Chapter 58

A/N: Before reading this chapter, I feel that you all must know that I was not the one that wrote this. I was so torn up over the subject matter that my muses refused to cooperate. And so, Chapter 58 of Taming the Fates was written by Sapph. And I must commend her on her ability to write this masterpiece. I could not have done better myself and believe this serves as a proper tribute to my beloved OC, Sin.

That being said, I feel I must warn you, this one is quite the tear jerker. But I do hope you enjoy it for its overall value to the storyline itself.

Chapter 58

The question caught him off guard for a split second, his brain doing a double take at the name of the alter ego as Yazoo’s voice repeated the question in his mind ‘What happened to Sin?’. Mixed emotions flashed across his face, eyes shifting to the floor briefly before meeting the young Remnant’s nervous glaze. No, he had not forgotten about the creature… if anything, this was one of the reasons why he wanted them to be alone, aside from questions and explanations.

“Vincent?”

Dark amber-red embers searched the pale, young face before him, seeing the concern and curiosity held for the slave in that luminescent blue-green.

‘Our time is lessening, Valentine…’

“Yazoo...about Sin…”

’It was be easier for us to explain it to him then it would be for you…’

Yazoo’s brows drew together as he moved to stand, grasping the gold claw that hung at Vincent’s side. Colors were flashing in narrow eyes, fading in and out of red and black across the irises and sclera. The corners of his lips tilted, his free hand resting on a pale cheek. “What’s wrong, Vincent? What happened to him?”

The gunman released a sigh, eyes shutting as his face tilted in Yazoo’s palm and his right hand coming up to cover the slightly smaller digits. “Sin is fading, Yazoo.”

The silvered haired boy froze, mouth cracking open in momentary shock at the words. Fading…Sin was disappearing, leaving. How…”Fading? Isn’t he a part of you though?”

’Master is afraid to lose us…isn’t he?’

Vincent nodded to Yazoo, subconsciously to Sin as well. “Without the collar to control him, Sin feared that he would become a monster incapable of functioning as one. He said he would kill everything that crossed is path without the restraints of it.” Yes…he remembered the tone and panic of the creature’s voice as he told him and the pain that had been etched in the stone face.

’Please…we must…’

His grip on Yazoo’s hand tightened, “To Sin, the only way to live was to be held and to hold captive. He simply didn’t know anything else. He was not human anymore to know how to be in control of himself.”

Realization was like the rising sun on Yazoo’s face, tears beginning to well in the corners of his beautiful eyes. “So to be able to control himself…Sin…had to become human. Meaning that he would have to become one with you…”

Crimson orbs closed, “By merging with me, not only would he be human again, but he would also be close his master still. By doing this, it will help him to cope with not having his collar. Sin would not need one if he had the free will of a mortal. All he wanted…” Vincent was cut short by a twinge of pain across the back of his skull, cause him to clench his eyes and a hiss escape from his lips.

’This is ours to tell Master.’

Yazoo saw the pain, letting the claw go to hold the gunners face between his hands. “Vincent, are you alright?!”

A solitary orb opened, keeping the other squeezed shut. A light breathy laugh left from his lips, “I believe it is time to keep my promise to him, before he tries to force his way out.”

Yazoo could only blink as dark hair became darker, seemingly growing longer, and purple and red multi tone’s streaking into the inky tresses. Skin become paler, muscle thicker.

Legs stretched and transformed into that of Galian’s paws and a tail curled itself out from behind the tall man’s frame. Wings shuddered, stretching away from the changing body when they were let free. A broken sigh tumbled from Sin’s mouth, which had a few less fangs, instead being replaced by deadly looking canines.

The hand that covered Yazoo’s had shorter claws the before also, though the size of the hand itself still engulfed the remnant.

Finally, the creature opened his eyes, their dark hues as entrancing as ever.

The young man made a small noise, thumb caressing the smooth flesh of Sin’s cheek. “Sin…”

The creature sighed once again, but this time…this time it was in contentment. To be in his Master’s presence once more calmed him, reassuring raging his mind. This was everything to him and was his everything. When he was without Yazoo, he couldn’t breath. It was almost as if he was suffocating, lost in the vast darkness without any hope of finding a way out.

His Master was his light, his guide out of the dark hell of his lost soul. This is what he lived and survived for. To keep his light bright and full.

Sin’s face turned into his Master’s hand, lips pressing against his palm, “Master.”

