The Twist
Chapter 4
Not twenty minutes into his not-so-peaceful slumber Irvine sat up breathing heavily. For the past three month he had been having the same dream. In which Zell walked in on him and Squall in bed. Not only was the look that crossed Zell's face enough to make Irvine cry, a look of utter betrayal and pain, but every time Irvine had the dream the ending would change. Sometimes Zell would get over it and be okay, sometimes everyone would shun Irvine and be cruel to him for what he did, and others... sometimes Zell would kill himself. Even though Irvine knew it was just a dream he had to fight down the urge to call Zell's cell phone just to hear his voice and know he is okay. Irvine cast a look at Squall's sleeping form and frowned, he needed to get away from this.
Irvine stood and gathered his clothes from where they had been discarded earlier. Once he was dressed Irvine left Squall's room quickly not looking back. He didn't really know where he was going but he needed to get away. He thought of going back to his own room but at the thought of Seifer a blush rose to his cheeks and he quickly discarded the idea. Irvine let his feet go where they would and it wasn't long before he found himself leaning on the railing of the "Secret Area". The Secret Area was empty when Irvine had arrived, a fact that didn't surprise him in the least seeing as it was about two in the morning. Since Irvine was alone and highly doubted that anyone would be happening by he let his defenses down and allowed himself to act how he felt. His shoulders slumped and his head hung Irvine cried a slow and steady stream of tears. He lifted his head just slightly and looked out over the Balamb Sea trying to work things out in his mind.
"What am I gonna do?" He whispered to himself but having no answer to his questioning he merely sighed again.
"About what, cowboy?" A voice from behind Irvine questioned, Irvine jumped and spun around to face Seifer. Seifer smiled at him and strode over to stand next to the shorter man. "Damn, you seem to be cryin' a lot lately. Isn't that a bit outa character?" Irvine blinked then looked back out at the water.
"What would you know?" Irvine asked softly. Seifer looked surprised for a moment before laughing lightly.
"I guess you're right. After all it's been four years. But you just never seemed the type to break down crying all the time." When Irvine ignored him and continued to stare out at the sea he tried a different tactic. "Come on Irvine..." No response. "Come on whatever it is can't be that bad right?" Irvine laughed harshly before it turned into a choked sob. He buried his face in his hands and turned his back on Seifer not wanting him to see him cry. " Shit." Seifer mentally kicked himself and set about clumsily comforting the upset cowboy. "Irv? Hyne, I'm sorry Irv. Don't cry." When Irvine didn't listen and only cried harder Seifer did the first thing that came to mind. He pulled the other man into his arms and turned him so that Irvine could cry into his chest. Seifer ran a hand down Irvine's back and tried his hardest to think of something to say that would help but nothing came to mind. Instead he made his grip a little bit tighter and leaned down to place a soft kiss on the other mans brow. Irvine’s tear slowed and after a while he lifted his face from where it was pressed in Seifer’s chest.
“Seifer.” He whispered his voice ragged from the crying. He met the older mans eyes and was shocked by the concern he say there. “Why?” Seifer just smiled and wiped away the fading tear tracks with his thumbs. Seifer leaned forward bringing their mouths within centimeters of each other and for once Irvine didn’t move back. He kept his eyes focused on the enchanting emerald eyes in front of him and when Seifer pressed his lips against his he didn’t fight. Irvine closed his eyes and parted his lips in silent invitation wrapping shaky arms around the taller mans neck. After a few minutes of passionate kissing Seifer pulled away and looked into dazed and glossy violet eyes.
"I hate to see you sad. I've been in love with you since we were children. You're just so hyne damn lovely." Seifer whispered.
"Seifer..." Irvine was locked in that jade green gaze, unable to think and wanting nothing more than to feel those soft lips on his once again.
