Chapter 5
Squall arrived on the train with Cid Highwind. Squall was taller than Cid, with brown hair and a scar over his nose. His scar ran opposite direction of Seifer’s. Cid limped off the train behind Squall. Yuffie ran up to him and hugged him. Cid looked happy to see them. Squall greeted was Zell in his usual manner.
Cid, “Whoa kid. You almost knocked me off my @#%* feet!”
Vincent waited for them to walk over.
Cid, “Hey, Vincent. What are you and Yuffie doing here?”
Yuffie, “We came here looking for you, old man.”
Cid, “Who else is here?”
Yuffie, “Just us and. . . Cloud. But we have no idea where Cloud is.”
Cid, “Oh god....... Lets talk somewhere else with seats and food..”
Squall, “Maybe in Balamb Garden?”
Cid, “This is Squall. These two idiots are Yuffie and Vincent. Gotta love them.”
Squall, slight nod, “Hello.” Not caring who they were.
They go to the car and drive back to Balamb garden. The three (Cid, Yuffie, and Vincent) go off to the cafeteria to eat. Squall and Zell go to the headmaster’s office. Kramer greets Squall and asks them to sit down.
Kramer, “So, how has your trip back been?”
Squall, “Not bad . . . a bit long. What has been happening?”
Kramer, “Well, some strange energy burst have been seen. These are some gates ways to another world. We have been getting creatures from their side and vise versa. The person whom you brought, along with his friends, are from that world.”
Squall, “What do they plan to do?”
Kramer, “We haven’t asked them yet. I am giving them a chance to talk it over first.”
Zell blurts in, “So, how long do we give them?”
They get there in time to snag some hot dogs. Even Vincent tries one. They go to a table away from the main section to talk. Cid puts his left leg on a unused chair.
Vincent, “..... Interesting food.”
Cid, “Yeah, food suited for kids.”
Yuffie, “Then why are you eating it?”
Cid with a smile, “I’m young at heart.”
Vincent, “Most of the energy bursts have been harmless. Some have brought creatures from our world. I think the cause is in this world. What do you think we should do?”
Cid, “Me?”
Yuffie, “Well, Cloud isn’t here and you’re the next in command.”
Cid, “Like hell I am!”
Yuffie, “You have been here longer and we just got here. Besides, you’re such a great leader!”
Cid thinks it over some, “Fine. . . . Till Cloud is back, I’ll make the decisions. Okay, I say we work with these people here. This is their home and they ought to be of some use.”
Yuffie, “So, when do we tell them?”
Cid, “When we are deatieating. Hell, I am in no rush.”
Vincent, “Hmm. . .” Finding the taste of hotdogs addicting.
They go back to Kramer’s office after lunch. This is the first time Cid Highwind was up here and he could see the controls to Balamb on top a thick structure. Squall was also in the room.
Kramer, “Hello again.”
Cid, “Hi . . “
Kramer, “Have you had a chance to talk?”
Cid, “We decided to investigate this problem. If you also plan to do some checking, we could work together.”
Kramer, “I was hoping we could all agree to work together on this. Squall and Zell will be working with you.”
Cid, “Yeah, that will be great. Have you heard anything new?”
Kramer, “I haven’t heard from my people yet. Squall can show you around Garden. To the places you haven’t seen, Mr. Highwind.”
Cid, “As long as it’s not as boring as my last tour. I almost fell asleep on my feet.”
They got through the tour. Cid found it as boring as before. Squall showed them the first and the second floors. Cid’s last tour only involved the first floor. Vincent was slightly interested in the place. Yuffie was bored stiff.
Yuffie, “I would rather be kicking butt.”
Cid, “Yeah, but we can’t go running around blindly. Well, I won’t . . . but if you insist on acting stupid. . . “
Zell walks up, “Hey, I just learned we’ll be working together.”
Squall, “Hey, can you keep them amused? I have to go do something.”
Squall goes back to Cid Kramer’s office.
Kramer, “Your impressions of them?”
Squall just says, “Do you really want to know?”
Kramer moves on in topic, “The largest energy surge has been near the Centra Ruins. You can go look it up.”
Squall, “And you want us to walk, ride, or fly to the isle?”
