Death of a Lion

Death of a Lion

Warnings~ Squall torture (I know, I know, bad Me.), Yaoi, angst. My first death fic… ;_;
Stormy blue eyes scanned the forest after their owner killed yet another monster, looking for another target to distract himself with.
Don’t think; just kill all the targets… Forget your pain. If only for a little while…
A behemoth spotted the lithe gunblader and roared, challenging the human that interfered with its rounds. The glowing gunblade was lifted readily, waiting for the large beast to charge. It snarled and slashed at the fragile body, grazing large claws over the pale skin just barely, bringing blood. Squall winced a little as the red seeped into his sweat soaked white tank top. His limit break seized him and he ran towards the beast, releasing a series of fatal blows until the carcass fell to the grass. The brunette inspected his wound, realizing that he didn’t have anymore Potions to heal himself.
It doesn’t matter… Just keep fighting. Keep yourself busy. Try not to think…
Squall heaved a breath as he looked around his surroundings again for more monsters, his pale eyes troubled and pain.
Don’t think.Don’tthinkdon’tthinkabouthimkeepfightingkeeprunning….
A strangled sound escaped the war hero’s throat as he felt his sanity slipping just a bit, his mind trying to adopt a mantra to keep unwanted, painful thoughts away, but it was failing. Lionheart dropped to the ground as Squall leaned against a tree and slid down it, his grey-blue eyes adopting a haunted look.
I should’ve known… Should’ve noticed it… Seifer… I’m so sorry…
An unfamiliar sting welled in his eyes and tears seeped down the youth’s dirty cheeks. He and Seifer had been so happy. Too bad he hadn’t remembered it because of the GFs. Now that he didn’t need them, he remembered.
He loved me… We were lovers. And now, he’s gone… He’s dead…
Choked sobs slipped unbidden from the brunette’s lips as he gave into his grief, unaware of the dangers approaching him. Something hard bashed into the back of Squall’s head and his lithe body fell forward unto the ground. Sorceress followers instantly gathered the fallen hero’s body.
Squall awoke to find himself suspended by his hands, his boots not quite touching the ground. His clouded grey eyes stared uninterestedly around him, feeling apathetic when he discovered that he was surrounded by enemies. They were armed with whips and chains, one even held his gunblade, Lionheart.
“Well, well, look who decided to wake up. You’re just in time.” The leader said in a guttural voice, the one who wielded the brunette’s gunblade. Squall closed his eyes again only to be struck with a whip, the lash bringing blood. The lithe man refused to cry out.
“Look at us when we’re talking to you, bitch. You defeated our Mistress and now you’re going to pay.” Another man growled. Squall opened his eyes then, looking at the men in pity. They were just like Seifer…
Seifer…
The men recognized the look and it infuriated them. Who was this man to pity them?
“Oh? You think you’re tough and can play the goodie-goodie enough to fool us? We know who you are. The man who killed our Mistress, so you can sure as Hyne kill us, so no way, you aren’t getting away from us now. Kill him, boys, but make it last. I want the final blow.” The leader leaned against a soiled wall, his eyes trained on his men and the helpless young man. The chains and whips began to bite into the skin of the war hero’s back. Welts and tears eventually left his lean back in discord. Skin merely hung off in shreds, the rest blood and muscle. Squall had used all of his SeeD training up to this point but then a thought occurred to him.
I…I deserve this…
The brunette’s mental block on the pain lifted and the young man screamed at the fire licking his bloody back, his throat almost tearing at the force of it. The men paused in their beating, finally getting satisfaction from the act because of the pained sound. Their eyes almost greedily devoured the sight of the blood-covered body of their enemy. Their actions were enthusiastic, bringing whip and metal down onto the breaking body with renewed strength and pleasure. Squall let his pain be known, the cries and screams of pain making his throat raw.
Just let me die… That way… I can be with him…
“Stop! Enough! He’s ready!” The leader announced, wielding the gunblade sloppily as he moved to stand in front of the dieing man. Squall lifted his beautiful eyes to meet the other man’s. A cruel smile was flashed before Lionheart was driven through it’s owner, bringing a hoarse scream and widened eyes. Light instantly flooded the dark torture chamber and Squall couldn’t lift his head as the distant sounds of struggle because of his weakness.
The bindings keeping Squall aloft were sliced in two and the bloody hero fell into a warm body. He lifted his eyes sluggishly and his last breath caught in his throat, not releasing into the air, signaling his death.
The last thing Squall had seen were the jade eyes of his beloved.
Seifer was sent into shock. He stared uncomprehendingly in the dull grey eyes of his former lover.
“Squall…?” He questioned softly, disbelievingly. Blank eyes answered him. Not breathing… The blonde’s mind registered.
No… I’m too late…
Seifer smiled through his tears and laid his hand over Squall’s pretty eyes, closing them for the last time. He had struggled through Time Compression to get here too late.
“Don’t worry, Squall. I still love you. See? I remember!” The taller man declared almost fiercely, the smile still in place. He unsheathed his own gunblade while still holding Squall’s body to him, staring down into the face of the man he loved.
“Hyne, if you’re listening, please let me join him. We can still be together. If not for me, do it for Squall. He’s earned it.” The tip of Hyperion was pressed firmly to Seifer’s chest and he kept his eyes on Squall’s peaceful face.
“Wait for me, Squall. I’ll be by your side again soon…” The blonde put all of the remaining strength he possessed and plunged his own gunblade through his chest, stilling his beating heart.
Quistis Trepe sat the phone down sadly, staring at the device. Despite the circumstances, she didn’t believe the report of the Sorceress’ Knight killing Squall. A sad smile curled her lips.
They can finally be together now in peace.
