Darkness in the Valley

Disclaimer: The characters are the property of Square-Enix, not me. I don’t make anything and I don’t mean any offense by borrowing such great characters. They’re just fun to play with.

A/N: This is for my beta, Silent Bystander, who guessed the answer to the Redemption chapter title thing within minutes of me getting it from darksquall. So, I decided to write one for both of them. All that was specified was some Squall/Irvine. Yeah, this has that…and some violence. But I’ll also issue a warning to get the Kleenex ready now. You need to have read Teasing or else this won’t make sense.

[Irvine]
I miss him. Sweet Hyne, I miss him. But I didn’t have a choice – I had to leave or else I would’ve gone fucking nuts.

Esthar ain’t too bad. Least I can flirt with whoever the hell I want without being known for my reputation. Nope, I’m just known as “one of those SeeDs who killed Ultimecia”, and I get all the free drinks I want when I mention that at a bar.

Everyone in Garden would pass out from shock if they knew I hadn’t slept with any of them, though. I don’t want anyone other than Squall. Hell, the one time I tried fucking someone I picked up at a club, I couldn’t even get hard.

Once in a while, I think about goin’ back, not to be a SeeD again, but to just look at him and see if he’s still lying to himself. After the past few months, I think he would’ve realized just how serious my intentions to stay away are. But I still think about it. Fuck, I dream about it most every night these days.

What would he do if I went back – let me back in or just tell me that I’m out for good now that I resigned? Doubt that second one since he’s at least offering to take Seifer back if he ever shows his face. Speaking of Seifer, I almost think I saw him the other day while walkin’ around town. Just caught a peek of a white trenchcoat with weird red crosses on the arms, but that’s enough proof for me.

Gettin’ kinda dark now, all the stars are comin’ out and shining in the black sky. Hard to see them sometimes when I’m actually in Esthar. Now, I’m in Fisherman’s Horizon, so I can see them all nice and clear. Almost looks like there’s one I never saw before. Weird. Been spending a lot of time lookin’ up at the stars since I left Garden, so I kinda have the patterns down.

Not sure how long I sit there, just looking at the sky and the ocean and hearing the night around me, but I do know that something’s up when I hear someone behind me. Slow, heavy, deliberate steps crunching on gravel. And I’m not armed ‘cause they don’t like me carrying Exeter around this town. Wonderful. Just fucking wonderful.

I stand up and turn around smoothly, one eye catching the glint of metal as a small nearby light reflects off it. A gunblade? Okay, that means it’s one of two people and the shadowy figure is too tall to be Squall.

“How’s it been, Seifer?” I ask nervously, my eyes focused on his drawn weapon and not his face. Don’t think I wanna see the look on his face.

“Don’t bullshit me with small talk, Kinneas,” he nearly growls before his other hand reaches out and grabs me by the hair.

Fuck, that hurts! I’m pretty much defenseless without a gun in my hand, so all I can do is punch at his arm pitifully as he drags me behind some buildings, back where nobody will be able to see what he might be planning to do. This can’t be good. Oh fuck, oh fuck. Hyne help me, I don’t wanna get raped or beat up. I haven’t done anything to him to deserve this.

His eyes, filled with anger and something like pain, meet mine as he growls again and backhands me. “Do you have any idea what I’ve become because of you and everyone else in SeeD, huh? I’m the most feared and hated person alive when all I ever wanted was a little fucking respect for my skill.

“But who always got what I wanted? Squall. Who helped the Ice Prince beat me and kill Ultimecia? You and Instructor Trepe. So, you’re all gonna pay eventually. Looks like I’m starting with you because you’re all alone and unarmed. Why aren’t you at Garden like the rest of them, anyway?”

Before I can even say that I resigned, he’s punching me in the jaw while all I can do is kick at his kneecaps and try to swing at him. I really should’ve taken up Zell’s offer for basic self-defense training.

“You hit even weaker than Chickie does. Guess you aren’t that great without a gun, are ya?”

I’m already scared, but the fear just gets worse when Seifer pulls back Hyperion and aims it at my throat. That’s one very sharp blade and it won’t take much force for him to cut through pretty much anything he wants to. My mouth’s filling with blood and I spit it out at his eyes and take off running, but slip a couple times on the rough ground. Hyne, keep me safe from him. I promise I’ll go back to Squall after this….

His footsteps are loud and heavy behind me as I slip into a thin space between two houses and step on something that turns out to be a cat’s tail. Fuck, the cat’s making noise and now Seifer knows where I am. One gloved hand reaches for me, grabs my jacket, and yanks me out into the street. Yes, there’s a light coming on in one of the houses now. I hope the person just calls for help and doesn’t try to take Seifer on personally.

