. "You should probably hold my hand on the way, you know, just to keep safe. I don't want the prince disappearing on me now."

Raising a curious black eyebrow at that cheeky remark, Noctis scoffed at the hand being offered to him.

"Yeah, I guess so, chocobo butt."

"Hey, what did you just call me?!"

"Oh, nothing," he lied. Noctis grabbed Prompto's hand in a heartbeat. "Let's go, shall we?"

"Mhm. Gladio and Ignis are asleep, so we should tread carefully and not wake them up," informed the blonde.

With his free hand, Noctis ruffled Prompto's messy blonde locks. They both howled with laughter, accidentally being too loud in the process, though. Prompto averted his gaze away from Noctis, squealing heavily in a high-pitched voice. He covered his mouth with his free hand, struggling to keep quiet.

"Is that a blush I see?" Noctis teased.

"Oh, come on!"

"I wonder if that cat will follow us to the tent," he mused.
