Chapter 31
"Look at her. How could they do this to her? They...they hurt her so much Yazoo. This is all that's left of Mother, these parts she hid in the Planet."
"Don't cry Loz," The words came out so easily though Yazoo's heart was not in it. He simply stared as his brother knelt beside the pool of glowing Mako and several black masses slowly floated towards them. This was Mother? The gentle, all-consuming presence that they had felt since they were young? There was such a sense of wrongness that a strong desire to get as far away as possible coursed through him. Where could he go though? Surely if he tried, Loz would have Sin stop him and even if he didn't, there was no place for him. So the slender man remained, a silent audience as the dark shapes shifted and combined in their movement towards his brother's large, gloved hand.
As the blackness became a single form, about the size of a Chocobo egg, Loz stretched forward and gave it a gentle caress. The light in his eyes grew harsh and he gave a cruel smile through his tears, "We will make them pay for all the pain they caused you, Mother. No one will hurt you again, I swear it. I will help you destroy all the weak, pathetic beings on this wretched place."
Watching his older brother gather the quivering mass in his hands, Yazoo crossed his arms in front of him in an unconscious effort to warm himself in the suddenly chilly cave. Why did Loz never look at him with such tenderness and care anymore? Why did Mother, the being who proclaimed love and understanding, seem to want her sons to sacrifice themselves to satisfy her wishes? Already one brother had been lost, why did he have to lose another? He turned sad blue-green eyes to the other silver-haired man, inwardly wincing when he saw the way the shifting blackness was gently cradled and the obsessive contentment on the other's face. 'I lost him when Kadaj died and Mother turned her eye on him didn't I?'
A stinging wetness blurred his vision but he quickly blinked it away, emptying his mind and heart as Loz lifted his gaze to look at him. It appeared, however, that Yazoo's attempts at hiding his emotions had failed as a frown of displeasure crossed the pale, angular face. 'He thinks I'm being weak again. Why is it so wrong to be sad that my brother is leaving me? When Kadaj was going through the same thing, he never got angry at me for being sad.' A surprising thought caused him to pause. 'I don't remember feeling like this with Kadaj! Was I closer to Loz than him? No. Mother simply didn't think we should feel sad so we didn't. She took all of it away from us.'
A large part of him wished he could go back to that easy emptiness but a small, angry voice in the back of his mind asked, 'What else did she take from us so we would follow her mindlessly?' Yazoo shoved the traitorous voice away. These feelings and thoughts made a harsh reminder to him that he was a failure, an ungrateful, selfish, weak being as Loz had told him the night before. He lowered his head in shame under his brother's angry gaze.
There was a moment of tense silence before Loz gave an aggravated huff and turned back to the glowing Mako pool, "There is no point in sadness, worry, or regrets. Soon none of this will matter Yazoo. Just don't make him mad and maybe you will be useful to him too. Isn't that what we always wanted?"
Blue-green eyes glanced up through the long, silver strands and widened when they took in the reassuring grin on the older Remnant's face. That look was so familiar, something that Loz often had when looking at him or Kadaj, especially Kadaj, that Yazoo could only give a silent nod. He was afraid that if he spoke he would lose his tenuous control over the sadness welling up inside of him. Loz gave another grin as black tendrils of fog wrapped around his chest and arms, "You have fun. Keep out of trouble, little brother."
Then he was gone.
~
Miles to the south, in the clearing the Remnants had camped the night before, several people were scouring the area for any clue as to where the silver haired men had gone. One of the men cursed around his cigarette, "Damn clone bastards. How in the hell did they get rid of all the damn chips?"
"Vincent," came the quiet reply from a spiky haired blond. "Though he probably had no choice in telling them."
Cid cursed again as Nanaki and several others frowned with worry for their dark companion. Suddenly, glowing blue eyes widened in fear as Cloud quickly turned northward, "Sephiroth!"
