It Comes to This

The next morning Vincent awoke to a bed less Cloud and began to wonder. Vincent put his pants, tunic and tattered robe back on and proceeded to the dining room in Cloud’s Penthouse. There Vincent found Cloud in nothing but silk boxers and a sky blue shower robe browsing through the newspaper.

“Good to see your awake Vincent, I just had James prepare breakfast.” Cloud said not looking up from the newspaper.

“Breakfast sounds good Cloud….Cloud? What are you looking at so intensely in the newspaper that you cannot look up at me?” Vincent asks innocently.

“The boy we saw at Cid’s ship has been spotted again.” Cloud replies this time looking away from the newspaper and tosses it down the table to Vincent.

Vincent inspects the article closely:

Title: Young Boy, Big Mess!

“A young boy around the age of 13 was seen today at the Midgar burial grounds of the well known Shinra Family, Founders and Owners of the Shinra Electric Power Company that once powered are fine city and many others around the world. The young boy was seen by the grounds keeper who was making his daily rounds at the grave site. He spotted the boy breaking through the mausoleum of the Shinra family members tome, and at once contacted the authorities. The police arrived momentarily just as the boy was leaving the mausoleum. The boy was holding a key shaped necklace that we know now as “The Orifice”. The police told the boy to drop the necklace and he would be escorted to the police station and returned to his parents. But the boy did not comply. The boy drew two blades from his back that began to spark orange. When the boy drew the blades the surviving policemen said, “I have never seen eyes like that before, they were inhuman, they were balls of fire in his eyes instead of pupils.” The boy then struck forward killing two policemen in his path. He then proceeded and sliced through the police car like it was a piece of cheese. The boy then dashed away from the burial grounds and has not been seen since. The surviving policemen was thrown five meters from the car’s frame and was found unconscious by the rescue team and was rushed to the hospital immediately. The secret Midgar police are now investigating the incident and taking matters into their own hands. The police are advising all civilians to stay indoors.”

Vincent sat in his chair in shock and in awe of the re-appearance of the boy. He did not know what to make of the situation at hand. Cloud then got up from his chair and proceeded over to Vincent who was still staring at the trashed burial grounds picture. Cloud then put his hands on Vincent’s shoulder’s and gave them a firm squeeze.

“You said you wanted to talk to me about something. I told you I would help you, and I will keep my word and help you find out who and what this boy wanted with this “Orifice” necklace.” Cloud said rubbing Vincent’s shoulders.

“Thank you Cloud, thank you so much…..” Vincent replied leaned his head onto Cloud’s left hand, rubbing his cheek up and down not noticing James setting the food on the table.

“Now then. Lets eat. We have a long ride ahead of us.” Cloud said taking his hands off Vincent’s shoulders. Proceeding to eat his meal.

Vincent did not touch his breakfast, but sat and gazed at his lover, thanking god for creating such a beautiful person. His beautiful pearl blue eyes, his silky smooth blonde hair, his well toned body, and his…..well I think you know. As Vincent feel into a lucent dream, Cloud got up from his chair and snapped his fingers. “You can day dream later love, but we have a killer to find.” Cloud said smirking at Vincent adoring the fact he was being checked out.

“You are right Cloud, I am sorry.” Vincent replied a little flustered.

“Is everything okay Vincent, you seem kind of odd today.” Cloud asked worryingly. Rubbing a hand up and down Vincent’s collar bone.

Moving Clouds finger away Vincent replied. “No. I am fine. Lets go find the boy.” Cloud then gave Vincent a slight nod and they proceeded to the elevator which would take them back to the lobby floor. On the trip down the elevator Cloud received a text message from Tifa.

It wrote,

“Hey you missed out last night. We had a blast! So how was your meeting with Vincent? Okay I hope. Well got to run, Tifa.”

Cloud then shut the phone and pondered. *I feel as if I have disbanded my love for Tifa. But I really do still love her……But Vincent is my lover now. It may feel wrong inside for awhile but my heart belongs to Vincent. Not Tifa. God what have I done…..* Cloud then stood there rubbing his eyes with his gloved hand.