Stumbling and landing on my knees in front of him, tears stream down my face for a moment before I look up, swallowing loudly at the sheer rage I see. He didn’t even look this scary when he was attacking all of us to keep that crazy bitch safe.

“Please, Seifer, don’t….” I hear myself pleading when cold steel presses against my back, digging through my jacket and shirt to rest against my skin. “I was just doing what I was told to do….”

He snorts and kicks me in the face hard enough so that I can hear something crack and it feels like the whole left side was set on fire. “That’s exactly the problem. You were just being a mindless fuck and doing what Cid and Squally told ya without even thinking about it for yourself. Then again, most of SeeD is like that. It makes me glad I never passed the field test.”

Eerie silence surrounds me for what can’t be longer than a few seconds before I hear the sound of clothes rustling and white-hot pain stabs through my back at first, then the rest of my lower body. My legs give out and I fall onto my already-sore face, warm, sticky blood oozing over me while I cry out in pain and try to drag myself towards the house with its light on. There’s sure to be something there to help me, right?

Fuck, I can’t even move without another flare-up of pain, but I know I have to keep moving. I have a chance if I keep moving. But my heart’s racing and in my gut I know that I’m bleeding to death. No, I can’t die. I’m only 18 and I haven’t done anything wrong. Don’t let me go out like this, Hyne.

Please…don’t let me die before my time….

The house is close now, just a few more feet. I can hear voices inside and someone opening the front door. But I can’t see anyone there, it’s all fuzzy now and I’m getting cold. So cold and now it’s all dark around me….

Squall stands there and glares down at me as I sit in front of his desk, but there’s a lot more than anger in his eyes. Relief, maybe?

“I had the feeling you’d be back. But I didn’t think it would take this long for you to realize where your home is,” he says softly before sighing and reaching down to pull me against him, them push me against his desk, whispering, “Let’s just skip right ahead to the important stuff. I’m sorry I didn’t follow you and I’m sorry I lied.”

His lips press against mine then and I groan while returning it just as roughly and eagerly. Those two words are all I ever wanted to hear from him, but getting this as well makes it even better ‘cause it means that things should go back to better than how they were before I decided that I had to go and fall for the Ice Prince.

Squall tastes good and cold, but his back is warm as my hands push his jacket away and slide up under his shirt, nails digging in just a little to make him hiss and rock against me so that I can feel how hard he already is. I’m just as aroused and eager to do more than kissing, but this isn’t only about me right now. Squall started it, so he can take charge for the time being.

Our lips only part long enough to catch a quick breath before I feel leather gloves tugging at the zipper of my pants and then one wrapping around my cock while the other keeps pulling my jeans down. I can only lean my head back and whimper softly, my hips rocking up into his touch. I want this and I know he wants it, so I don’t think there’s much time for foreplay. Maybe another time, we can go slowly.

My legs wrap around his waist while I fumble with his belts and let them fall to the floor, then quickly pull those leather pants off his ass. The hand not stroking me pushes me to lie on his desk, papers scattering all over the floor, but I don’t do anything other than pant as he tugs off one glove, briefly sucks on his fingers, and presses them into me hard and fast.

It hurts, but it’s bearable only because this is Squall doing this to me. Squall, the man I love and who I know has at least some kind of feelings of me. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t be doing this to me right now. He presses against my prostate and makes me cry out and rock my hips into that touch, pouting as his fingers tug out.

But it’s worth it to feel his cock inside me a moment later, stretching me and filling me up more with every rock of his hips and every sound I hear coming from his lips. My mind is spinning and I don’t want to be doing anything other than this, rocking against him and yelping every time he hits that spot inside me. Hyne, I’m already close because it’s been months without him or anyone else and when he fists my cock in time with his thrusts, I arch my back and scream his name, tightening around him while warmth floods my insides and all I can see is that look on his face of contentment.

[Squall]
“The mayor of FH called and requested our immediate assistance,” I hear as soon as I get into the office. Whatever it’s for has to be important. For one, they don’t like us too much. And it also happens to be the middle of the night. “Did he say what the problem was, Quistis?”

She nods slowly before picking up a piece of paper and reading from it. “They have Seifer and want us to take him somewhere before he hurts anyone else. We were also asked to help them with cleanup and removal of a body.”

I arch a brow both at that and the sadness in her voice. “Can’t they take care of that themselves?”

For a long moment, she doesn’t say or anything, but then motions for me to have a seat. I do, then look at her and wait for her to speak.

“The body is Irvine’s.”
