Chapter Two

Emerald stars blazed open and the shaking suddenly stopped. He blinked a few times as Tidus said his name over and over. He looked up to see that the blond was on top of him, looking down at him in heavenly azure concern.

“Are you okay?” Tidus asked, gently caressing a smooth porcelain cheek.

Phoenix nodded, finding he was enjoying all that golden-bronze weight pressing down on him. It made him feel safe and secure.

“Yeah,” he whispered, looking at him with startling green eyes. He felt like he had been running a marathon or something.

Tidus snorted.

“What?” He asked, feeling himself blush like a pink rose.

“Your eye makeup,” Tidus smiled, tracing a tan finger down his left cheek, showing him the kohl on it.

Phoenix rolled his eyes. “And here they told me it was waterproof.”

That caused his mind to wonder off again. Were his friends back home all right? He didn’t know.

Tidus laughed, giving him a white grin. Blue eyes widened just a little when ivory white hands gently caressed his rock hard, sculpted chest.

Phoenix lifted his head up, seeing that their warm fire was almost dead. He could still hear the raging storm outside. It sounded really violent out there, too. Was it possible for this place to be flooded? They were surrounded by a sea. The last thing he wanted was for a giant wave to smack the place.

“Did you mean it?” Phoenix asked, thinking back to how Tidus had yelled at Auron before they found themselves here by some frightening means.

Tidus cocked his head to the side, causing his hair to shimmer in the dying firelight. “What?”

Phoenix traced his pale finger along that strong collarbone. He wanted to lick the spot where he saw the pulse beating in the sexy blonde’s neck. “Do you love me?”

He watched how those blue eyes darkened with such a strong emotion and he shivered when those pink lips got closer. His body stilled when those lips pressed down against his own and they were just as soft as he dreamed them to be. His whole body felt like it was suddenly on fire. It was like Tidus was breathing flames into his lungs. Tidus really was lava hot.

He felt his hardened root twitch with a delightful tingle, getting tighter still as Tidus grinded his own hard on down against it. He broke off the kiss with a strangled gasp, sucking much needed oxygen into his starving lungs.

Tidus smiled and his cheeks were burning a delightful crimson gold. “Does that answer your question?”

Phoenix nodded, wrapping his arms around his neck, pulling him down onto him. He loved the feel of Tidus’s weight pressing him down.

“Do you love me?” Tidus whispered warmly against his naked chest.

Phoenix planted a kiss on the top of his yellow head. “I’ll let you know.”

Tidus raised his head, looking at him with a playful pout. “You’re so mean to me.”

Phoenix poked him on the tip of his nose with his index finger. “I love you.”

Tidus grinned. “Are you ready to get dressed and figure out where the heck we are?’

Phoenix nodded his head as the bigger man rolled off him. He sat up, seeing their fire was almost gone. “And find something to keep this fire going, too.”

“Did you hear something?” Tidus suddenly asked, looking up at the spooky floor above them.

Phoenix listened to the endless pouring of the rain outside. “No.”

“Hmm,” he said, tossing the redhead his clothes. “It must have just been my imagination then.”

Phoenix looked up at the ceiling. What if it was another monster? Well, he’d help kick its ugly ass, too.

“Maybe Auron is out there looking for us,” Tidus said, slipping his now socked feet into his sneakers. “And I would hate to be you right now.”

“Why?” Phoenix asked, putting his clothes on. They were all ripped like hell. He might as well have just stayed half naked. But, it was incredibly alluring all the same. He looked like some angel who had taken a mighty fall.

“Those heels,” the blond said, pointing at his feet. “They must be killer.”

“Oh, they are,” Phoenix said, putting the other one on. “You should let me walk across your back in them sometime.”

Tidus shook his head. “I don’t think so.”

Phoenix chuckled, slipping on his now dry leather trench coat. He looked something dark and deadly. His red hair was wickedly wild and his eye makeup was all askew. He looked twisted, frightening, and it did nothing to hinder his radiant beauty.

“Wash your face,” Tidus said, rubbing his neck, getting to his feet. “Your eyes are really spooky.”

They looked like lime green emerald jewels burning in darkness.

