Looking into the clock above the window Rikku sighed; he was late. It wasn’t like her husband to be late. She looked at the quietly sleeping figure on the couch. Saiyuki was so cute when he was asleep. Once again she turned her attention to the clock. “22:00…He’s an hour late…”
Then finally the door opened and Sephiroth walked in. “Gomen nasai Rikku…it just took me longer to leave Shin-Ra—”
Rikku put her arms around Sephiroth and hugged him tightly. “It’s ok. You don’t need to explain. Although in the morning you do owe your son an apology, he was up all night waiting for you…he hasn’t seen you since before you left at the start of the war. He was so exited that when the doorbell rang he flew off the couch before I could even set down the dish I was washing and when he answered it and found out it was Barret he started crying. The funny part was when Barret got all emotional when he didn’t know why he made Saiyuki cry.”
Sephiroth gave Rikku a confused look. “Barret was here?”
Rikku nodded walking over to Saiyuki picking him up. “He wants me to join AVALANCHE.”
Walking up the stares Rikku put Saiyuki in his room then walked down to Sephiroth. Sephiroth then spoke up. “But…you turned him down, right?”
Rikku sighed. “Oac, E tet.” She said.
Having known Rikku for so many years Sephiroth came to learn the Al Bhed language quite fluently. Nodding Sephiroth looked at the clock. “So, is it too late to have dinner, or did you already eat?”
Rikku smiled. “I made something very special for you it’s my trademark dish. It’s got: belgamat dinhib fedr paav, lraaca, belgamat wilehe, lrelgah, yht mudc uv udran jekkeac, ymm syta fedr so cbaleym rud cyila. So what do you think?”
Sephiroth smiled and nodded. “Boy you Al Bhed sure eat healthy. And yes, it sounds very good.”
In seconds Rikku was in the kitchen heating up what was left of dinner. When it was heated she grabbed two plates and set them down on the table filling them up with her special dish she so prided. “I hope you enjoy it. Saiyuki loved it! He ate so much! He’s just like you.” Rikku said as she sat down.
Sephiroth just laughed. “That’s wonderful. Oh and speaking of news, If all goes well when the new president takes command I may get promoted from class first commander to general.”
Rikku’s smile quickly turned into a frown. “Oh…but…that means you will be spending even less time with us, you know…” she started to cry.
Not being able to stand seeing his love cry Sephiroth got up and hugged the crying Al Bhed. “Ii, actually it means I will be spending more time with the both of you. You see, I will have more room and authority to say when I can get breaks, so I will take every chance I can to see you and be home as long as I want.”
Sephiroth’s words comforted Rikku greatly. She stopped crying and looked up. “I…I have…something to say to that…you know.” She leaned close to Sephiroth and whispered something in his ear.
Sephiroth’s face lit up and he hugged Rikku. “Oh, Rikku that’s wonderful news!”
Rikku blushed. “I just found out today actually…” She sat up and collected the empty plates bringing them to the dishwasher.
As Sephiroth climbed the stares and entered the bedroom the doorbell rang. Sephiroth didn’t hear it but Rikku did. “Just a minute!” she called.
Putting on the dishwasher Rikku walked to the door and opened it. “Koban wa, Rikku!” Cloud said as the door opened.
"Kuut hekrd is more like it! Do you know what time it is Cloud-gih!?” She said angrily.
Frowning Cloud looked down. “Gomen nasai. But we need to talk.” He said.
Rikku gave Cloud a confused look. “About what?”
“I want you to join AVALANCHE.”
Rikku laughed. “Barret told me the same thing, but I turned his offer down. So, no, I’m not joining.”
Cloud grew desperate now. “Let me explain. The new president is insane. He’s been experimenting on SOLDIER members with Mako and he is—”
Rikku cut Cloud off mid-rant. “Listen, I don’t care about any of that, you know. Let Barret and his buddies deal with what they believe, Ok?”
Fine but if commander Sephiroth is—” Cloud was once again cut off but this time it was by Sephiroth’s nodachi being held up to his throat.
