Seifer looked down at brunette curled across his chest. He hated having to hide Squall away from the world. But it was necessary what with Ultimecia’s descendant searching for a knight. She wouldn’t take Seifer, wasn’t willing to fight to control him as Ultimecia had had to do. He tenderly kissed Squall’s forehead, trying to gently wake the brunette.

“Seifer?” Squall’s voice was fogged with sleep. Seifer smiled and ran a gentle hand through the brunette locks.

“I’m here. I’ve got to go. Promise not to touch your gunblade or Shiva’s crystal?”

“Mmm promise. When will you be back?”

“Sometime this week kitten. No stepping outside at all. There’s enough food for two weeks stored in the cellar. You can work out down there, but you mustn’t use Lion Heart. Its signal is too distinctive. One of my lower Hyperion’s is down there you can train with her. Love you kitten.”

“Love you too.” As Squall was muttering it to Seifer, Seifer slipped from the bed and started to dress himself. He sank back down beside Squall to lace his boots before swinging his trademark trench coat around his shoulders. A pounding on the door disrupted the silence. Seifer bent to sweep a gentle kiss across Squall’s lips.

“Love you. That’ll be Irvine come to pick me up. I’ll talk about letting you into the defence with Irvine and the others. Laguna is the main hold up, he doesn’t want to risk you getting injured and he can sway so many of the board.” Squall made a soft sound of assent as he drifted off to sleep again.

When the war is over
Got to get away
Pack my bag to no place
In no time no day
You and I we used each other's shoulder
Still so young but somehow so much older
How can I go home and not get blown away

Seifer stood proud, Hyperion resting on his shoulder as he surveyed the battlefield. A blue blade pulsed off to his right and he spotted Squall killing those still alive and healing their wounded. The sorceress had fled under the dual onslaught of Squalls army and Seifer’s. It had been a brilliant idea to split the army. The sorceress had assumed that one army, Seifer’s, was the entire army and hadn’t watched too carefully for one coming up behind her. Squalls had had the advantage of surprise when they back attacked her army. Squall and Seifer had met in the middle, gunblades swinging in tandem as the sorceress had fled into time.

“We’ll have to compress time again.” Seifer jumped at the soft voice at his elbow. He looked down at Squall and nodded sadly.

“More going through our pasts and futures. I hate it.” Squall laid a comforting hand on Seifer’s lower arm.

“I’ll be with you this time. Nothing bad will happen. We’ll kick sorceress butt and come back just like we went there, whole.” Squall smiled up at him and rubbed a cheek against his bare upper arm. Seifer smiled and ran a gloved hand over the shining brunette tresses and sighed.

“Come on guys, strategists are waiting for your input up at HQ.” Irvine’s voice broke them apart and Seifer looped an arm around Squall’s waist as they walked off yet another bloody battlefield.

You and I had our sight set on something
Hope this doesn't mean our days are numbered
I got plans for more than a wanted man
All around this chaos and madness
Can't help feeling nothing more than sadness
Only choice to face it the best I can

Time Compression was scary and Seifer woke to find himself crouching on arid red sand. Squall was at his side, Lion Heart out and ready to charge into battle. The army was slowly coming through behind them; the thousand strong army was slowly forming squads behind the three leaders. Irvine was fussily running a silver cloth over Exeter. Hyperion was settled in the dirt before Seifer’s knee, where his hand was supporting his body. He smiled and stood, shaking the sand from Hyperion and resting her against his shoulder, bouncing the weight of her into his shoulder as he surveyed the troops.

“She knows we’re here. We plan accordingly. I assume she’s where Ultimecia was, dead centre of this small island. We march forward, steady jog no faster; GF’s geared and ready, but don’t call until we are within range of her army. Healer squads as every second squad. Squads form up in this pattern, weapon, healer, magic, healer, GF, healer, weapon and so on. Squall, right flank, Irvine left flank. This bitch is mine.” Seifer snarled the words, knowing that they would have to go through Zell, the sorceress’ knight. He would do it himself.