Phoenix laughed wickedly and began to sing as he danced like a zombie towards him. “Am I scaring you tonight?”

Tidus snorted and then laughed out loud, playfully punching the smaller teen in the shoulder. “People were going nuts over you. Do you think you can top your own performance?”

Phoenix nodded. “That performance was tame compared to my original idea.”

Tidus gawked. “Huh?”

“Oh, yeah,” he said, strolling off, heels echoing all around. “I was told I had to be mindful of the children.”

Tidus followed him. “Tame?”

“If we ever find our way back to Zanarkand,” he said, turning to smile at him. “I’ll give you and only you a private concert.”

Tidus’s eyes lit up like twin blue stars. “I’ll hold you to that.”

Phoenix nodded, holding out his pinky. “It’s a promise.”

Tidus grinned, taking it with his larger pinky. “It’s a promise.”

Phoenix beamed.

Phoenix found a few more dry items that could be burned. He fed some more dry flowers and a log to the flames. He had found the log behind a fallen iron statue of some hero or deity. He had no clue as to why the log had been in that exact place, but he was thankful.

“What’s that?” Tidus asked, walking back into the circular chamber, looking a little disgruntled.

“I found her sitting all alone in a dark and shattered room,” he said, holding the little wooden dolly in his lap. “I couldn’t bring myself to toss her to the flames.”

Tidus rolled his eyes, sitting down beside him. “There is no way out of here and that door won’t open no matter what I do.”

Phoenix frowned. That wasn’t good. He was getting hungry and there was no food here. He had looked for that also.

He looked at the doll’s porcelain white face. She had rosy pink cheeks, deep amber eyes that looked real, and dark red lips. Her head was a nest of garnet curls. The frilly white dress she had on was made of lace and faded yellow in some spots.

“Do you know a way out of this place?” He asked the doll, holding her up so that the fire caused her hair to look like it was in flames.

Tidus snorted. “And he’s lost his mind…”

Phoenix elbowed him in the ribs. “Well, go find it. The gods know we’ll need it later.”

Tidus yelped, shoving at him. “Are you saying my minds not enough to get us out of here.”

Phoenix had the dolly kiss him on the cheek and he spoke in a light, spooky voice. “I’ll never tell…”

Tidus suddenly put a large hand over his petal soft lips, shushing him up. There was a noise. It sounded like voices coming from somewhere.

“Hey!” Tidus yelled at the top of his lungs, jumping to his feet. “Help us! We’re trapped in here!”

Phoenix was on his feet in an instant, grabbing him by the arm with his free hand. He could hear them, too. “What if they’re hostile?”

Tidus held up his long sword. The blade flashed in the light. “Then I’ll cut them.”

A low growl suddenly came from behind Tidus, causing Phoenix to look over his shoulder. His green eyes widened in fright. It was another monster.

“How big is it?” Tidus whispered, telling him not to make any sudden movements.

Phoenix looked up at him. “I believe it to be big enough to cause a lot of ouch with the hurt.”

Tidus moved to turn and Phoenix gasped when the large insect like creature pounced with a vicious screech. He could see those razor sharp talons and deadly fangs, dripping with poisonous hunger. It was like time suddenly stopped in place and a strange force shoved him and Tidus backwards.

They both landed on their sides to see the dolly floating in front of the snarling beast that had been denied its prey. A beam of amber light shot from the doll’s eyes, striking the beast in its frightening face. It howled in pain and fell over, unmoving. The two watched in stunned silence as the monster vanished in a swirl of rainbow colored lights.

The doll slowly spun around in the air and she no longer held such a sad expression. Her fiery red hair was slithering around her rosy white porcelain face and those red lips were happily smiling. She bowed her head to Phoenix and began to crumble away into glittering white dust.

Phoenix was stunned. What the hell? Had that doll been haunted?

“Are you all right?” Tidus asked reaching for him.

A loud explosion deafened him from behind and he found himself in Tidus’s strong arms. The two of them coughed and choked on the smoke and dust floating around them.

He could hear exotic voices, but he had no clue as to what they were saying. They were speaking in a tongue he had never heard before and it sounded really harsh, too. It was a lot like yelling.

