Look At Those Stars
Disclaimer: I do NOT own ANY Final Fantasy VIII characters, though I wished.
Rated: R/for now
!WARNINGS! A classic Mary-Sue fic! If you don't like girls mysteriously finding their way in the world of Final Fantasy VIII then, I suggest you leave as quickly as possible.
YOU: I usually don't post if I don't get Feed Back. It just proves that this fiction wasn't worthy enough to be put on here. So, if you like it, be sure to post a review, even if it is to tell me to UPDATE. I like being pushed.
Summary: Seventeen year old Lisa Cardaci, spends her birthday in Japan to meet with Executive Producer, Hironobu Sakaguchi. What does that have to do with her winding up outside of Balamb a week before all conflicts?
If it makes you less sad, I will die by your hand.
I hope you find out what you want.
I already know what I am.
And if it makes you less sad, we'll start talking again.
And you can tell me how vile I already know that I am.
I'll grow old and start acting my age.
I'll be a brand new day in a life that you hate.
A crown of gold.
A heart that's harder than stone.
And it hurts a whole lot, but it's missed when it's gone.
Call me a safe bet, I'm betting I'm not.
I'm glad that you can forgive.
I'm only hoping as time goes, you can forget.
Chapter Three: Look At Those Stars
"They found her by the gate, passed out. A Caterchipillar shocked her. There's also a slowly healing wound behind her neck. It looks like it was cured before, but there's something in her body that rejects the spell and somehow slows down it's process. Another thing I've noticed is her Health is irregularly high, even without any GF functions. Whoever she is, she's powerful."
"She's a threat to Balamb Garden."
"Don't even assume that of her. The young girl was seeking help, not trying to dismantle our guards. As an instructor, try to think outside of the box, Quistis."
"Nnh," I groan, feeling closed in by something tight. I kicked at it in panic, coming to the realization that it was just sheets.
I squint an eye open, not finding any alarming lights that would irritate me, then took a look around the room. I'm definitely in the Infirmary. I sit up, noticing the two women gawking at me. Quistis and Kadowaki. I suddenly want to get up and run somewhere, but I remained still.
"You're up, finally," clapped Kadowaki. "There's nothing I can't cure."
The look I got from Quistis was enough to freeze over hell. Now, as much as I want this experience to be a good one, that look is making it very difficult. 'I'm Quistis, the cold-hearted bitch ex-instructor. Oh, Squall! Here, let me call you out of your celebration time to pour all of my emotions on you!'. Give me a break.
"We've been waiting for you to stir," Quistis said, as she crosses her hands behind her back in that superior way, like she was thirty or something. I never did take her seriously.
"I think you should eat some of these," Kadowaki said, while handing me a few hot dogs and water. "You've been knocked out for quite some time now."
I nibbled at the meat, imagining Zell in the cafeteria right now, scoffing down at least ten of these in one breath. "Thank you, Dr. Kadowaki."
"You know that I'm a doctor?"
Oh, Hyne. Come on, Lisa. Get it together!
"It's hard to get passed the jacket," I laughed, before taking another bite into the hot dog.
"Oh, dear yes. Forgive me, I'm not thinking properly today," she smiled. It's nice not see some distorted graphic of her. Kadowaki looked like a very vibrant and genuinely happy. To be honest, she reminds me of everything that's calm.
"What's your name?"
I looked up at Quistis, catching a glimpse at the now, moody blond. "My name's Lisa."
"Where do you sleep?"
I shrugged it off, not really having an answer. How do I tell her, 'from earth' or 'Japan'? I guess the damsel approach will have to do. "Wherever I drop."
The doctor took in a breath, "You poor dear, that's terrible!"
Rolling her eyes at me, Quistis walked a few steps closer. "Why are you here?"
"I'm a Gift Teller."
"Gift Teller..." Quistis's voice was sheathed in warning, letting me know that she was more then suspicious of me, but accusing me. My eyes darted to her hand that was moving to her hip, to draw out the offending whip. I know what she can do and I didn't need another trip to heaven.
"What? No! I can see happenings, I don't know how to use magic, to tell you the truth I don't even think I can. Call it a defect!" I rushed out, getting ready to put up my hands to block whatever blow she's about to make.
"Quistis, out of my office."