Yazoo shook at the simple touch, little shocks running down his arm, warming the blood in his cheeks. Licking his suddenly dry lips, the silver haired male pulled his hands down slow, bringing Sin with him till their foreheads touched.

Tears escaped when Yazoo blinked, sliding down to drip off his chin. It was painful to realize how much he had come to care for the servant, especially now that he was learning that the strangely endearing creature would no longer exist soon.

“Is…is what Vincent said true then?” he asked. “You were afraid of losing control?”

The winged male hummed, eyes watching the salty liquid leave silvery trails as they fell. For a fleeting moment, his hand left Yazoo’s to catch one of the droplets as they glide down satin, tracing his claw back up it’s falling path and wiping the traces of it away. Sin dark gaze once again rested on sad blue with a small nod. “Without our collar, we are uncontrollable, even to ourselves. Never would we be able to have a sane mind without it.”

Sin’s nose nuzzled against Yazoo’s affectionately, “We were also afraid of hurting our Master.”

The younger man sobbed, throwing his arms around the slave’s neck and burying his face into multi hued strands. He was fading away just to protect him! Why was it that everyone felt the need to die for him?! The one being whom even Sephiroth could not kill was disappearing in the simplest of ways! It was Sin’s duty to keep him safe and unhurt yet he was hurting him in the most painful way! He could feel his heart breaking more then it already was, chipping away and dissolving into nothingness.

His angry sobs were muffled. “God dammit, Sin! Why?!”

Strong arms wrapped around his smaller body awkwardly, Sin’s hand coming up to rest on long silver tresses. Yazoo’s body shook in his embrace and the overpowering anger and anguish stung his senses. Sin whimpered, nuzzling his face against the side of his Master’s head.

“We are not meant for this world any longer, Master…Our purpose was to keep you safe and we have. We are not needed to protect you anymore, not with both the demon and human watching over you.” The creature sighed, fingers idly stroking soft locks. “There is no other purpose for us that we know of, Master.”

Pulling back, Yazoo searched dark crimson irises through a watery glaze, hoping that Sin wasn’t serious. How could he not know? There was no lie that he could see, however, and the young man knew that his servant truly did not see what lay beneath the surface of the truth.

Lips pursed in thought. Sin watching him curiously, his arm still placed around his body.

Slowly, Yazoo smiled sadly. So soft that it was almost nonexistent. Leaning forwards, his lips pressed gently to Sin’s cheek. “You are a fool, Sin. How could you say that?”

Sin blinked. “It is the truth…”

Silver strands shook. “No. No its not. Can’t you see, Sin? It is in your right to live. To live as everyone else does. Live as a sentient being. You can be your own person! You could breath as a free being, not having to worry about a stupid metal device. Not worrying about whether or not you will displease your Master.” Yazoo kissed the other cheek, lifting a hand to run fingers through thick silk. “You could still be with me physically, and you could still protect me.” Lips touched his sharp nose, “Can’t you understand that you deserve to live like us? You have a heart, a soul and a mind. Your purpose is to keep living, for yourself and not just for others.”

All the air in Sin’s lungs left him in a whoosh and so did the ability to breath. To…keep living? Was that his reason?

’It would have been a choice I would have given you, Sin, had you wanted it.’ whispered the human in the back of his mind. Strangely, the demons had remained silent in this, watching the events unfold with something akin to respect.

Why? Why did he deserve such a valuable thing! It confused him, sending his mind reeling. Did he want to live? Wasn’t his soul too lost, his heart too black and his mind too filled with bloodlust to deserve a life? He would kill! Murder and slaughter! All in cold blood and without reason should he forget himself!

To live would be a privilege, not a purpose! Should he be given the chance, would he be able to maintain a sane piece of mind? If his sins were forgiven, how easy would it be to taint them once again?

Could he possibly live when he was already dead?

His soul was growing heavy with the faults of his past, and to him, he knew it was already too late. He was becoming human. All thoughts and hopes, memories and feelings were beginning to merge with Vincent’s, slowly becoming a part of him till only he would feel what Sin had felt. He would become but a memory.

And that was okay with him.

On the outside, Sin smiled a true smile. His hand placed itself on Yazoo’s cheek, remembering the satin texture as his rough fingers caressed the soft skin.

Memories of the night when he took Yazoo, the young Master crying out beneath him as he held him in place and worshipped his body, were locked away and would always be there. The sound of his voice, the difference in the sound when he was angry, or when he was happy. The sound of his pleasured cry as he came, soft and light in its sound.