Tidus helped him stumble to his feet and he turned around. The voices stopped speaking and all was silent. He was looking at five men with strange looking weapons and a woman with rather perky breasts.

“Thank you,” Tidus said to them, holding him closer. “We were trapped in here.”

Guns were suddenly aimed and Phoenix stumbled when Tidus shoved him behind him. The blond had his sword up and was ready to fight.

The girl spoke to the angry sounding men and then turned to them. “You two will be coming with us. So, lower your stabby with the stab-stabs.”

“You’re not going to hurt us?” Tidus asked with evident surprise in his voice.

The girl put a hand on her hip. “Do you want us to?”

“No,” Phoenix said, stepping out from behind the tall blond.

“Oh, wow,” she said, stepping closer, looking him over. “You’re a total babe.”

Tidus growled low in his throat. It made Phoenix smile. He loved knowing that Tidus was the jealous type.

The men mouthed amongst themselves, looking from him to Tidus and then back at him again. Their eyes held wary expressions. Why were they looking at him like that?

“I’m going to call you Blonde,” she said, smiling at Tidus, turning to Phoenix. “And I’m going to call you Red.”

Phoenix kept looking at the men. They were not taking their eyes of him. What was their problem?

“My name is Tidus,” he said, keeping his hand on Phoenix. “And this is my best friend, Phoenix.”

Phoenix turned away from the men to look at him. He still had his sword in the ready position.

“Ah,” the girl winked. “I’m Rikku. How did the two of you get trapped in here and are there any neat Machina?”

Phoenix blinked. “Machina?”

The men grumbled to each other and then a loud beeping sound was heard.

“Come along,” Rikku said, ushering for them to quickly follow after her. “We need to leave now.”

The ground suddenly shook under their feet, causing rubble to fall from above, and then it stopped.

“Was that an earthquake?” Tidus asked.

Phoenix held onto him to keep from falling when it started again. “No…it’s something worse.”

“Huh?’ Tidus asked. “What could be worse than an earthquake?”

Phoenix could feel pain, sorrow, and suffering. It hurt and he hated it. What was happening to him? It was like there were a million molten icicles stabbing his flesh. “That which is causing the earthquake.”

Rikku turned to them. “We have to leave now. Sin is upon us.”

The sound of that name caused Phoenix to shudder in even more pain.

“Are you all right?” Tidus asked in concern. “Did you get hurt in the fall earlier?”

Phoenix shook his head and a frightening roar filled the air with a violent wave of fear. It pulsed over their skin like scalding hot water.

“Come on!” Rikku yelled, running after her frightened men. “Follow us!”

Phoenix took Tidus by the hand and they did so. He turned back, whispering a quick thanks to the dolly that had saved them from the monster. He swore he head a soft giggle.

“Wow,” Tidus said, keeping a hold of Phoenix. “That’s some ship.”

A roar came from behind and they ran towards the floating palace. Phoenix looked over his shoulder, seeing a titanic paw crush the building they had just been in with ease. What the hell was it?

“You go first!” Tidus yelled, pushing him towards the ladder that everyone else was quickly climbing up.

He quickly began to climb, looking down to see that Tidus was right behind him. The ship suddenly lurched violently and he heard Tidus yell out in surprise as a giant wave splashed them.

He looked down. Tidus was not there. His heart thundered in his ears.

“TIDUS!” He screamed as the ship was being violently tossed up and down. “NO!”

A pair of strong hands seized him, keeping him from jumping down into the churning water. He kicked, snarled, and screamed in rage. It was like his voice could shatter bone.

“NO!” He roared like the storm above, causing the men before him to back away. He clawed with venomous hisses at the arms that were retraining him from behind. “LET ME GO! TIDUS!”

The wind was suddenly knocked from his lungs as tears streamed from his molten emerald eyes. He fell to his knees, holding his stomach. His vision was blurring and his mind screamed its fury, its horror. The fucking son of a bitch had punched him.

He fell over onto his side with a grunt, reaching out for the ledge with trembling fingers. A huge wave was coming right for the ship and the great beast roared like a hurricane. The tears stung and he felt himself thrown into bitter darkness.
