Chapter 8.
______
Yuki fell flat on his back, an annoyed looking Squall stood in front of him in the training centre with his gun blade poised.
“You’re not concentrating!”
The cadet sat up looking sheepish. “Sorry.” He smirked. “I can’t stop imaging you naked.”
Squall rolled his eyes. “Didn’t you do that before last night?”
“Well yeah, but then it was fleeting fantasy and now I keep thinking why waste all this time training when we could be doing something just as strenuous but so much more fun.”
His lover frowned. “Because if you don’t keep up with your training you’ll fail and have to leave garden and then we’ll never get to be alone together.”
Yuki sighed. “Well when you put it like that….” He got back to his feet.
Squall smirked at him. “And if you be a good boy and do as you’re told now you might get reward for it later.”
The cadet grinned in interest. “What sort of reward?”
“I haven’t decided yet, it’ll be a surprise.” He gestured for the cadet to pick up his blade. “Now come on.”
~IIIIIIIII~
Zell packed up a bag with things he thought he would be need for his mission. Squall had given them to a job to do when he sent them here and sitting here on his ass was not in his nature.
Seifer wasn’t going to do any work while there were here so he’d have to do it himself.
Figure out what the Galbadians are up to. He couldn’t do that sitting here and watching. The little blonde dug out a voice recorder and jammed it into his pocket.
Lots of those big red ships had docked here there was plenty of time to sneak abroad one, eves drop on a few conversations and escape, he’d done it loads of times and was confident that he could do it now.
He packed light, a communicator to contact garden, a radio in case everything went wrong and he could not get in touch with garden, his voice recorder and a sandwich…. For a snack.
He snuck out of the room, Seifer was still sleeping he glanced back over his shoulder at the slumbering blonde as he shut the door.
Once out on the dock he made for the nearest ship skirting around it in case anyone was around to see him.
It was still early in the morning, not a lot of people were up yet and it didn’t look like the Galbadians were working yet. Typical lazy Galbadians.
He peered into one of ships, the door was open and he could hear voices.
Zell stepped inside cautiously, he made it inside and hid round a dark corner.
It seemed rather dark in there the walls were the same red and black as the ship was on the outside and they didn’t seem to believe in lights so it was very dark in there. He supposed that was a good thing he could blend into the darkness easier.
Two soldiers were talking near by, he could see the back of one of their heads if he stretched, they moved on deeper into the ship and he followed at a distance.
The pair stopped up ahead and Zell was in a corridor with no little hidey holes to stop in or anything, he panicked and moved forward, opening a door and going inside.
The room was empty thank god and dark. He fumbled for a light switch, something brushed up against him. He froze, what the hell was that?
His hand felt a light switch, the room was suddenly filled with light.
He jumped back from a large purple chocobo, which had been nuzzling into him. He moved back in shock, bumping into the door and knocking something off the wall with a crash. He froze, hoping no one had heard the sound, knowing they would have to be deaf not to have heard that.
He heard voices coming his way and shoved past the chocobo and into a cupboard at the back of the room. The managed to shut the door behind him, finding himself face to face with a small shelf with a nest of purple spotted eggs in it.
He heard voices enter the room.
“What have you done now?” A voice said.
“I told you we couldn’t house a chocobo on the ship.”
“What else are you supposed to do? How was I supposed to know the eggs would hatch that fast? Normal chocobos are tiny when they hatch, they don’t grow this fast.”
“Well it was your idea to collect up the eggs and bring them abroad, I told you to leave them but you wouldn’t have it.”
“Yeah, yeah.”
The chocobo kewled gently.
“Well can’t we tie it up something? Look at the mess its made.”
“We’re leaving for Galbadia soon, it doesn’t take that long to get home, it’ll be fine till then.”
The soldiers exited the room, Zell heard their voices fade and the door shut behind them.
He had pressed the record button on the voice recorder when he had first got into the cupboard but wasn’t sure how much of that he caught.
He moved out of the cupboard and studying the chocobo he had certainly never seen a purple one before. From the look of the eggs there would soon be five purple birds in there.
He had heard the bit about leaving for Galbadia soon, he had to get off this ship before then.
~IIIIIII~
Seifer was aware of the little blonde moving about the room, it was around six in the morning he didn’t know Zell was ever alive at that time.
He cracked open an eye and saw the Chickie stuff a couple of things into a small shoulder bag.
He shut his eyes and pretended to sleep when the little blonde turned to look at him.
Zell moved to the door and glanced at Seifer one more time before heading out.
As soon as the door was shut Seifer launched himself out of bed and pulled on a pair of pants and threw on the t-shirt. He peered around the curtain to see Zell hurry to the dock.