~
Yazoo felt his body go numb as he drank in the sight of the silver haired ex-General. As a pair of beautiful jade eyes swept the cavern, one corner of the pale lips twitched upward slightly and a soft sigh of pleasure escaped them. A shudder went through those present as a deep voice filled the silence, "It seems at least one of my puppets knows how to follow orders."
Sephiroth paused in his study of the cavern when his eyes fell on the silent, dark haired captive. 'They should provide me much amusement while I wait here.' "Sin, collapse the entrance. I want no chance of interruptions this time."
"Yes Master."
The slave gave a short bow before disappearing down the long network of tunnels. Yazoo looked from Sephiroth to the tunnels in confusion, "But how..."
"Are you questioning me, little one?"
The long haired Remnant jumped at the close proximity of the voice and turned his head to find the man standing just in front of him. He closed his mouth and fell silent as the green eyes stared down at him with something akin to amusement. "Good. I would hate to have to punish you so early on." Long, black gloved fingers caressed the younger man's cheek, "Why is it always the pretty ones that cause the most trouble?"
Yazoo's eyes widened as Sephiroth leaned down, brushing cool, pale lips over his.
~
'I am sorry Cloud. I was too weak to stop it again.' He had broken another promise, failed to prevent the madness once more. The Nightmare stood only a few feet away from the body that was his own and yet not and he was unable to do anything about it. Vincent hated the overwhelming helplessness and despair that filled his heart, even as Sin practically shook with relief. 'Master has returned to us.'
The gunman felt his energies begin to drain from him quickly. He was tired of fighting, he wanted to give in to the pull of Sin. Over thirty years and yet he had changed nothing, his fate was still the same. There was nothing more he could do, why not just let it all go?
A sudden wave of fury snapped him out of his depression as Chaos surrounded him. 'GIVING UP ALREADY HUMAN? YOU DO NOT DESERVE THE LOYALTY OF YOUR COMPANIONS. TO THINK YOU WOULD LET THE SCIENTIST WIN SO EASILY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS. I GUESS I WAS WRONG IN THINKING YOU MIGHT BE BETTER THAN THAT MISERABLE, COWARDLY WEAKLING.'
Vincent growled in rage, "If I had my gun, you would be eating those words, demon. Never compare me to Hojo, you fucking bastard!" A fanged grin caused him to pause and he realized Chaos' game. The anger had burned away his ideas of giving up, pushing him to survive. He grumbled a barely audible, "Thanks," as he crossed his arms and turned his attention back to the world outside of his mind.
'GLAD TO KNOW THERE IS STILL SOME FIGHT IN YOU, HOST. SIMPLY BECAUSE THE BASTARD HAS RETURNED, IT DOES NOT MEAN WE HAVE LOST. I REFUSE TO GIVE UP UNTIL THE LAST OF MY SPIRIT HAS BEEN TORN APART.'
Vincent saw the cold, calculated look the former General gave Sin before ordering the servant to seal off the tunnels and wondered, 'If he finds out about us, it may end alot sooner than that, Chaos.'
The winged slave made quick work of the entrance, easily collapsing the large stone overhang. Once he was sure nothing further needed done, Sin hurried back down the tunnels, unwilling to invoke his Master's wrath so soon by not returning fast enough. He stopped just short of entering the cavern, waiting for his Master's acknowledgment as he had been trained to do. Cold black and crimson eyes quickly found the two silver haired men and a wave of rage emanated from the demon. 'BASTARD! THE SHINGA-CHI IS MINE!'
Sin froze in fear as a short growl escaped him before he could stop it. Sephiroth raised his eyes, a cruel smile of victory on his lips as he looked at the slave.

This is probably one of the few well written, professional fan fics I have come across. The other is called "Diabolic" by Ookami Kasumi (you must check this fic out Seph x Vinny yumm)
This story, despite the lack of yummy yaoi, keeps my interest up with the drama and suspense. Two things which I love. Throw in some yaoi and yo have a perfect mix :P
Keep up the most excellent work.
-Fan of you for life :D
