Chapter 53

Nanaki's golden eye clenched shut as he fought against the pain and threat of unconsciousness, his jaws snapping at the thin but seemingly unbreakable tentacles that slashed his skin and wrapped around his legs, holding him to the floor. How could he have let this happen? The stench of Jenova should have caught his attention but she had masked herself in the Mako, waiting until his attention was diverted long enough for her to strike. Now he was practically helpless on the cold stone ground and the pieces that weren't holding him were attempting to infect Yazoo. The golden energy around the Remnant appeared to be fighting her off but there was no way of knowing how long that would hold.

As the black tentacles began to slither to his neck, the fire wolf released another desperate howl. The cry was cut short as the thin tendrils denied him the air, Nanaki struggling with everything he had to break the alien's hold. His single eye shot open as an enraged roar shook the cavern, Chaos hurtling from the shadows with Cloud in his grasp.

The blond swordsman quickly analyzed the scene, "I'll get Nanaki!"

Chaos gave no response but released the man as close as possible before he shot towards the glowing Remnant. Cloud quickly rolled to his feet, First Tsurugi raising instinctively as tentacles rushed toward him. As he blocked the deadly limbs, he swore as the ones binding Nanaki grew visibly tighter, the light in the wolf's golden eye beginning to dim, "Let him go you bitch! Hold on, 'Naki!"

An enraged light flared in the glowing blue eyes as he split his sword, furiously cutting away at the black, whip-like tendrils. Just as he began to push his way to his fallen friend, one of the tentacles broke past Cloud's defense, it's end shifting to become a deadly point aimed for his neck.

"Duck, moron!"

The swordsman dropped just as a crackling stream of dark energy flew over him, frying the black flesh as the two collided. Taking advantage of the opening, he dove toward the fire wolf, grabbing hold of the dark mass wrapped around Nanaki's neck. Instantly, the alien cells shifted, thin, needle-like spikes piercing gloved hands and furred skin. Cloud grit his teeth against the suddenly flaring of Jenova's voice, her screams nearly drowning out all coherent thought. He fought against the assault, instead focusing on pulling the black tentacle from Nanaki.

The fire wolf took a deep breath as the suffocating grasp loosened slightly. His lips pulled back in a fanged snarl and he twisted and snapped ferociously, desperate to remove the rest of the restraints. Cloud had to force away the urge to jump back as sharp teeth nearly tore into him several times but understood his friend's desperation and did his best to help.

Finally, one, then two, then several of the thin black tendrils broke, the pieces writhing for several moments. As Nanaki took a moment to catch his breath, Cloud watched as the chunks of dark flesh suddenly began to move purposefully away from them and towards the pair by the Mako pool.

He quickly regained his feet, shouting as he ran, "Chaos! Behind you!"

He was surrounded, Her voice calling to him with sweet promises. He didn't know how long he had been in this darkness; for all he knew, he had been trapped there for no more than an hour or no less than a month. Around him lay Loz and Kadaj, their bodies torn beyond recognition. He had watched them die time and again, most often by his own hand as he relived the effects of Professor Hojo's experiments with Specimen V-005.

::Come with me, Yazoo. I can take you away from the pain and tortures the humans have caused you. You won't need to fear your own anger any longer. Come and join us, my child.::

He knew She spoke true, he could feel the absolute numbness beckoning just out of arm's reach. That was the price to be rid of this pain, the loss of all other feelings, all he had to do was embrace it. He could remember that blissful void, a deep temptation for the ache in his heart. A memory flashed before his eyes.

**Death Penalty lay at his feet and fiery eyes looked at him with resolve and understanding, "I will give you this choice only once, Yazoo. Our chances are slim but Chaos gave his all to make sure we had one. You can either end this now and go peacefully or you can fight. Sephiroth will show no mercy and will break you if we do not win but at least we will try."

He had turned down the offer, "There is no choice Vincent. I may be weak, but I am not a coward."**

Those words echoed in Yazoo's mind. No, he was not a coward, he wouldn't let the gunman down now, "I will never go with you. Leave me alone, you parasite!"

"How rude to speak to your Mother that way, puppet." A smooth voice echoed in the darkness.

The Remnant turned to find Sephiroth standing there in all his glory, "She is not my mother!"

A silver eyebrow rose, "And who told you that lie? Let me guess. Valentine, right?" The former General gave a derisive laugh, "The man is a hopeless sap who worships the ground that Dr. Crescent walks on like she's some sort of saint. Of course he would tell you she is your mother, but he is wrong. She is nothing but a whore who happened to give birth to ME. It was Jenova, in her infinite wisdom and power, that actually created me and, in doing so, created you and your brothers."

"You're wrong. Lucrecia may not have actually given birth to me but she is more of a mother than that alien bitch will ever be!"

Fury flashed in cold jade eyes before a cold smirk appeared, "Perhaps you have not been reminded enough of what those humans did to you and your brothers. After all, why save those that caused you so much pain?"

