//PineappleGirl// Thanks, Babe. I try to make this work, but it's hard. So much route to cover, I'm trying to make it brief. Thank you so much for reviewing, you know I love your face
//Kishana// The greatest chick ever, you must show me that picture! I waited until this chapter to describe Squall, because I thought that it was too soon or something. I didn't want to have a huge description at the Training Center and then do a huge description at the Ball. Thank you for reviewing and emailing. You're awesome.
Chapter 5: Day-time Drama
"I think it's romantic. How you guys...I don't know. Genuinely charged at each other?" The young girl bounced up and down with this giddy grin that you just wanted to slap off her face. Luckily for her, I resisted. Selphie in person, looks like she's fourteen, and it's sad on Irvine's part. Unless, he likes that sort of thing.
"Selph, why do you think Squall stormed off like that?" I asked her, remembering all of us out on the field.
Squall was on his way to Limit Break and all I had was Ifrit. I never used a GF before, so it was a little weird at first. I yelled it, 'Ifrit' and my body was invisible. It was hot where I was and felt like I was about to burst into flames. How was I suppose to know that you have to say who you wanted Ifrit to attack? I guess he was still pissed off at Squall for beating him back at the Fire Cavern and...
"The man was burnt to a crisp," Zell butted in. "Not even I would go near a guy that flamed. Did you see that stare he gave you?"
I shut my eyes picturing the glare he shot me right after we beat X-ATM092 for about the sixth time. The feel of his ragged breath against my cheek, as he stood mere inches away from my face. Not the way I wanted, oh no. Squall continued to tell me that Ifrit wasn't even needed in the battle. I did the worst thing I could do. I laughed at him. That's when he stormed off, going back into his brooding state.
It surprised me how different he looks as a person and not as some blurry pixel. I always thought that he looked like he used eyeliner, but it truly was full lashes. As for the hair, it was exactly like the graphic: untamed mocha locks that rebelled to stay out of eyes. Each thick strand coming down in sharp points. You'd think Squall is pale, but he always has some type of blush on his cheeks. When I say 'type' I mean there's more then one 'Squall blush'.
One, I'm pissed off. Two, I really just did that and no you can't stop me. Three, I just blew the head off of a T-Rexaur, you want it? or my personal favorite, the restless, angry, and tired blush.
The boy is perfect, even his habits. The way he places his hand on one his curvy hips. Lithe was the word. You can only imagine the package that's underneath that small cotton t-shirt. I swear he wears the leather as a punishment to all humanity. I had thunder casted on me eight times and all I could keep thinking about was his leather clad body.
Oh, in battle? he was exotic. Squall was fragile on the outside, but once you see him working and get a glimpse of his rage...he doesn't seem so fragile anymore. The lion comes out and he manages to derail everything in front him. One flick of his wrist and your fucked six ways to Sunday. I have to keep reminding myself that he's trained to be a weapon.
In conclusion, Squall is like tequila or reality TV-tolerable in small doses, unbearable when your exposed to too much of it.
"That was great, though," Selphie smiled. "I mean he was all 'grrr' and you were all like 'grrarrrr'."
I nodded, solemnly. "That definitely was the craziest fight I've ever had."
"Do you know who passed?" Zell's voice was low, but you could tell that he's eager for the answer. The answer that I don't want to spoil.
"Go up stairs and look for yourselves." I smiled then, giving him a wink. Azure eyes lit up like fire works and fists flew in the air. I ducked my head and laughed a bit.
"Get ready for tonight!" Selphie waved. "I'll see you at seven."
I turned around, almost bashing into a cross? No, wait. A cross shirt? Odd looking for a cross...Oh, sweet lord. I could already feel the aquarium eyes forming metaphorical holes through my head. "Hello Seifer."
"You must know by now," he says, dully. "You have to know."
"What ever are you talking about?" My voice was so sweet, it almost made me regurgitate in my mouth. It would have been a funny scene. Seifer all peeved, getting ready to run to dorm room. Crying like a wimp, you can tell that, that's his style. Yeah, he's tough and arrogant on the outside, but on the inside, I bet he's a baby.
"I guess no congratulations then, ey?"
"Go screw yourself."
I raised my hand, blocking out anything else that he was going to say, and left. I'll be damned if I'm going to let him push me around. He can just forget about it. I have more important things to tend to, like my apology to Squall. Hey Squall, sorry Ifrit burnt your ass off. No, that's not right.
I punched in the code to my room and headed for my dresser. I was grateful that Hironobu supplied me with the things I needed. I got out the dress I had worn for my prom. It was a nice dress, not too fancy, not too plain. Hyne knows that the Ball was formal.
I was glad that it was this dress, though. It was a deep red and was the only dress that wouldn't look terrible or dramatic with my hair. I slipped it on and quickly got my heels. I've decided not to go hostile with the make-up. I kept it light and simple. My hair was kept down and straight. I actually got to see how long it really was without it being a mess. Down to my shoulders isn't that bad. I remember when my mom use to complain about it being too short or too long. It's obvious that she wasn't my favorite.
-
The lights were bright and florescent. If it wasn't for the see-through ceilings you would have never known it was night out. It felt a little weird to be here. If it was jitters or just the simple fact that I felt like I don't belong here, I didn't know. As long, as I kept still.
Selphie's hand cajoled me to follow, but I couldn't. I was too overwhelmed with being around all of these people, this scene. I couldn't stop staring at everybody, they were so alive! There's couples smiling and laughing. The women are beautiful, dressed in their finest. They were everything classy and delicate in this world.
As for the men, I like my men in uniform and trust me, there's plenty here. One particular boy caught my eye. He was just where I knew I'd find him, playing the loner like he always does, and oh, how he played it so well. So surreal, Rinoa had been right when she said that he was the cutest boy here.
