Author's Notes
~Questions~
-Why is Sephiroth gay?
The subject of Sephiroth’s sexuality is a touchy one. Not only was he abused as a child, he was also not supposed to feel anything for anyone. It could be said that it isn’t actually known if he is bisexual, straight, or gay. However, I did think, for whatever reason, that he and Cloud would make a good match for this story.
Sometimes I feel it necessary to use whatever characters are available in a games storyline to create relationships. For example, in my other story, I never actually believed that Sora and Riku could be gay before I made it. However, their personalities compliment each other better than most characters in that story, so I made them a couple despite the fact that they were both male.
-Why isn’t the dialog exact?
Cloud’s memories of the incidents that occurred in the game can’t exactly be called reliable. Also, dialog was added because I thought the dialog in the game lacked emotion and was extremely condensed.
-Why stop at that point of the story? Why didn’t you continue to show Sephiroth’s though process for the rest of the story as it might have been in the game?
There was no Sephiroth after that point in the game. Every time you saw Sephiroth after he fell into the Lifestream, including the scene where Aeris is killed, it wasn’t the real Sephiroth. It was all an illusion by Jenova. The real Sephiroth’s body was reforming in the Northern Crater.
-How is it possible that certain characters reappear for your Tainted Eyes story?
After the events of this story, Zack was found by soldiers the same way he was in the game, but the difference is that those soldiers knew and respected him, so he wasn’t shot down with Cloud. Instead, he was saved and returned to ShinRa for questioning. Sometime soon after, he and a group of other soldiers were ambushed by Livion’s group.
~Tidbits~
Chapter I
*Someone pointed out that Vincent’s eyes were not originally red when he was a Turk. She’s absolutely right, but it gave his presence more power, and it’s something he’s very known for.
Chapter III
*General Kinneas’ name comes from FFVIII’s Irvine Kinneas. It was intended to show how good General Kinneas was with a gun, since that was Irvine’s specialty. However, he ended up getting a lot less time in the story than originally intended. Fortunately, the real FFVIII Kinneas has a much better attitude, even if he does chase girls. ^_^;
Chapter IV
*The way the president dies at his desk in FFVII is fitting according to this story. If you remember, he takes dirty pictures of little Sephy on top of a desk.
*Garamonde-sensei’s name comes from an earlier FF game. FFV, if I remember correctly.
Chapter V
*Hojo’s line about magic not existing is what Sephiroth would have been referring to in FFVII.
Chapter IX
*The game doesn’t give his exact age, but even in the actual FFVII word, Sephy would have entered the Wutai War somewhere in his early to mid teens.
*In the game, Yuffie challenges people who could turn into monsters in order to prove herself, which is why it’s implied that it’s a secret of Wutai.
Chapter X
*The summoning dragon the woman used is Leviathan, and it is found in this same area in the game.
*It is interesting to note that in the game, Sephiroth carries the Masamune, the sword to protect. And Cloud has the option to carry the Murasame, the sword to kill.
*Sephy was demanding that Godo, Yuffie’s father, surrender.
*In Kingdom Hearts, it’s implied that Sephiroth is magic immune when in his normal form, which is why the magic spells had little to no effect.
*Sephy says, “Time to die,” which is another reference to Kingdom Hearts. It’s one of two phrases he uses when creating the wall of fire, just as he did in this chapter.
*The final attack he uses in this chapter was the Heartless Angel/Sin Harvest attack that instantly cuts down all magic and health points. This is found in both FFVII and Kingdom Hearts.
Chapter XI
*Surprisingly, Sephiroth doesn’t know how to handle self-injurers. That’s because if you look back, you’ll notice that Sephiroth never resorted to it.
Chapter XII
*Zack and Cloud went through the same violation at the hands of Jenova/Sephiroth. Cloud, unlike Zack, invited the pain and humiliation.
Chapter XIII
*According to the game, Tseng might have released Aeris from the ShinRa before.
*The song Sephiroth sings here is the same one he sings in my KH story.
*This Turk woman, Raven, was supposed to be one of Sephy’s torturers when they were trying to banish all desire from him.
Chapter XIV
*Cloud never actually comes into contact with Aeris in this story, which would explain why he doesn’t know her in the game.
*In the game, Aeris mentions that someone told her she could have been in SOLDIER. In this story, it was Sephiroth who told her that.
Chapter XV
*Ki Hino is from my KH story, Tainted Eyes, which is supposed to take place sometime after this story. His real name is Firesoul, and he’s one of Livion’s companions. A little background: they can manipulate people’s desires and emotions and use them against people. So yes, Ki did survive the fall, and he’s the reason Livion became obsessed with Sephiroth. He makes an appearance in this story to make all my stories flow in some way or another. If you couldn’t handle the violence and rape in this story, DO NOT READ THE KH STORY.
Chapter XVI
*Ki constantly tries to use the fact that Cloud lied about his age as blackmail. However, both Sephiroth and Zack would have been too young to be in SOLDIER as well. I forgot to imply that the rules had changed since they entered.
*Cloud is showing the signs of the “clone” treatment. In FFVII, “clones” where not actually clones of Sephiroth. They were members of SOLDIER who had the same mako enhancement treatments and Jenova cell implants that Sephiroth had. The difference is that Sephiroth had his in the womb. ShinRa did this to SOLDIER members in attempts to create other soldiers as powerful as Sephiroth. Eventually, many of the members who went through with the treatments became the black-clad puppets for Jenova to form Sephiroth’s image onto. Others simply grew obsessed with black clothes and felt the call of the Reunion only slightly. And then a few others, like Zack, felt no affects.
Chapter XVII
*In the actual game, it’s assumed that Zack’s conversations with Cloud about Sephiroth influence Cloud’s mind when he starts to believe he is actually Zack. One such conversation happens in this chapter when Zack is on the phone with his parents.
*The thing that was being injected into the soldiers that was supposed to track their progress was actually Jenova cells.
*Jenova is starting her Reunion, so Cloud, who was recently injected with her cells and who is weak to the effect, feels the call. That explains his odd behavior near the end up the chapter.
The rest is pretty much explained in the chapter or in the game. ^_~

A clawed hand pushed the coffin open and crimson eyes scanned the room. Vincent slowly rose from his resting place.
“Sephiroth…” he whispered softly.
He stepped out of the coffin, disconnecting himself from the filters and needles and oxygen. He wouldn’t be needing it anymore. His body was healing and all he needed to do now was exercise and take care of himself. Sephiroth had given him another chance, and there were things in his past that needed to be put to rest.
He opened the door and scanned the cave, his instincts still that of a Turk. He thought he might find Sephiroth in the lab, so he opened the metal door slowly. What he found inside was utter chaos. Perhaps it was because Sephiroth didn’t care about keeping order in Hojo’s lab, but something still rubbed him the wrong way.
He quickly ran through the cave and up the spiral staircase. He dashed through the mansion and threw open the front door.
The scent of ashes and blood….
He watched with wide red eyes as ashes rained down on Nibelhiem. He looked from the distance, seeing the charred marks left on some of the stone walls and buildings. Those were created by fireballs. It was a materia-based attack.
And then something whispered to him. Something flowing through him. Something deep inside of him. It was Jenova, but it was also something else now. Something more confused. Something more shattered.
…Something more familiar.
Vincent shut the door to the mansion and made his way back to his coffin. He would only sleep there, though. He would train in the mansion, and he would sleep in that damned coffin. And he would think of all of the sins that he had committed and all of the sins he had witnessed. And for everything… for all the pain and suffering, for his life and for Lucrecias… and for Sephiroth… Hojo would die.