Yazoo felt a wave of terror as his mind was lost to the darkness and his memories once again.

His metal-covered left hand clenched tightly as he studied Yazoo, Chaos had placed the glove back on knowing the human hand that had replaced his own would be useless in this battle. The winged demon growled in frustration, his eyes locked on the dark mass that had already dug inside the Remnant's wounds. He itched to tear the Jenova cells apart but the golden glow surrounding the pale body turned him away time and again. 'HOST, WE WILL NEED TO WORK TOGETHER TO WAKE THE SHINGA-CHI. HIS BODY CAN REJECT HER BUT ONLY IF HE IS AWAKE.'

'What needs to be done?'

Chaos could hear the fighting die down on the other side of the cavern and gave a mental sigh of relief. He held no real affection for either but they were loyal companions to his host and as such had earned his respect. 'I WILL SEND ENERGY THROUGH YOU TO HIM TO HEAL HIS WOUNDS. YOU WILL HAVE TO BE THE ONE TO HEAL HIS MIND. I WILL BE UNABLE TO HELP YOU THERE.'

"Chaos! Behind you!"

The demon whirled at the blond's shout, his claws tearing through the barrage of needle-like spikes flying toward him. Golden eyes flashed with anger as he found several of the black masses surrounding him and Yazoo. Cloud leapt over the writhing flesh, slicing at the tentacles that shot out at him.

The blond hacked a stray tentacle that tried to take him from behind, kicking it away when it landed on his boot before running through the opening that had been made. Nanaki snarled to his left, slashing and gnawing at the vile flesh and even managing to use his tail to ward away the smaller of the squirming masses.

Cloud ran up behind Chaos, the demon sending out little blasts of black energy and following up with a slash of his deadly claws. The swordsman stood back to back with the creature in front of Yazoo, covering him from behind as he continued to fight the bitch off.

The demon growled when a tentacle shot towards his leg from the side, intending to wrap around it, but the sharp tip of Cloud's blade cutting through its middle stopped it and held it to the ground. Blue eyes turned to the demon with a smirk and golden eyes rolled.

“That was unnecessary, human.”

Cloud snorted, spinning to dice apart the flailing limb that aimed for his shoulder, “You’re starting to sound more like Vincent.”

“Hn.”

”Look,” Cloud started, stepping around to block and stand in front of the demon, “I got your back, just do what you have to do and do it fast. The boy needs you, I’ll hold them off for now.”

Chaos seemed to pause before nodding, “Alright.”

Cloud nodded and called out to Nanaki, “Red! I need you over here! You take the front as I watch the back!”

“Understood!” answered the fire wolf. Together both team members covered either side of the injured man and demon, hacking and slashing, biting and ripping the fleshy black tentacles. Protecting their comrade was important, and they would protect him with their life.

Meanwhile, Chaos knelt by Yazoo’s side, ‘READY HOST?’

‘As ready as one can be.’

‘GOOD.’

Wings retracted into Vincent’s body and muscles became less defined. Slowly, hair became tamer, falling against a wingless back and nails became shorter before golden orbs flashed back to scarlet and amber.

Vincent stared at the pale Remnant, gaze softening before growing angry when the boy’s face suddenly twisted with terror, a whimper escaping from him. Chaos growled ‘YOU NEED TO TOUCH HIM, WE MUST HURRY.’

‘Alright.’

Vincent lowered his hand and placed it onto a shaking shoulder with a whisper, “Hang on, Yazoo…”

It was like being shocked by a hot wire, the feeing tugging at his soul. Suddenly, the golden mist-like energy wrapped around his body, causing him to freeze, eyes widening.

A/N: I am so sorry for how long my chapters have been taking me lately. Part of me thinks my muses are stalling because they dont want to finish this story...if everything goes according to plan it should be done in about 5 or 6 chapters...of course we all know how my plans go. ;P

This one was a masterpiece, the chainsaw spanking had me cringing but it was amazing all the same. Don't think that was quite how Sephiroth imagined he would meet his end.
I'm assuming the black dots are an indication that uber-harpy Jenova is planning on interfering? I didn't think that she'd take the murder of her greatest prodigy all that well...

oooooooooooooooo no you didn't. yazoo is not allowed to be back under jenova's control that parastic bitch. I love the idea of spanking seph with hellmasker's chainsaw, that totally rocks. I liked the idea of shoving death penalty up seph arse so much that I used it in one of my RPs but instead of sephy is was rufus and instead of death penalty it was a random velvet nightmare but thanks for the idea anyways. I look forward to the next chappie you have me clinging to the edge of my seat and biting my nails waiting to see what happens next. If only i were half the writer you are, my stories would be most excellent but alas I am not so I will have to keep reading and wishing instead. I love this story so much (even though I feel hella bad for vinny and yazoo) that I saved it to disk so i can read it when ever I want. I think to date i have completely read all the chapters 4 times....
