Chp 3

Chapter 3

The two boys were told the location. It was near the ruins of the ancient city of the Cetra. They heard the forest near there got more wild and mysterious after the incident. So, Zackery wasn’t too surprised the location would be a place few cared to go. They start out the same evening and board another ship under some false names. Since Madnol is known for disappearing, he knew his brother wouldn’t miss him too much.

They travel across the ocean northwest to New Midgar. Some ocean monsters attacked the vessel, but they are repelled with the help of Zackery and Madnol. New Midgar rested south of Old Midgar, in the center of the city sat Tylunar headquarters. The ports and city boarder was not so guarded. The heavy security rested further within the city itself.

Both of them stick to the outskirts and rest that night in a cheap motel. By morning, they continue along the outskirts till they reach the north side of New Midgar. From there they travel west, past the mountains. Zackery and Madnol stop by Old Midgar. The abandoned city was still covered with plants.

Zackery, “Lets come back here later and explore the city.”

MadnoHellHell, why not. It has got to be more amusing than digging up old corpses.”

They continue going northeast and then eastward. They eventually reach the town of Kalm. In Kalm, they rent a boat to travel to reach Bone Village.

The old village was a dig site where they once searched for artifacts and old bones. When Tylunar took over, they chased the people away and did their own research. Tylunar did too much damage and many of the original researchers left to go to other other sites. The two friends camp here for the rest of the day. They both got kicks out of pretending to be archeologist. Madnol finds an old pot and Zackery finds a strange potion. He only knows it was some sort of healing potion. They both agree the potion will be more usefully.

The next day they enter the old woods. Yuffie once said the woods didn’t always have such a heavy air about them. The woods changed around the time of Cloud’s death. Yuffie believes the soul of Aeris still watches over the woods and ancient city. Zackery and Madnol carefully walk through the woods, at times climbing over fallen trees or old warped paths.

At last they reach Cloud’s resting place. There they begin digging into the ground. Three hours later, their shovels hit something hard. They carefully uncover the black coffin. It is still smooth and in good condition. With some effort, they drag it out of the ground.

Madnol, “Damn, this thing is heavy.”

Zackery, “Get the crowbar.”

Madnol, “You’re going to open it?”

Zackery, “Yuffie’s orders were to make sure his body was still there.”

Madnol, “Come on, Zackery . . . . . She is a crazy old bitch!”

Zackery, “Well, we have to do it.”

Madnol hands Zackery the crowbar and he pries the coffin open. Inside is a man with blond hair that spiked slightly. He looked in his late twenties. His skin has a purple tint to it, otherwise he is in perfect condition and untouched by time.

Madnol, “This is freaky, dude.”

Voice behind them, “Then, I will be more than happy to handle this for you two boys.”

They turn to see a man in a suit. He has short bluish, black hair. With him are these creatures. The beasts have humanoid appearances with long arms, legs, nasty claws, and very ugly faces.

Zackery, sourly, “A Turk.”

Man, “The name is Able. I do suggest you run before I am forced to kill you both.”

Madnol, “I have this nasty habit of not taking advice.”

Zackery pulls his sword out and Madnol pulls his weapons out. Two bronze spheres hover in the air above Madnol’s hand. He is able to cast spells and slam them into his opponents heads. Able orders the beast to attack them. Zackery attacks one beast and Madnol deals with the other one. After some effort, they kill their foes. Then they notice Able has Cloud’s body slung over his shoulder.

Madnol, “That is gross. He actually touched it!” Makes further sounds of disgust.

Able raises his hand, “I would love to chat, but my job here is done.”

Four more of the same beasts come into view. Able makes a hasty retreat. They are left with the monsters. Chancey comes running over to them.

Chancey, “Hey, I came here to lend you boys a hand.”

Zackery, “Chancey?”

Madnol, “I don’t care who she is. Get your pretty ass over here and fight.”

With Chancey helping them, they dispose of the beasts quickly.

Zackery, “Damn, he got away!”

Madnol, “Yeeccck! I can’t believe he touched it.”

Zackery then points his sword at the girl, “Why are you here?”

Chancey, “I was walking through the woods and heard you two fighting.”

Zackery, “Stop lying to me. I know you being here isn’t by chance, Chancey.”

Chancey, “Okay, I was sent by someone important.”

Zackery, “Who sent you?”

Chancey, “Vincent Valentine. He knew Yuffie would send someone, but not their identity. My job was to guard the site but I was attacked by something and got drawn away. Sorry I couldn’t get here fast enough.”

Zackery puts his weapon away, “I will believe you for now.”

Madnol, “Now the Turks have the body. . . What now?”

Zackery, “We go after it.”

Madnol, “Oh, god! I knew you would say that.”

They, of course, are unable to catch up to the Turk. The three do reach the beach in time to see the Turk’s boat speed off into the south.

Zackery, “Even if we got on our boat now, we don’t have the speed to catch him.”

Chancey, “So, you’re going to give up?”

Zackery, “No, but I am not going to be unrealistic about the odds.”

Madnol, “Odds? Who cares about the odds! I say we go after that damn Turk.”

Chancey, “Yeah! As long as there is a chance, we might as well try.”

They hurry to their boat and give chase. The Turks boat is much faster and gains in distance. Zackery already knows where the boat is headed, Tylunar headquarters.
By nightfall they reach New Midgar.
