A/N: The pairing will be a Sephiroth/Tifa one. It's one I've wanted to do for some time but I usually write in the anime section. This is my first try at a FF fic. So please bear with me, I have played the game a few times and own the movie. I will try to keep everyone in character as best as possible. I want it to be a Seph/Tifa pairing. To keep him in character, there will be some angst and rape in the beginning, sorry if this offends anyone. But he's not a nice guy and it would take A LOT to change him, so this might be a good size fic to make it believable. Even with all that said, I can't picture him ever being romantic or very nice. So, it won't happen here. You can pluck a rooster's feathers but it's still going to crow. Now with that said any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Chapter One
With a ragged breath, Cloud jerked up out of the bed. The pale white sheets clung to the partially exposed thighs. The length was wrapped around his calves in desperation. Unwinding the cover, he got upon shaky legs. The smallest amount of light shone through the open window. The moon was high in the sky, watching over them. Blonde hair clung to his drenched features. Pain lingered up his arm, the muscle tense. It was just another nightmare, it wasn’t real. Even as he spoke the words his heart denied it.
“Everything is going to be okay.” The words fell from his lips, mocking the last message she’d given him. Right, because he wasn’t alone now. He had his friends and family behind him, supporting everything he did. Even if they were living their own lives, they would be there if needed. Barrett, Cid, Vincent, Yuffie, Red, Cait Sith and Tifa. All of them would be there, except her. Was forgiveness enough to make the pain go away? He went for her that day but was it really enough? Enough to move on and be happy? Would his heart ever get over the flower girl that had captured it so completely? He missed her everyday that drug past. Was that why he ran away from it all? He was trying to be a family with the others. A part of him still held onto that memory. ‘Us or a memory,’ Tifa’s words weighed heavily on his shoulders.
Kadaj was no longer a threat to them. All should be peaceful except for minor disturbances. Was he willing to settle down? His conscious was telling him it was time but something was plaguing him. He felt like bringing it up to the others but didn’t want them to worry; about him. They’d most likely see it as a sign of him not being able to let go of the past. The past would always be there, it wasn’t ever going to leave. The past made him who he was, right. If he let go of the past then it also meant letting go of who he was. While he was prepared for anything that arose, he was afraid.
In that moment when Kadaj found his reunion and changed into Sephiroth, he saw something there. While fighting his mind and heart had been on defeating the man. To stop the chaos before it began, finding the strength he needed from his friends. The evil bastard had asked him what he treasured the most, so he could take it away. He wanted the pleasure of taking it from him. But Cloud treasured all those around him, that’s what gave him the strength to go on.
Questions boggled his mind, with no answers forthcoming. Even with the cells how did Sephiroth manage to return? Even if Kadaj managed to acquire the body, what about the soul. The man that had taken over Kadaj was no other than the original Sephiroth. The man had known exactly who he was, leaving no doubt. Where had the memories, the hate, the bloodlust and the soul come from? He couldn’t believe that it had all been contained in the cells. It shouldn’t have been no more than Jenova’s head. Yet it was like with that boost, Sephiroth had been able to force his entire existence into that borrowed body.
Shouldn’t all that been destroyed when he died? Didn’t all things return to the life stream when they died? Why hadn’t the man gone? Was it because of what he was? Which worried him to no end. The knowledge that the man wasn’t really gone. ‘I’ll never be a memory.’ Why had he said so? In that moment before his second defeat he’d seemed happy, not caring. Cloud wondered what he’d been thinking? What final thought had passed through that twisted mind? Would the man find a way to return?
~~~~Two Weeks Later~~~~
“Strife delivery service,” Tifa answered the phone on the third ring. Reno’s voice came over the wire, in high spirits as usual. She listened intently to what the redhead had to say. Finding a pen discarded on the desk she quickly jotted down the address without pause. Another job in which to keep Cloud away. The man had only taken one day off since the defeat of Kadaj. That had been Yuffie’s idea. The day had been pleasant and ended too quickly. He still lived in the church but came to visit them often. Times like these she felt like a secretary except she wasn’t getting paid. She had her bar to run. It had been reconstructed to fit her needs. “Okay, I’ll tell him.”
“Another day,” she hung up the phone without looking up. At least he answered his phone now. It meant she’d be able to hear his voice for a few minutes. As much as she loved the man it was quickly becoming old. She’d always be at his side, no matter what. Was it the real Cloud from her childhood? He didn’t seem to think so, not with everything that happened. A puppet? No, he was anything but that. As far as she was concerned he was her Cloud.
They were a family now, it was enough. Marlene was outside playing with Denzel when the phone rang again. Wiping her hand on the rag, she groaned. It was most likely Rude this time, to see if she’d delivered the message. The two didn’t have any patience. She doubted Cloud would accept it anyways. Northern Crater was the last place he’d want to go. What was Shinra doing out there again? The last time they’d found Jenova’s head and caused a lot of trouble. There shouldn’t be anything there now to find. When would the company leave well enough alone?
She hoped to start a life with Cloud. It might not be the one she’d originally hoped for. The man had fallen in love with another woman. After Aeris’ death she thought to compete, to win him back. Now that was nothing but a forgotten dream. She would let him keep his love for the dead woman. As long as he didn’t shut her out on a friendly level. Let him love Aeris, the girl had earned it. It was enough that he was there with her and trying. Their relationship would never be on the romantic level, or sexual but being a family was enough. “Str...”
“Tifa? It’s Tseng.” She gripped the receiver and waited. Shinra again, couldn’t they do anything on their own? “We need you to contact Cloud as soon as possible. The President wanted to finish excavating the Crater to finish it all up. We were almost done, reaching the core. We found something, we thought Cloud might want to be here when we extract it.”
She took a deep breath and sighed. What were they up to now? This couldn’t be good, not if they wanted Cloud there. Did they find another piece of Jenova? Is that why Tseng sounded worried and afraid? Would another gang of idiots show up trying to start trouble? “Very well, but you will have to tell me what it is. Cloud will want to know before heading up there at the last moment. You know how he feels about it. Besides what could possibly be worse than Jenova’s head?”
“Sephiroth, we found his body.” The phone slipped from her numb fingers. The clatter sounded across the empty room. It wasn’t possible, the man was dead. Cloud had killed him, he was gone. How could his body still be intact? Running down the stairs she found her cell phone and dialed Cloud’s number with trembling fingers. The man picked up on the second ring, her voice shook as she relayed the message.
“Okay, I’ll call the others. I’ll see you when you get here.” She tried to still the rapid beating of her heart. This couldn’t be happening now. The first person she rang was Cid, the man swore for a few minutes before agreeing to pick them up soon. All the other members were informed within minutes and made plans to arrive. What was waiting for them at the Northern Crater. Was it really Sephiroth or just an empty shell?
