Author: Amber Dawn

Fandom: Final Fantasy X-2

Pairing: Gippalai

Warnings: Slash. Duh-hur. AU.

Summary: [AU] Gippal finds himself a thousand years in Spira's past, caught in the struggle between Zanarkand and Bevelle. How can he survive an age he k not nothing about, even though the one he's always admired stands by his side?

Disclaimer: Not mine. Don't sue.

Archiving: Ask. I don't bite often...

Notes: Nervous about this one. It was a random bunny that nibbled on my brain one night. Um, so...yeah. AU. Extremely AU. Al Bhed translated at the end. Try to enjoy it?

The first thing he could remember was the blinding light. Brilliantly blinding, enveloping him in its cold arms. For all its brightness, you'd think there'd be heat, but no. It was freezing. Or maybe it was desert heritage that made him feel that way. Either way, it was blinding and cold. Except then, suddenly, it wasn't. The light was dimmer, softer. Warmer. He wasn't floating in the cold void anymore. He was lying on a warm bed. He couldn't move, but atleast it wasn't so damn cold.

"Can you hear me?"

A familiar voice, so soft, so soothing. Calling to him, drawing him out of his paralyzed trance. He managed to pry the one good eye open, trying with all his will to focus on the blur of tanned skin and white hair that hoovered over him, nervously.

"Don't strain yourself. Can't have my guardian sicker than he already is, now can I?" The humor was strained, a poor attempt to make the injured one smile. And it almost worked, his lips twitching at the corners.

And then, the word registered. Guardian. The age of Guardians had passed with the age of Summoners; when those gifted with the ability to join with the Fayth had ceased to be useful, so had the ones that had stood by their side, faithfully, until the bitter end. Above and beyond the call of friendship.

"Cred," he murmured, his lips swollen and dry, tongue desperate for any drop of liquid that could be afforded to him. He could focus better now, at least, enough to notice the look of alarm that raced across his companion's face. A face he recognized only as Baralai, Praetor of New Yevon, his closest friend. A hand immediately fell on his forehead, a soothingly cool hand. His eye fluttered shut at the contact, and he sighed, even as Baralai's frown deepened.

"Your fever hasn't gone down yet...Go back to sleep, Gippal."

Gippal opened his mouth to protest, to wonder what was going on. All thought was silenced as the lips brushed over his forehead, lips he'd longed to just barely touch with tender finger-tips those long nights in Bikanel.

Questions, he decided, as the Praetor curled up around him, could wait until morning.
