Chapter 1
Lost

Reno stood by the helicopter, lightly tapping his EMR on his shoulder, glancing around the area. He hated these jobs, having to babysit the Shinra scientists as they got their damn samples. Just minutes before leaving for the day, Rufus ordered him to fly the scientists, or eggheads, as Reno liked to call them, near Fort Condor, where they had recently discovered a strange new energy source.

All he wanted to be doing right now was tossing back some drinks, and getting a piece of ass from some hottie. Instead, he was stuck out here, watching the eggheads collect their precious rock samples.

"Are you fellas gonna be done anytime soon?" One of the eggheads looked at Reno nervously, giving him a half hearted smile.

"Almost."

"Just hurry it up, will ya. It's the weekend and I want to start it proper by getting laid, and that ain't happenin here."

"Yes, Sir. Sorry."

"Yeah, yeah. Just get this done," he said, wandering away from the fidgeting man. He shook his head in agitation. He was hoping to get back to headquarters before dark, but it didn't look like that was gonna happen either. 'Damn eggheads,' he thought, kicking a few stones as he walked. He didn't wander too far, just enough to get away from the three lab rats, another favorite name he had for them.

He leaned against a large boulder, continuing to scan the area, keeping his eyes peeled for any wandering creatures. So intent on watching out for the scientists, he didn't notice the boulder had started to put out a low glowing light. It wasn't until he felt a strange tingling across his back that he finally realized something wasn't right.

"Sir, move away from that boulder!" one of the men shouted before a bright flash of light surrounded him.

"What the fuck?!" he yelled and tried to move, but too late. He was being held back by some unknown force, and before he could say anything else he was falling through darkness, his screams following him.

Reno's eyes snapped open, sitting up groggily from the rocky ground he was laying on. He took in the surrounding area and was immediately uneasy. This definitely wasn't where he should be. He was in what appeared to be a cave, and it was stifling hot.

The wall he was next to was giving off a soft glow and he nearly touched it, but backed up instead. 'Not a good idea. Better try to figure out where the hell I am first.' He dusted himself off, looking around the large cave. He wasn't wounded, other than a knot on the back of his head. 'Must of hit it on the ground,' he thought, touching it with a hiss of pain.

"Shit!" he snapped, looking for an exit. Thankfully, he still had his EMR. This cave didn't seem too safe. 'When was any cave safe,' he thought, chuckling nervously. He cautiously walked on, seeing the source of the heat. Lava. 'Beautiful, just beautiful. Rufus better be giving me a big raise after this.'

He made a mental map in his head, in case he had to come back here. 'Better safe than sorry.' An important skill for a Turk to have was knowing your surroundings. 'A lot of fucking good that's doing me now. I've never seen this place before!' Nothing about it was familiar, and his uneasiness grew.

"Hallelujah!" the redheaded Turk shouted, seeing what looked like the exit to this steaming nightmare. He quickened his pace, moving toward the glorious light, but stopped in his tracks when he heard a strange noise behind him. He clutched his EMR and spun to face his stalker. His eyes took in the strange winged creature, just as it swooped down on him to attack. He smoothly ducked, bringing up his weapon to strike. The creature screamed as an electric current ran through its body. Reno just managed to roll out of the way as it fell dead to the ground.

"Never sneak up on a Turk, fucker!" He examined the creature, not recognizing it. He'd never seen anything like it before. "Where the fuck am I?"

He managed to make it to the exit without another surprise attack, and sighed with relief to be out of the heat. His relief was short lived, not recognizing the area he was in. He saw something off in the distance, maybe a building. He couldn't really tell from where he was standing.

"Looks like I have a hike ahead of me," he said, disgusted with this whole situation. Resting his EMR on his shoulder, he started his trek toward an unknown destination.
