Chapter Two Pain

Pain.

Pain?

Why?

Where?

Sephiroth...

Sephiroth!

Cloud slowly blinked. What... why did his back hurt so much? He couldn't remember... couldn't remember anything. Where was he?

"I wondered if you were awake yet."

That purr...that was the cause of his pain. Cloud went to sit up, crying out as a fresh wave of pain resounded through his lower back. He settled with leaning his head up against the pillows.

"Stay away from me." Cloud whispered as Sephiroth walked closer.

"Are you in any position to be making demands?"

"..." There was no answer for that.

Cloud looked away from the other. He raised the blankets with one hand to look down at himself. He winced as he saw the bruises on his thighs where Sephiroth had gripped him.

"Give me my clothes."

Sephiroth debated that request. Finally, he threw the blond's clothing to him.

Cloud didn't waste a 'thank you'.

He held back pained noises as he forced himself upright. He was going to dress himself, damn it. Cringing, he slipped into his shirt. He fell back against the headboard, eyes screwed shut. There was no way- no way he could slip into his pants, or his boxers. And he was most certainly not asking for help.

So Cloud contented himself with tucking the blanket underneath his legs and successfully covering what his shirt didn't.

Silence reigned its head. Cloud held onto his pants and boxers with one hand, clutching the blanket with the other. Sephiroth watched him like he was an interesting animal he saw passing by- like a chocobo or something.

Close enough.

Sephiroth stepped forward and sat on the bed. Cloud immediately tried to shy away, but also instinctively shied away from the pain.

He couldn't do both.

He decided the pain was worth it. He moved over, not taking his eyes off of the older man. He reached the edge of the bed and threw his legs over.

Bad move. A very, very bad move.

He collapsed to the floor, gasping.

When Sephiroth went to move towards him, he croaked. "No. Stay where you are."

The man didn't listen.

He walked to Cloud's side, roughly lifting him and placing him back on the bed. Cloud struggled to free himself and cover his lower half once again.

"It's no use. I've already seen you."

"Just shut up."

Cloud felt tears form in his eyes. He was so helpless. He couldn't save Aerith- hell, he couldn't even protect himself.

That reminded him...

Aerith.

How could he have forgotten?! For one instant not remember her?

He couldn't save her. He should have ran forward, should have helped her...

But there was nothing he could do now.

She was gone.

And he was at the mercy of Sephiroth.

Angsty stuff, eh?
