Chapter 1
=-=
Irvine flopped down on the large couch, pushing his hat over his eyes while his head rested against the armrest. One arm was thrown over the armrest while the other lay limp at his side, legs crossing each other at the ankle. This was the usual way that Irvine Kinneas laid when upon the couch waiting for Selphie.
Hearing the 'whoosh' of the door, he pushed his hat up slightly. A grin plastered his face watching the bubbling woman skip into the quarters. "Hey cutie," he grinned out, pulling her onto his lap when she got close to the couch. The grin only widened at hearing her giggle when she was pushed onto his thighs.
"Hi Irvy!" She said with a bright smile, bouncing slightly on his strong thighs. "I missed you!" Her small hands came up and cupped his slightly stubbled cheeks as she met his lips in a passionate kiss.
Tiny giggles escaped her lips before she pulled back from his lips. "How was you're day, Irvy? She asked, adjusting her position on his lap and biting her lip a bit.
"Same old, same old." He waved his hand in a boring fashion before moving his hat to rest on the small end table. Fingers gently trailed across her thighs then met her smaller hands, entwining together almost immediately. Violet eyes looked up at her, noticing she was biting at her lip.
"Something wrong Selph?" he asked softly, arm folding behind his head as he continued to stare up at her.
A sigh escaped her lips as she moved to lie against his chest and entwined her fingers with his. "Well kinda." She started meekly. "I'm worried about Squall. He's been working non-stop since we've returned from the time compressed realm over a week ago." She said, rubbing the back of his hand with her thumb.
"I've been talking to Quisty and Zell…They've both said that they haven't seen him out of that office for more than a few hours at a time. Zell's suite is right next to Squall's and he hears him. He said its like he tries to sleep, but can't and ends up pacing his quarters, watching TV or just goes training at all hours of the night.
"I saw him today and he looks horrible…I'm afraid he's gonna collapse or get sick…he needs to rest and he can't do it here."
She sat up on his thighs and looked into his violet-blue eyes. "Have you noticed anything strange with him?"
"He just works too damn much. Thinks he can take care of everything by himself without any help and never gives himself time to rest," he growled out. The sniper let out a deep sigh looking up to Selphie.
"We need to do something about this, Selph before he just burns out. A man can't do everything himself." Irvine shook his head, thinking about the commander who held both Selphie and his heart. Their deep bond for each other had begun building during their journey together but it was never truly brought out into the open until just recently. The two were still trying to get Squall to open up more and let those who cared for him in.
Selphie nodded in agreement and thought for a few moments. She reached over his head and snatched his hat, putting it on her head so that she could retrieve the phone. A smile traced her lips as she dialed the extension to Squall's suite.
It rang…
And rang…
Suddenly the phone clicked. "Leave a message." The familiar voice said bluntly and a beep was heard. She clicked the phone off, adjusting his hat on her head before dialing another extension.
"Hello?"
"Hey Zell?"
"Oh, heya Selphie, what's up?"
"I need to ask you a favor. Can you go to your wall and see if you hear anything in Squall's quarters?"
"Yeah, just a second." He said. A shuffling noise was heard for a few moments before he picked up again. "Nope, no sound what-so-ever. He's probably still in his office."
Selphie noticed the concern in his tone. "Thanks Zell. Have a good night!" She heard his reply and hung up the phone.
"Damn…He's in his office again…” She sighed again. "Irvy…I think we should take him on a vacation. I have a class to teach for a few days but after that, I'm free. We need to get him out of here." The green-eyed girl looked down at him.
"Irvy, can you go drag his cute lil butt outta that office? If he gives you a problem, cast sleep on him or something."
"No problemo cutie pie," he replied back softly. Pushing himself up into a sitting position, he stole a kiss from Selphie before he got up from the couch, depositing her upon it. A wink was given to her and then he disappeared through the door, heading straight to the commander's office.

Squall pressed his fingers against his temple once more, a deep sigh leaving his lips. The commander hadn't been able to concentrate for the past ten minutes, his mind not being able to focus on the paperwork. 'Maybe I should get some rest...' he thought to himself, rubbing at his head.
"After I get this work done," he told himself, again ignoring the fact that he was completely exhausted. Taking in a deep breath, he picked up the pen once more and looked over the typed document. He managed to read over it and began to sign the document. However he didn't get to finish. The exhaustion was too much for the gunblade master and he ended up passing out on his desk. One arm was resting on the desk while the other was dangling, the pen now upon the carpeted floor.

Irving turned down the hallway and walked to the last door at the end of the hallway. "Squall?" He called as he knocked on the door. "I know you're in there…"
He knocked once more, this time louder…
No answer
The gunman reached to the door control and it slid open. He entered the darkened office and moved closer to the large desk.
"Shit!" He growled and ran behind the desk and placed his fingers on the unconscious man's neck, feeling his slightly weakened pulse beneath his fingers. "Squall, SQUALL!" He called shaking the man, but the man was out.
He reached over to the phone and dialed his suite. "Sefie, call Dr. K and meet me in the infirmary, Squall's unconscious." He said before hanging up the phone. He carefully pushed the commander back in his chair before lifting the man in his arms.
"Squall…you can't keep doing this to yourself…” He said as he left the office with the Balamb garden commander securely held against his chest as he jogged through the corridors.

"Lie him on the bed…” Dr. Kadowaki said as her assistant began gathering various items.
Irvine did as told before backing away and pulling Selphie into his arms tightly as they watched the doctor work.
Blood was drawn and IV's were hooked up to the man along with a heart monitor, just in case. Dr. Kadowaki gave instructions to her assistant before disappearing into the back room. The sniper carried a chair over near their friend's bed and sat, pulling the pajama clad girl into his arms.
The doctor reappeared a thirty minutes later with papers in her hand. "Irvine, Selphie…thanks for bringing him in. I've been trying to get him in for an appointment, but you know how stubborn he can be sometimes." Dr. K said, gaining a nod from them both.
"First off, he's going to be okay. Squall was severely dehydrated and he has some nutritional deficiencies that need to be addressed. On top of this all, he's suffering from exhaustion. As of right now, he is officially off duty and will not return until I tell him he can. The headmaster is on his way down to sign the paperwork. What this man needs is a vacation…" She said.
Irvine looked met Selphie's eyes before turning back to the doctor. "We were jus' talkin' about dragging him outta here for a vacation and we still intend to do so."
The doctor nodded. "I'm going to keep him sedated for the night, he needs the rest. You're welcome to stay here or return to your quarters. There's a room in the back if you want to use it."
"Thanks Doc." He said and led Selphie to the back room. Soon after they laid down and making sure that someone would wake them when he regained consciousness, the fell asleep in each others arm."
