Eiko Takes Charge... (heaven help us all)

Away to the other side of the castle, atop a high observatory, stood a girl about the age of ten. She had semi-short, violet hair that was tied with a long, pink bow. She wore the ancient weave of a summoner and had short Pegasus wings fitted to her shoulders. An unmistakable horn grew straight from her forehead, giving her the look of a strange relative of the unicorn. She sighed wistfully as she gazed out over the in-bloom country of Alexandria.
“So pretty…” she whispered to herself. “If only Zidane was here to see it too…” Eiko Carol had, for some time, been infatuated with Zidane but never did stand a chance against the powerful love between himself and Queen Garnet. Her only hope was to except the inevitable and so she settled with close friendship.
“I wonder when he’ll be back?” Eiko thought aloud. She had been invited to Garnet’s birthday a week in advance for she lived with Regent Cid and his beautiful wife Hilda in the neighboring kingdom of Lindblum. Eiko was also a close friend of Queen Garnet’s due to their ancestry and suffering 4 years ago.
“Eiko?” came a soft voice from behind her.
“Vivi?” she turned around to find a black mage of about her same age and height, he being slightly older than she. He had a round black face with two glowing yellow eyes and not much else. His hat, which should have been in the shape of a steeple, flopped, almost comically, to one side. “What are you doing here?” she demanded, “you weren’t spying were you?!”
“No! Eiko! I just got here!” Vivi jumped back in surprise. Eiko could be somewhat violent at times and the last thing Vivi wanted to do was provoke her. “I came to tell you that Zidane has returned to the castle!”
“Really?!” Eiko leapt off the tier steps and grabbed Vivi by the hand, “alright!”
“Miss Eiko, wait!!” Vivi stopped her.
"What is it Vivi? I want to go say hello to Zidane!” Eiko was quite impatient.
“But Eiko, sorry I forgot to mention that Zidane brought someone with him! You’ll never believe who it is!” Vivi sounded extremely excited.
“Oh, its not a… girl is it?” Eiko put her hands on her hips.
“No… not really…” Vivi straightened his hat which was about to fall off.
“C’mon! Let’s go!” Eiko yanked Vivi down the steps and through the door to the bottom tower.
“Wait Eiko! Zidane is in the royal chamber! We can’t just barge in!!” but all was lost on Eiko as she tore off down the grandly decorated hallways towards the Queen’s chambers.