I could feel her eyes on me, but I didn't look up at her. Quistis walked out and slammed the door behind her, emphasizing how pissed off she is. I can understand why she's mad at me. First, I come out of no where. Wait, that's about it. I could already tell that it's going to be an agonizingly long day.
"Don't mind Quistis, she's been very down lately, and she means no harm," Kadowaki assured, while placing my bag closer to me. "Things at work and such."
"I know, it's sad that her days of instructor ended so quickly. It was only a year-" I cut off my words, wanting to slap myself for being so revealing. Yeah, Lisa. Real smart, why don't you just give her an aneurysm next? "I mean...."
"Child, we planned to dismiss her of her duties a little over a month ago. You truly are a Gift Teller, aren't you?" she asked with a hint of incredulous in her voice.
Great, this means that the Sorceress never came yet. They should be expiring Quistis soon, right? I mean, it's been planned. Christ, I'm going to have to explain a lot.
"The one and only."
"Headmaster Cid should be here soon. He wanted a full report on you, but I can't really make a full analysis. You're very hard to determine," she said, wearily, like she was in some daze, each time she looked at me. "In any case, I'm sure he'll accept your services."
"What services?" asked the pleasantly, cheery voice.
I turned, slightly to look at the casually dressed man. He didn't look as old as they made him in the game, I bet he'd be flattered to hear that. I always thought that he was awesome.
"Sir," I greeted, while shaking his hand. "I'm Lisa. I was hoping that you'd agree to having me around. Gift Tellers are quite handy."
He raised an eyebrow and smiles something genuine. "A Gift Teller?"
"The future, Headmaster, will be yours, if you wish it." I was surprised in the way I said it. Boy, I was into the character. I've watched Labyrinth too many times in the past few months. The next thing you know, Cid's going to tell me not to 'defy him'.
He considered this for a moment, tilting his head. "I'll be sending some SeeD troops to Dollet for-"
"The SeeD field exam."
"That's correct," he mused. "You know, Quistis Trepe has been..."
That's how far he got, then I completely stopped listening. I'll be damned if I'm following Quistis like some lap-dog. Granted, I'd be with the group I wanted, but her and I would be rumbling by the end of the day. I didn't want my obligations to revolve and consist of Quistis.
"My third eye can only concentrate on one person at a time and Miss Trepe's future isn't the one that needs guidance."
Cid and Kadowaki thought things over, secretly knowing what the other's thinking. That's when Cid saw it, my necklace. Kadowaki looked at it also, then back to Cid. The moment was long and it made me feel so uncomfortable, with their eyes on my necklace, then at each other.
"You know," he said, thoughtfully. "I favor my Gunblade wielder, more then any young cadet in this school. It's new to the Garden and he looks promising enough."
Now, this Gunblade wielder... he wouldn't be about 5'8 and carry around a weapon he likes to pet named, 'Lionheart', would it? I smirked, inwardly, while getting up from the bed. I won't lie, I did want this. A chance alone with my favorite hero, not to mention one as good looking as he is.
!Lisa! this is the warning system in your head. Wrong Move. I repeat !Lisa! this is your warning system.
"Show me to Leonhart and I'll play Guardian Angel," I said, while slinging my bag over my shoulder.
"I'll get someone to bring that up to your Dorm room. Are you okay with that?"
I looked up at Kadowaki, smiling at the solution. "It's perfect. Thank you."
"Squall should be in the Training Center. If you want I'll talk to him?"
Leave it to the Headmaster to take care of everything. I kind of felt bad for him through out the whole game. He barely had time to make decisions for himself, why with those goons in dresses who always stand above him. I shook my head, 'no'. "You do enough around here. I might as well get use to the Garden."
Before I could leave, Kadowaki places her hand on my shoulder. "Are you sure your okay? I don't want you walking a few steps, then pass out."
"I'll be fine."
"I'd hope so," Cid smiled. "This is exciting. Oh, I suppose you want some Gil?"
"No money, thanks. Maybe, if you replace the pay with food and shelter-"
"Deal."
Despite the sirens going off in my head, I proceeded to walk out of the Infirmary. Yes, it's going to be hard to get the Ice Princess to play, but I've been known to get people to talk. Maybe he'll even like the idea of this Guardian Angel gig? Then again, he could be a spoiled brat about it, kick, and scream for me to go away. I know that if there was a Gift Teller following me around, I'd never want to know the future. Ever.
And I don't think he's going to be too crazy about his future.