Glairing coldly at Cloud Sephiroth said: “That information is to be kept confidential, SOLDIER class 1st. Do you want to die?”
Rikku pushed the blade down. “Boys, no, don’t do this. I don’t want to see you get hurt.”
Sephiroth withdrew the blade putting it back in the sheath turning toward the stares and silently climbing them to the bedroom.
Rikku looked at Cloud. “I think you should leave, we can talk in the morning.”
Cloud nodded and turned as Rikku shut the door. Turning she walked up the stares to the bedroom. She opened the door and found Sephiroth waiting sitting on the bed. “So…what was Cloud trying to say about you Sephiroth?” she asked.
Shaking his head he looked to the side. “It’s nothing. Don’t worry about it.”
Rikku couldn’t help but become even more worried. He never kept anything form her, so why would he now? Rikku sat down next to Sephiroth and hugged him. “Please tell me.” she urged, trying her best to convince him to speak.
She knew he would crack; sooner or later he would crack and tell her what Cloud was talking about. “Alright…fine if you want to know so badly than fine I’ll tell you. They…that is to say Hojo, is doing Mako experiments and I…am a part of it. They are injecting me with Mako to make the ultimate SOLDIER.” he said looking away from Rikku.
Rikku was shocked! She couldn’t believe what she was hearing! “Is…is this true!?” she gasped looking at Sephiroth.
Sephiroth nodded. But you aren’t supposed to know this. I could get kicked out of SOLDIER. This information is confidential and is to say inside this house understand?”
Rikku nodded. “B–But why!? Why are you a part of something so horrid and…and—” Rikku was cut off by Sephiroth placing his lips softly on hers and drowning her sorrows in a loving kiss.
After a moment they parted and Rikku looked down. “Hey…it’s alright. I am going to be fine; it’s nothing serious that they’re doing to me.” Sephiroth said lifting Rikku’s chin with his hand then wiping her tears away.
There was silence for a moment until Saiyuki ran into the room and jumped on top of Sephiroth. “Daddy!! Yay! Your home!” he cried happily hugging Sephiroth’s neck.
Sephiroth took Saiyuki into his arms. “I thought you were asleep little guy. What made you wake up?”
Saiyuki pointed outside. “Mommy talking to uncle Cloud.” Sephiroth looked at Rikku a worried look crossed his features.
Saiyuki hugged Sephiroth once more before going to sleep in his arms. “Let me go put him to bed.” Sephiroth said quietly turning and making his way to Saiyuki’s bedroom.
After placing his son down to sleep Sephiroth sat down on his bed and laid his head down on Rikku’s lap. “I am sorry for keeping this form you.” He said closing his eyes.
“It’s alright. I think I know why you kept it from me.” Rikku said running her fingers through Sephiroth’s long platinum hair.
“Oh really now…so why do you think I kept it from you? Sephiroth replied.
“Because, you wanted to keep me from worrying about you because you knew I would want you to quit SOLDIER.”
Sephiroth opened his eyes and looked up at Rikku’s sad face. “Do you want me to quit?” he asked.
Rikku sighed, this was a tough one how could she tell him what she truly felt without hurting him? “Well…to tell you the truth…yes…”
Sephiroth feared Rikku would say this so he sat up and hugged her. “If you truly want it, I will leave.”
Rikku closed her eyes and began to cry upsetting Sephiroth so wiping her tears away he gave her a deep passionate kiss. After the kiss Rikku still cried. “I…I can’t help it…I love you and I want you to be happy but you also want me to be happy too right? But what makes me happy will make you unhappy!”
Sephiroth shook his head “Ii, ii Rikku. I really don’t care about SOLDIER…I only care about you and Saiyuki. And I will leave SOLDIER, for you…”
Rikku smiled. “Oh, thank you Sephiroth!” she said wrapping her arms around him.
Yawning Rikku stood up and made her way to the closet. “Well I’m tiered how about you?”
Sephiroth nodded as he began unbuttoning and removing his shirt. Rikku quickly got changed and got into bed just as Sephiroth did.