Yazoo watched the smile lighten up Sin’s dark features. A part of him hoped, hoped with every fiber of his person that Sin would choose to live…choose to stay with him. The touch on his cheek was so gentle though. It tugged at the dark corners of his mind, making him concentrate on the strength behind the simple touch.

It was almost as if there was no strength.

Tears began to well again. Deep down…he knew.

Sin’s voice was light and…almost happy as he spoke, finger sliding to cup the back of Yazoo’s head gently. “We thank you, our Master, for showing us that we do have a purpose.”

Yazoo was being drawing closer and closer to Sin, tears openly falling once again. Dark eyes were beginning to look lighter than the empty void of black, streaks slowly becoming dull.

No…

He was so close…so close that their breaths mingled, burgundy orbs glancing at trembling lips, “We will live…but it will be as a memory.”

It hurt…Yazoo began to sob. “I don’t want you to be just a memory…”

Lips moved to kiss his eyes, collecting the salty tears. “Remember us, and remember that we will always be with you. Just in another form is all.”

“It hurts.”

Sin kissed the corner of his mouth with a smile. “Think of the day where you soared across the night sky, with us as your vessel. Remember and smile, Master.”

His breath left him in a short laugh, the memories of when Sin held him close as he flew across the land, so far up. When he dived, how close their bodies had been, wrapped in the cocoon of leather wings.

Yazoo re-tightened his hold around Sin’s neck, a watery smile finally found his lips as he nuzzled against Sin’s cheek. Nodding a little, Yazoo closed his eyes lips trembling, "I...I'll remember. Forever. I promise."

‘Finally’, Sin sighed in relief, “Thank you Mas…Yazoo.”

Their lips met, pouring their souls into this one moment. Leisurely and sweet as their lips moved, grips tightening around each other, not wanting to lose this. Breathing didn’t matter anymore. All that mattered was that they were together, for this one final time.

Yazoo would always remember the sound of his name on Sin’s lips in the end. It would be their final memory together, the slave formally addressing his Master for the first and last time.

Time faded out in Sin’s mind, making it feel as if he was frozen in this moment. His candle became weaker and weaker as the wick shortened, the wax melting away. The void of his mind was dark, thoughts slowing down and fading.

In the end, he was happy. And that’s that mattered.

’Goodbye…Master…’

A/N: Frizz:You have no idea how much I wanted to demand that Sapph have Sin agree to live. Damn I didn't want to let him go. Several times I had to walk away just to stop crying. But I do believe in the end, this will really shape the story the way it needs to be.
Sapph: I am an emotional wreck....As much as I love Sin, it has to be done. *Tears up* Furrballl...

SapphireDoG
You just HAD to go say it...didn't you???? *curls in a little angsty ball in the corner, glaring and pouting* Furball....
I go cry now.
Frizz: I'm sorry! But I must thank you immensley for this work of art sweetie. I would never have been able to pull it off the way you did.

Kerianya
So glad to have you back lovely *hugs* you've been very missed I think.

A smiley Cloud must have looked wierd! He's many good things but he's a long way from being Zack Fair :P
Cid was...well, I dislike Cid very much so he didn't really disappoint this old fangirl at all, but at least Nanaki was there to put them all in their places. I love that fire wolf.

Verrrrry interested to see how long Chaos' patience lasts before he starts trying to bond with Yazzie again XD

Your very relieved fangirl,

Kerianya XxX
Frizz: Yes, Cid can be an ass but he can also be fun too. I have had alot of fun with him in Snowstorms. As far as Chaos goes, he needs to go to the backburner for this chapter. Perhaps his issue will start to be resolved in the next chapter.

Now I am curious how Yazoo´s and Vincent´s relationship will develope (I take it they are meant to become a pairing?). It is good to see that everyone tries to get along after the really exhausting and turbulent events. And of course I want to know what happened to Sin too, I am quite fond of that Character of yours!
Well, this one should fix your curiousity but perhaps not in the happiest way.

Golden Kitsune

Frizz: Hehehe, the sequel is going to be rather interesting, and yes, I will be using all of the characters from DoC plus some!

viva_rose
Weeee! Update! So we're going to the angst cave, oh joy!
Frizz: Yep! Should be an interesting one, what with it being Yazoo's "first" meeting with his mother and all.
