Dark Day

Irvine's Secret
Chapter 6
"Dark Day"

Morning. The sun finally rose from the seemingly endless night. Rays of light fell upon Squall's face making him blink into consciousness. The day was bright and happy, although the air about the house was the polar opposite. He lie in bed aware of last night, still hoping it was a dream. But there was no possible way it could be. He knew it, he knew. The soft breathing of Rinoa was a constant reminder. Her hand lie on his bare chest and he hated it. He hated every second it was there. Squall slowly got out of bed in search of clothes.

"How was I?" Rinoa wakened. Squall fell silent and lead on the dresser in disbelief. She came to him and pressed her naked body against his. She placed his hand on her breast and he greedily groped her, pushing her back to the bed. He felt a lump in his throat, but wouldn't cry. He was in so much emotional pain he figured pleasure would ease his sorrows. He hated having sex with her and knew she was loving every moment.

Quistis and Zell sat at the breakfast table. They were discussing what to do about the entire manner. None of the thought this would ever happen. They knew that Squall knew they knew. And it probably wouldn't be long before Irvine became aware they knew as well.

"I just can't believe it..." Zell said. "After all that,...he..."

"We'll speak nothing more about it anymore. Not again. Not to anyone." she sipped on tea.

"But. They were like...ya know...the real deal. You know. Like the type to run off and get married?"

"I said no more, Zell! We're not going to say a damn thing! And we're not siding with anyone but ourselves."

"...Alright." he nodded softly.

Irvine was awaken by a soft kiss on the lips from Selphie. He and Selphie were covered by no blankets. The blankets lie in a heap on the floor. The sheets were coming off, the bed was crooked, and their hair was mussed. It was clearly evident that he'd taken Selphie more than once, and quite wildly at that. Selphie kissed him again.

"Last night was wonderful..." she grabbed a pillow and hugged it, using it to cover herself. "So that's what it feels like." she smile. Irvine sat up, almost listening. "Now I know why Quistis and Zell are always at it." she played with his chest. "You know...it feels really good when you-"

Horrified, Irvine blurted out "Be quiet!" and she hushed. He got up, wrapped a towel around his waist, and left the room. He walked down the hall, going more by memory than will.

The bathroom was quiet and cold. Dropping the towel and turned the shower on. He watched the water fall until it steamed with heat. The shower made his mind clear and relaxed him. He tried to stop all thought but he remembered and thought of him.

Squall was now in the living room. He sat in a chair surrounded by luggage. he wore the cold, uncaring look he used to. He waited for everyone to pile in before announcing that they were leaving. On the car ride to the train station he didn't even look at Irvine. The entire time the car was in dead silence. They took out their baggage and waited to board.

"Hello, sir." Wedge bowed, obviously having a better day than the rest.
Squall handed him the tickets and pushed him aside. "Move."

"O...kay..." he timidly replied.

Quistis apologized for Squall as she got on. The group sat on the train, praying for the ride to end.

It was deep night when they arrived back home to Balamb Garden. And without a word they saw their leader break off from them and with a cold shoulder, locked himself away in his room.