A dark and a 'commander' look to him, with his back against the wall, and glass of champagne in his hand. Squall looks as though, he has no worries, like he doesn't care. He fakes a smile towards the Headmaster and gains a cheers. But I probably the only one here who knows that behind those thick locks is a full pouty frown. A broken heart and confused soul. Stubborn and bold at the same time.
The will power it's going to take me not to shove Rinoa out of the way. The Asian points to the sky, throwing Squall a flashy smile, and of course it wins him over. One of those Kodak moments that you show your new boyfriend from a stupid album.
'That's when I noticed a shooting star and this really hot guy looked at me and we shared this connection. He became my knight, it was so amazing! Tehe.'
I rolled my eyes, mocking her walk. It was sort of duck-like and reminded me of Yutaka. Okay, so she was perfect and so was her walk. You know, she's the only one who looks Asian so far. I watched as Rinoa dragged him out onto the dance floor, giving Squall another smile. I could have killed her, the way she made him blush with his lack of experience or the way she coaxed him into a dance position. One step, he was catching on. It was his dance. He was trained for it.
"Wanna go for a bit of a rough and tumble?" purred the very, very sensual voice. It would have been a turn on if it wasn't an English accent that disgusted me beyond it's being.
Doing what I did to him earlier, I held up my hand, and hoped that he gets the picture. "Leave me alone, Seifer."
"Wish I could, love." Seifer's grip on my wrist was tight, as he spun me around to face him. I know I made it sound smooth, but believe me when I say that it wasn't. "Your lips say no, but your eyes say yes."
I struggled against his grasp, yanking, pulling, and even tried yelling insults that would make a normal person embarrassed, but it was useless. The strong blond pushed me flushed against his chest and started to move in what I could gather, a slow dance. "Is that what you say to all the young eight year-old boys' around here?"
He smirked, breathing quite heavily on my neck. Is he dying? "I wasn't going to come today, seems how I failed the SeeD exam, but something reeled me back. I take it you already know what it is."
"I can only concentrate on one person-"
"Squall," he mused. "Squall is a little boy with a stick."
I suddenly found the motivation I needed to get pissed. I pushed Seifer off of me, shooting him a glare, before hissing, "I'd rather have a boy with a stick and a dream, then a boy with no dreams at all."
"Hyne, I'm good," he grinned, showing off a set of sharp teeth. I guess they don't have any dentists here. "Is that all it takes to a get a reaction out of you, girl? When I mention Squally-boy?"
Whatever. I walked away, hearing him tell me that it's not over. There was no start, which to me made things even more hilarious.
The fire works went off, bursting into blue and purple. The colors brighten and darken on Squall's face, making shadows on his skin, playing a huge part in his attraction. He actually looks relaxed, that is until she blows him off.
Why hurt? Why does he have to look so hurt? I mean, he acts like he doesn't give a shit about her in the beginning. I shrugged it off, getting ready to pick my princess off of the ground and away from despair. Oh, the drama!
Okay Lisa, all you have to do is grab him. No, not grab, ease yourself to him. I stood in front of him, finding that my very presence doesn't even make him acknowledge me. I cleared my throat, finally gaining a 'what?' from him. I gave a curtsy, before taking one of his hands. The future commander's expression was some-what confused, but he soon recovers, and starts to move with me.
I could have melted when his hand went to my waist, moving me to follow the direction of his steps. I slid past him, stepping towards the side and back. I had barely enough time to catch my breath, as he takes my hand and spins me out. I come back into his arms, nearly bashing into him. A slight growl forms in his throat, making me even more nervous. Klutz is in my bloodline.
"I'd like to apologize about that whole-" I try to elaborate what to say, but I froze up, like I always do. Lisa, you're such a fucking wuss.
"Whatever..." You can tell that he's purposely trying to avoid eye-contact with me. I refused to believe that he's looking for that bubbly brunette. Even though, she's prettier, smarter, skinner, and some how stronger then I am. Oh great, here comes jealousy's twin sister depression.
"We're going on a long adventure soon," I said, lightly, afraid to say it any higher, and have him snap at me. "You should get some rest tonight. When Quistis asks you to meet her at the Secret Spot, try to end it quick. You'll be exhausted in the morning."
He raised a thin eyebrow, questioning me with a glance. A very menacing look that fits well with his blunt features and sharp structure. "Don't tell me what to do."
I didn't get the chance to use one of my wistful come-backs, as he twirls me out again. This time, my hands lay on his chest. I was still trying to chase away the chocobo's squawking circles around my head. God, he hates me.
The song ends and on cue, Quistis comes up, and tells Squall to meet her at the Secret spot. I have a 'I told you so' smug look on my face. If anything, he grew even more aggravated. Couldn't blame him, I had predicted most of his day.
"Nice dress, where'd you find it?" Quistis moves her glasses up from the bridge of her nose, pretending to take a closer look. "Ah, yes. The slums."
"You don't get him either way. Even if I'm gone, Rinoa gets him. Get over it and prepare yourself for a nervous breakdown in ten minutes."
(As if he'd ever like me)
Quistis stuck up her nose at me and walked away. I know, you're probably thinking that I was too hard on her. The thing with me is that I love to be blunt about feelings or the obvious. Quistis is trying to come off with her mock-authority skills and for that reason alone, gives me a reason not to like her.
Again, eighteen. It's like being in High School all over again. You're trying to steal my man bullshit.
That's all this is...Bullshit. Life in Balamb isn't magical it's just life. Everyday drama. Where's the jitters and the spazzing? Where's the power and the magic? I knew the lesson I was being taught. I refuse to believe...

Seifer: Aha, funny! Why are you bouncing up to be knocked down? why?
Lady Saktaka: Make him shut up, someone! ANYONE?!
