Chapter 3
Quistis sat for a second longer, "Well that was...."
Quistis woke with a start, "that was one weird dream!" Maybe it was time to cut back or even better cut out the alcohol. She looked at the bottles lying round her room and finally admitted that she had a problem.
She had been relying on alcohol too much lately to get her through her problems. She thought back on her dream, okay, Seifer might not actually have been real but his message probably was. It was probably her body's way of telling her to cut down.
She smiled then at the idea of Seifer being an Angel - not that she doubted it. During the ten years after Ultimecia, he had worked his butt off to make up to everyone for his behaviour. he probably would still have been if not for that bomb. She sighed. She missed him so much. Everyday her heart urged her to end it. At least that way, she would be able to see him again.
The dream might have been strange, but at least she had got to see him, however briefly. She closed her eyes and felt a tear slide down her cheek. "Right, enough self-pity for the day, Trepe. You have a class to teach. Get up and washed and get to it!"
She pushed herself up off the bed and forced herself to take a shower. Ten minutes later she was standing before her class and the dream was forgotten.
That night, for the first time in months, she went to bed without alcohol so much as passing her lips. It was a strange sensation! It was almost enough to make her rush to the other side of the room and grab a bottle and swallow half of it in one go - almost!
She lay for a while and thought over her life. She thought of her friends and how they seemed evermore distant since Seifer was taken from her. Not that she could blame them - after all, someone who is drunk can be tolerated when everyone around you is also drunk. When it's just one person, and they're crying and generally feeling sorry for themselves, it's not fun!
She knew that she had only herself to blame. Hell, she could understand also why the Trepies had disbanded. They had loved her because she was inspirational. She had been an instructor from an early age, perfect results in every test she had ever sat, Saviour of the World and finally, the person who managed to help Seifer to turn it all around when he returned to Garden. Yeah, thinking like that, it was understandable.
However, after the death of Seifer, it all fell apart. How could she maintain that perfection when half of her soul had been ripped from this earth? So she gave up trying, gave up doing anything but surviving the crap that life threw at her on a daily basis. She found the only thing that helped her to do that was alcohol.
Maybe it wasn't the only way though? She WAS only 29 after all, surely this wasn't all that life had to offer her? Slowly she drifted off to sleep.
