Sometimes, trying doesn’t always work, its giving up, and letting things happen, that’ll make the preordained events come into play. You see, I wasn’t always this way. I was as optimistic as a sixteen-year-old at prom. But something happened to me that I was afraid that I’ll never overcome. I lost the one person I could share my happiness, love, trials; basically, everything. It seemed so trivial; hell, we went through so much shit that it seemed we would never get out of it. The funny thing is, we always had each other. So it didn’t matter that we might not live through the next battle, or that we might not be able to save the planet; just as long as we had each other.
He called me Sydney. He was always like that, not a one for nickname; like Cid or Highwind.

They sat in front of a blazing fire with champagne in their hands. Cid cradled his lover in his lap. He loved the slight, warm weight against him. He was nuzzling his lover’s neck when, “Cid, what’s your real name?”
Cid froze, he dreaded this conversation for so long. He knew he wouldn’t make fun of him for it, but there it was just the same.
“Cid? You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to-“
“No its just-“
“What?”
“You just don’t know what its like to have an embarrassing name like mine.” He wasn’t joking, he was beaten up after school for it.
He smiled indulgently at Cid, and it made his heart so light, “Why don’t you let me be the judge of that?” He asked softly.
“**********”
“What?”
“M’ name’s Sydney. Ya happy?” All he heard was silence. Cid was afraid that he was laughing at him or something, but he was wrong.
“Sydney?”
“Hmm?”
“My middle name is Marion.”

I kinda smiled at that, it was one of the things that I loved about him. He never made me feel stupid. But he always kicked my ass whenever I did something that made me look like an ass.

All of Cid’s pent up anger over his Tiny Bronco not working came to a head one hot and humid day. Cid’s boyfriend was feeling way under the weather and was resting in their room, one top of everything else that went wrong that day, he worried about him very much. He was sleeping when Cid was trying to make him tea.
“Goddammit Shera! You’re so f***ing slow! Get the goddamn tea!”
“Sydney.”
“What?!” He turned around to see his boyfriend all disheveled; his long, raven hair all mussed, and his crimson eyes in tired slits. What was really funny was that he wore Hello Kitty slippers along with black pajama pants and a white t-shirt.
“Shit, I’m sorry babe.”
“Don’t call me that.”
“Huh?”
“I do not want my name, or any other pet name, used in a sentence with foul language as that.”
“I’m sorry.”
“As well you should be,” he said while walking to the refrigerator. As bent over to get a drink, Cid couldn’t help staring.
“Cid? Cid? Have you been listening?”
“Huh?”
He sighed. “I don’t want you to speak like that anymore, love. You are a really intelligent man, you should start sounding like one.”
“I guess you’re right.”
“I don’t mean to nag, but could you also… uh…”
“What babe?”
Vincent curled a lock of hair around his human finger and smiled innocently, “Could you also stop smoking?”
“What?”
“Well,” he looked down at the ground, “I don’t want to lose you too soon. If you got lung cancer… Well…”
“Alright.”
Vincent quickly looked up, “Huh?”
“I’ll do it. I’ll stop smoking.”
“Cid you don’t… uh…”
He wrapped his arms around his slim waist, “You look just too cute to deny, baby.”

Cid stopped typing and scrubbed his face with his hands. He looked at his hands to find tears. He hoped it wouldn’t be like this, Nanaki said it would make him feel better, but it was so hard for him to write what was next.

