Kuinnu: I am getting SO good at writing my stories now. All I need is the right music to set the mood.
Cloud: So I’ve noticed. You do that a lot.
Tifa: It seems like music is your inspiration, isn’t it?
Arien: For me, I have to read something really good, get some reviews and, well, listen to some good music. Good music is always a plus.
Kuinnu: I just need the right music and sometimes watching a movie to get some ideas.
Vincent: So you introduce Amber into the story finally.
Kuinnu: Just a little. It’s more of a cameo than an introduction.
Arien: It’s still nice to get some recognition. Even if it’s only in Cloud’s memories.
Kuinnu: Here we go! *turns off recorder and hits the start button*

Chapter 5: A Ride Down Memory Lane
((For those of you who can find it, listen to ‘Calling’ by Kyosuke Himuro for this part. This is the song that was played during the secondary credits of Advent Children, when Cloud was driving along the road on his bike.))
“Cloud, you sure about this?” Anya asked as she walked downstairs ahead of her self-appointed bodyguard.
“Come on. I’ll take you out for some fresh air. It’ll do you some good since you’ve been stuffed up in your room since you got here.” Cloud said.
“I can assume that we’ll be taking your bike then?” She said with a slight smirk on her face.
“What’s wrong with Fenrir?” He asked back, also smirking.
“Nothing.” She said as they reached his motorcycle. Cloud got on first, Anya seating herself behind him, wrapping her arms around his waist.
“Be careful you two.” Tifa told them from the doorway. “Kadaj still hasn’t shown up, so we don’t know if it’s safe for her to be out and about, Cloud.”
“Don’t worry. She’ll be fine with me, Tifa.” Cloud said, starting up his bike. “I’ll take her down to the Chocobo farm. We’ll be back later.”
Anya looked back at the other woman as Cloud revved his bike twice before the two began to take off. Her long golden hair was blowing behind her like a banner as they drove along, enjoying the scenery that passed as Cloud drove.
“Don’t worry. I’ve got more than enough weapons stored if they show up.” Cloud assured her as they rode along the highway.
“I can fight, you know. I’m no damsel in distress. And I can fly if I need to get away from anything.” Anya said.
“I know. But I still worry about you.” Cloud said, not looking back at her as he said that. “Why’s that?” Anya asked.
Cloud didn’t answer at first. “You remind me of a friend of mine. Two of them actually.” He said. “One was Aeris.”
“I know Aeris. She was a friend of mine when she was younger.” Anya answered softly.
Cloud picked up speed as they kept making turns around parts of the road. ‘Just how old are you?’ He thought, knowing that a guy never asked a woman her age unless he wanted to get slapped. He decided to word it another way. “How long ago was that?” He asked.
“About… 9, 10 years ago, I guess.” Anya answered. “I keep forgetting that humans age faster than Avions.”
“What do you mean by that?” Cloud asked, not following.
“Avions age slowly after they reach a certain age, to retain our youth longer. In our first few years, we age rapidly. A newborn infant can grow to be the shape and appearance of a five year old human child in about a month.” She explained.
“That is fast.” Cloud said, surprised. “But what about mentality?”
“It grows just as fast as the body.” Anya said. “But, let’s say an Avion child is only two, but appears to be ten. That child’s body won’t age for eight years. Once the actual age catches up with the body, the body will keep growing into teenage appearances. Then the process continues until we reach what you humans would call puberty. After that, our bodies fully develop and we don’t change much after that.” She said.
Cloud still felt a bit confused but understood the majority of what she was saying. “I see. So you age quickly, then slowly, then quickly, and when you hit puberty, you stop?”
“Pretty much.” Anya said, nodding. “But, Cloud, who’s the other person I remind you of.” She asked him.
He paused as he remembered another young woman who had been dead for many years. “Amber… Her name was Amber Vaerun. She grew up with me and Tifa back in Nibelheim. Her parents had died when she was pretty young, so my mom and I took her in. We did almost everything together. We even ran off and joined SOLDIER together.” He said.
Anya noticed the tone of sorrow in his voice as he spoke of the girl. “Did you two ever date?” She asked.
“No. She often dated guys who ended up breaking up with her. She eventually dated my best friend Zack.” Cloud said.
“She dated Zack?” Anya asked, her eyes a bit wide.
“Yeah. But, eventually they broke up and….” He paused as he remembered what happened. “Well, after she broke up with him because she thought he was cheating on her with Aeris, she starting dating Sephiroth.”
“What?!” She asked, her violet eyes wider now.
Cloud nodded slightly. “Around the time she and I joined, Sephiroth was suffering from insomnia and he wasn’t eating right. From what I’d heard from Zack, he’d lost his girlfriend. Some said she ran away to get away from SOLDIER, others were saying that she just left him for someone else. Zack said that she and Sephiroth were even engaged.”
Anya winced, hearing the word ‘engaged’. “What else happened? I mean, with Sephiroth.” She asked.
Cloud began to think back to when he was younger. “I don’t know how long he had been suffering from insomnia, but I think his ‘relationship’ with Amber started about a month after we joined or so. Amber actually made it into SOLDIER. But, anyways, one night she was getting whipped by one of the superiors. I can’t remember the reason anymore. But, she was getting more lashed than she was ordered to get. Sephiroth had been watching and finally ordered the man to stop.” He paused, remembering watching that night. “She was a bloody mess and could barely stand. But not once did she yell out.”
“Sounds like she was pretty tough.” Anya said, admiring the girl a bit.
Cloud nodded with a smile. “She was. One of the strongest people I ever knew.” He said. “For a while after that, she was put through ‘odd jobs’. One of them was acting as a live-in nurse for Sephiroth because his health was failing, since he wasn’t eating or sleeping right. When I asked Zack about it once, like ‘Why get so worked up over a woman like that’, Zack told me. ‘Love can do that to a person.’ I find it hard to picture Sephiroth ever being in love.”
Anya winced slightly as he said that part, her grip around his waist becoming a bit tighter.
“Hey, you ok?” He asked, noticing her grip tightening around his waist. Strangely enough, he didn’t mind it all that much as he normally would have if it had been anybody else.
“Yeah…” She answered, looking up at the sky. “I’ll be ok.” Her voice was a bit shaky.
“You sound like you’re scared.” Cloud noticed.
“I’m not scared. What would I be scared of?” Anya snapped.
“Ok ok. Calm down. I just asked.” Cloud said, wondering what she was trying to hide from him.
“Sorry… I just… Have bad memories of SOLDIER.” She said slowly, looking down at the road.
“I won’t pry.” Cloud said calmly. “I’ll let you tell me when you want to, Anya.” He told her, smiling gently, even though she couldn’t see it right now.
“Thanks Cloud.” She answered, leaning her head against his shoulder. Being around him made her feel safe, and she liked that feeling of security.
“Your welcome Anya.” He said, picking up some more speed as they kept driving to the Chocobo Farm.

“Enjoy her company while you can, Brother.” Kadaj said to himself, watching them pass by from a cliff. His emerald eyes were glaring at Cloud with intense hatred and jealousy. “Because I’ll be taking her back from you soon enough. She is our savoir, and she will bring HIM back for good.” He ‘promised’ before riding off to rejoin Yazoo and Loz.

Kuinnu: I wouldn’t do that, Kadaj.
Cloud: *smirking* Just remember that I hold the power over your GPA in my class at school.
Kadaj: *growls and curses under his breath* Damn you to hell….
Arien: *laughs* Oh yeah! This just keeps getting better and better. *turns off recorder *