“I’ll take Zell on.” Seifer gripped Hyperion and waved her forward, breaking into a controlled jog. As the army started to move, the sound of booted feet hitting the ground in tandem was the only sound heard. As the entire army got moving it sounded like thunder rolling. Squall jogged at Seifer’s side, Lion Heart held out across his body so that the tip hovered near his left shoulder.

As they jogged steadily, in the distance a black blot steadily grew bigger, showing a large black stone castle. Squall drew in a shocked breath; it was different to Ultimecia’s. The strategists had insisted it would be same and hadn’t given them any plans on finding the sorceress in an unfamiliar castle.

“Don’t worry Squall, I know where she is. Ballroom of the castle, we’ll find her there. Her army is amassing outside now. After the army is defeated we’ll head inside and face her. Squall, you must not lose Eden. Eden is vital.” Seifer looked across at his lover as he signalled a slowing of the pace to a steady slow jog.

“WEAPONS AT THE READY! GF’S UP AND READY TO CAST! ARMYS WILL CONNECT IN 100 SECONDS!” Seifer took the safety off Hyperion and signalled and charge. The armies collided and the war for the future safety of Gaia began.

The armies continued to battle as Seifer charged at his enemies, his gunblade flashing black through the enemies, leaving crimson pools in his wake. Squall was on his right, Lion Heart’s normally bright blue blade crimsony-purple from all the blood running down it. Seifer, Squall and Irvine were through the army and standing at the base of the stairs into the castle.

“Everyone right to go? GF’s healed and ready? Do we need any healing done before we enter?”

“Nope. I’ll be magic and healer, Squall you go GF and Seifer weapon.”

“I’ll do magic too, sometimes they have protect which is a bitch to break through.” Seifer nodded as he spoke and tilted Squall’s head upwards so he could plant a tender kiss on his lips.

“For luck?”

“Lots of luck honey.”

“Love you Kitten… Ok let’s go.” Seifer pushed the doors open and charged in. Ultimecia’s spell that locked their powers away couldn’t work because Seifer wasn’t part of the original team. Seifer lead them straight to the ballroom where she waited for them. Squall gasped at the sight of Zell standing there, waiting for them.

“I’ve got him.” Seifer charged forward to meet Zell, swinging Hyperion up above his head and then down, bringing all his force to bear in the strike. Zell crumpled to the ground, his ribcage open and exposed for all to see. Seifer stepped back, thinking that Zell was finished, but Zell staggered to his feet and charged at Seifer, a knife in his hand. Seifer swung Hyperion out and knocked the blade from his hand as he danced away from Zell’s charge. Seifer sighed and drew himself up for another blow as Zell leapt at him. Seifer swung Hyperion around, parallel to the floor and decapitated Zell. He closed his eyes in pain at seeing a friend felled by his own blade.

“I hate having to kill friends.” Seifer smiled, to show no weakness to the evil sorceress bitch. Squall stepped up to his right side, Lion Heart glowing brightly as the blood had run off the blade. Irvine moved to his left and Seifer sighed. He hated being in the centre.

“Curse you… evil SeeD’s, you have destroyed my wonderful army… you will pay for that… insolent fools!!!”

Squall whispered a single word under his breath,

“Eden.”

And everything faded to white.

Seifer came too and found himself cradling Squall in his arms. As his memory came back he looked over at Irvine, grateful for the help he had been. Eden had utterly annihilated the sorceress and Squall had collapsed from exhaustion at the end of the battle. Irvine had helped him get all of the troops and Squall to the gate. They’d returned to normal time and Laguna had chewed his head off because Squall was still passed out.

“Kitten?”

“Seifer?”

“It’s over Kitten, Eden killed the bitch. You passed out, you should have told me you were so close to exhaustion before we battled her. I love you kitten, don’t ever scare me like that again, Promise?”

“Promise.”
