A Rough Landing

***************************

Some time earlier, Zidane arrived at the castle. Choco’s landing wasn’t very smooth due to the fact that the dead pepper’s powers had begun to run out. “WHOAH!” Zidane cried as Choco hit the ground with a bump.

“Kwehhhh…..” it sighed, thankful to be alive while meanwhile, Kuja grumbled for having toppled into the road.

“Sorry Choco,” Zidane stood up and helped them both to their feet, “but we made it, all thanks to you!” Zidane hugged its downy breast.

“Kweh,” Choco thanked him.

“Here, you can have these…” Zidane reached into his satchel and dumped out a huge pile of Gysahl Greens. “Eat up, Choco!” he said.

“KWEH KWEH!!” it attacked the bunch ravenously.

“C’mon Kuja, let’s go inside.” Zidane said.

“Good day, Master Zidane,” the two guards who stood watch over the channel to the dragon boat greeted him.

“Hey guys, having a nice day?” Zidane said merrily as he sauntered up.

“Yes indeed! Many guests arriving today!” the shorter one said with a salute.

“Who’s that with you Zidane? Friend of yours?” the tall guard motioned to Kuja who stood back apace.

“Yes! This is Kuja! He’s all the way from the Outer Continent to join in the birthday celebrations,” Zidane eased him forward.

“Wow, the Outer Continent? That’s quite far, good of you to come!” the short guard shook Kuja’s hand.

“Yes… thank you for having me,” Kuja tentatively returned the shake.

“Well, go on through, Master Zidane!” the tall guard waved them on.

“Thanks, mate!” Zidane smiled and led Kuja up the cobblestone walkway to the Dragon boat which lay waiting for passengers at the docks.

A huge river surrounded Alexandria Castle and so a boat was needed. As Kuja and Zidane boarded, he said, “To the castle, my dear lady!” to a woman soldier in glittering armor.

“As you wish,” she answered as she slowly pushed and guided the boat away from the shore and out into the open channel.

“My… I had forgotten how beautiful it was,” Kuja murmured, eyes held spellbound by the beautiful castle scenery.

“Yeah, it took them almost a year, but they finally rebuilt the parts of the castle that were destroyed four years ago… I! Oh… I’m sorry,” Zidane didn’t catch himself in time before he mentioned the somewhat painful past.

“Yes…” Kuja sighed heavily, “do not fret over it…”

“Hey, its alright, don’t worry… that’s all in the past now.” Zidane reassured him as the castle loomed closer, the huge, crystal, sword-shaped pillar casting a long, rainbow shadow on the lucid clear water.