Shit!
He grabbed his shoes and put them on as he stumbled down the hall.
Outside he ran down to the dock and spotted the shorter man sneak around a Galbadian ship.
That little idiot! What the hell was he doing? Sit back and watch was mission, was that so difficult? He was sure Squall did not want them to get in trouble and drag Balamb down with them or worse get themselves killed.
Well he should turn around and go right back to bed and left Zell sort out his own mess, why should he put his neck on the line for that little idiot?
He stopped and watched Zell disappear inside the ship he stiffened, looking back towards the hotel.
He should go back and inform Squall that Chickie was either in trouble or dead.
He looked back at the ship. On the other hand it would look more brave of him if he risked his own life for the own of Zell’s. Not that he cared one way or the other about the short little Chicken. Apart from the fact that with a Zell shaped toy to cuddle up to and… do other things to he might miss him…. Slightly at least until he’d found himself someone else to play with.
He sighed and walked into the ship too, checking around in case anyone saw him enter.
It was dark on the inside but he could heard voices, no sign of Zell though.
He hid in a corner when there was loud crash from inside one of the room and the two soldiers turned and hurried inside the room.
Seifer took the time to sneak past that area and down farther into the ship.
A large briefing room/lounge was in front of him, a couple Seeds were lying on the sofa, one of them had his head near the door and the other was lying the other way around with his feet next to the other’s head.
He wished Balamb would folk out the cash for a ship this big for them, all they got was a little box to sit in with hard plastic chairs and with Zell and other idiots waving their arms around in preparation for battle it felt very small.
He looked over his shoulder as the two men from before walked straight past and down the hall, just mistaking him for one of their own.
He went back up the hall to the room they had just come out of and walked in.
Seifer walked straight into Zell who was on the way out.
The little blonde stared. “What the hell are you doing here?” He hissed sharply in a loud whisper.
“Shh keep your voice down there Chickie! I came to find you! What were you think sneaking in here like this! You could have been killed or-” He suddenly noticed the strange coloured bird behind Zell.
“What the hell is this?”
Zell turned round. “It’s a chocobo dumb-ass, what did you think it was?!”
Seifer swatted Zell round the head. “I can see that! I mean I’ve never seen-” He walked up to it.
“Nope neither have I.” He followed Seifer who walked round the bird. “I heard them guys say they found a nest of eggs and this thing hatched and grew in a few days.”
Seifer doubtfully eyed the bird, which was up to Zell’s elbow. “That thing is much more than a few days old, more like a few months.”
Zell shook his head. “No I heard them say so.” He dug the voice recorder from his pocket.
“Listen I got it all on here.” He rewound the tape and pressed play. Nothing happened. He frowned and wound it back more and still nothing happened.
“I don’t understand it, it was here.”
Seifer shook head. “Are you sure you pressed record and not play?”
“I err- I think I did but I don’t know it was dark.” He looked up with a disappointed expression.
“Then maybe I don’t believe you.”
Zell frowned. “Don’t be an asshole, you were doing good up till now with you being worried about me and all.”
Seifer frowned. “I wasn’t worried!”
“Yes you were, you came after me!”
“Because I thought you were screw up the mission and Squall would blame me if you got killed.”
“But when you burst in here you said I could have been killed, you didn’t say you fucked up the mission.”
Seifer opened his mouth and shut it again. “Shut up Chicken Wuss I was just confused by my having to charge in here and rescue a little idiot like you.”
“I don’t need you to rescue me this isn’t one of your little fairytales and I am not your fucking damsel in distress.”
The ship suddenly gave a hard jolt throwing Zell off his feet and into Seifer’s arms.
They both froze.
“What was that?” Seifer asked.
The ship gave a creaking noise and then it felt like they were moving.
“Shit!” Zell exclaimed. “We’re moving!” He grabbed the door handle but Seifer stopped him.
“Get out of the way asshole do you want to end up in Galbadia?”
“It’s too late, we’re moving, the door is shut, you can’t just charge out there!” He gripped Zell’s shoulders.
“Then what else am I supposed to do?”
“That’ll all you know how to do isn’t it? Charge in and think later.”
Zell glared at him and opened his mouth to respond but Seifer got in there first. “We wait till the ship gets to Galbadia you’ll have plenty of time to gather your information on your little toys.” He gestured to the voice recorder.
“And then?”
“We either explain to garden that you cocked it up….”
“Me?!”
“Or we get back to FH ourselves.”
Zell pulled roughly out of Seifer’s grip. “Tch fine.” He grumbled.