Cloud had heard from a reliable source that there was a way to bring Aeris back, and much to Tifa’s dismay, he decided to go back to the Ancient City to do just that. Since the monsters became more powerful around the Ancient City, he had to drag Vincent and Cid along with him. Everything was going fine until they found themselves being tracked by the seemingly undying Turks. They were in front of the new temple that arose from the earth, when they were surrounded.
“Cid! Cloud! Just go, I can handle them!” He screamed. Cid walked up to him and kissed him, “I’ll be back.”
“I know you will.”
When they finally came out, the Turks seemed to be gone. Vincent turned around and smiled at Aeris and Cid. He didn’t see Reno behind him holding a three bladed dagger.
If Vincent hadn’t have turned around, he would have been fine.
“No!” Cid screamed.
“Oh God!” said Aeris, her hand over her heart.
Reno smiled demonically and turned the blade with a sickening flick of his wrist. Aeris closed her eyes at the sound of flesh and soft organs tearing. She could feel his pain, her just being awakened and all. Vincent turned to Cid, holding his wound and a slight trickle of blood dripping from a corner of his mouth. He slowly fell to his knees as Cid ran up and held him, “Vince, no. Stay with me. Don’t-“ He turned to Aeris as Vincent could only make a gurgling sound, “Do something! Please!”
Aeris shook her head, pain etched all over her face, “There’s nothing I can do. I’m sorry.”
Cid let out a wail that could rival and injured animal’s. Vincent touched Cid’s cheek with a bloodied hand, “I… I’ll…”
“Ssh. Don’t speak, save your strength.”
“I’ll c-come back t-to you Sydney. I love you.” He gasped and his eyes closed for the last time. Cid gave him a soft kiss on his parted lips. He cradled Vincent’s limp body and keened to himself. He didn’t feel himself carrying Vincent’s body onto the Highwind, or hear the group whisper their condolences to him at Vincent’s funeral. He couldn’t sit through any of the eulogies, or see his sweet Vincent’s frozen face, forever in the position. He couldn’t take it, Vincent spent thirty years in a coffin, now he had to spend eternity in a long wooden box.

Cid couldn’t take it anymore, no matter what anybody said, he had to go see Vincent’s grave again. He stopped going there after the first couple months, Cloud and the gang put a stop to that, saying, “Its not good for you to do this to yourself. Vincent wouldn’t want you to pine away for him like he did with Lucrecia.”
It doesn’t matter anymore, he thought. Without him, I can’t live, breathe, or even think. He made me feel alive. Cid sighed as he walked to the cemetery. Somehow, whenever he was at Vincent’s grave, it didn’t feel like he was dead. He knew that if he told the rest of the gang that, they would lock him in the nut house.
He stopped at the stone marker and wiped away the climbing ivy that covered the words.

Vincent Marion Valentine
Born: October 13
Died: January 12
Beloved friend, brother, and husband
May you rest in peace.

Tears trekked down his face and he wiped them away angrily. Vincent would and always had, hated it that he was crying over him, so he gave the stone a watery smile, “Hey babe. Its me, Cid, but you already knew that huh?”

It was their wedding day, they were all outside in the forest, in front of their new home beside Kalm. It was warm, and a slight breeze wafted through the air. Vincent and Cid stood at the altar, Vincent was beaming at the smiling Cid.
“If there is any just cause in which these two shall not be wed, speak now or forever hold your peace,” pronounced Reeve. There was a tense silence as they waited for anyone to say anything.
You know, if anyone so much as dare say anything, I’ll shoot them, said Vincent in Cid’s mind. He learned a little while ago, that he got telepathy from the Jenova cells in his body. He created a telepathic link with Cid when they finally told each other of their feeling for one another.
Yeah, I know. But no matter what happens, I’ll always love you. Come what may.
Vincent sent him Feeling of love and warmth into his mind, Come what may, I’ll always love you. And I will come back to you.
What do you mean?
Nothing. Today is suppose to be a happy day for us. We are getting married.
“I pronounce you… uh… married.” Reeve’s face got beet red as Vincent and Cid kissed passionately as the crowd cheered behind them. Reeve rolled his eyes after a couple of minutes, “Cid, I think Vincent needs to breathe. You’ll be able to do plenty of that on your guy’s honeymoon. Uh… Guys?”

Cid sighed, “I didn’t know what you meant by that then, but now I realize. I’m sorry I couldn’t save you.” He chocked up a little, but calmed down. He looked back at the tombstone, “I love you. Always have, always will.” He stood up and set the scarlet rose on the grave.
~ ……~……~

Cid layed down on Vincent’s side of their bed and looked to the side table, to what he wrote on his laptop. He closed his eyes when he felt the hot sting of tears. Suddenly, he felt the bed shift a little, as if someone was laying down.
God, don’t do this to me. His shoulders shook a little as a sob escaped his chest. He felt an arm wrap around his waist and tears streaked down his face, he was almost going to bolt from the bed.
He felt the bed shift, “I told you I’ll come back to you.”
Cid rolled over to see Vincent smiling at him softly, “I love you.” He said softly.
Tears started coming in earnest, but Cid sniffed and pulled him into his arms tightly, “God, I’ve missed you.”
“I missed you too. That’s why I came back. Do you want to know what the Lifestream looks like?”
Cid cupped the back of Vincent’s head, “Why? I’m already there.” Then they kissed passionately.