“Cloud you feeling alright?” Vincent asked.

“Yeah, I’m fine just a minor headache.” Cloud replied lying. Vincent stared at his love and could just tell something was wrong just by the look in his eyes. They seemed to be dim and gloomy and full of confusion. As if he had followed down the wrong path and could never turn back. Was this Vincent’s mistake? Was he the one to blame? He didn’t know. He would have to find out later for they had more pressing issues to attend too.

They reached the lobby floor and Cloud gave his keycard to the manager at the front desk. Vincent leaned against a post waiting for Cloud as he returned it. Still thinking what was wrong in that moment in the elevator? It seems he will never know or will he find out? Surely he could not keep such a big secret from his new love, It could ruin there blooming relationship and have the tree wither and die. Then Vincent would be isolated, alone and …..aggressive…..once again….

As Vincent still pondered Cloud strolled up to him. “Hey you ready?” Tossing Vincent a pair of keys.

“What’s this for?” Vincent asked puzzled. “Are we not taking a transport to Rufus Shinra’s place?”

Cloud smirked, “No. A transport would take to long and we just don’t have the time. We taking two of my personal vehicles.” Cloud said as he opened main doors to the Hotel and saw two new top of the line cycles sitting before him, One black (Clouds), and the other a dark red.

Vincent smiled. “This will be entertaining.” And hopped on the bike and started the ignition and revved the engine squealing the tires, smoke rubbing from the wheels. Cloud then proceeded to get on his bike and started it up.

“Follow my lead. I know the quickest way there.” Cloud said and pulled in front of Vincent and sped up to a very fast speed, Vincent timid at first followed behind Cloud a ways away. But after getting the feel for the bike began to catch up and pull along side of Cloud as they raced through the deserts outside of Midgar, racing towards the dense jungle in which Rufus Shinra hid himself in shame from the rest of the world.
As they reach the entrance of the Shinra mansion Cloud begins to think more and more to himself. *Why did I agree to this? All I wanted was a lover….I did not want to start another war….Could this really be the end for us all?*

They proceeded quietly not speaking a word to each other to the front entrance of the mansion. Cloud buzzed the doorbell. A slot in the door then open and out came a screen. It was static at first then came a face. It was Reno!

“What the hell? What are you guys doing here!?!” Reno asked with an up roar.

“We are here to see Rufus, Reno. Now let us in.” Vincent replied angrily.

“Settle down champ, I’ll let you in.” Reno replies as Cloud and Vincent hear bolts on the other side of the door begin to unlock. Then finally after several minutes the doors fly open to a wide eyed Reno and Rude.

“Well I never thought I’d see the day when you two would be alone together! Why is that anyways?” Reno asked puzzled.

Vincent blushed a little while Cloud replied. “We have business together that is all and we need to see Rufus about urgent matters.”

“Aw I understand top secret Cloud stuff huh? Well whatever I am not sticking my nose into this one.” Reno said with a smirk then motioned for Cloud and Vincent to follow him outside onto Veranda. It was then they saw the man who changed the world and plunged it into the state that it is in today and caused the horrible events of the planets almost certain destruction, Rufus Shinra, Founder of Shinra Electric Power Company. Standing there so innocently like he was just a rich retired businessmen making his way in the world with his cane in one hand supporting his weight on it. Sporting his white suit and then the eye patch that he has worn ever since that day that the power station was destroyed and almost himself with it.

“Well, isn’t this a surprise?” Rufus asked turning around to show a young 28 year old crippled man.

“Rufus Shinra….surprised your still around these parts after what happened yet again with Sephiroth’s return.” Cloud said staring into Rufus cold blue eyes. Much like his own but with no emotion and no remorse for anything he has ever done. “We have come regarding this.” Cloud continued and opened the article about “The Boy” and “The Orifice”.

Rufus looked over the article’s title and immediately replied. “Yes I read about it, awful business digging up another’s tomb.” Rufus replied sitting down facing away from Cloud and the others.

“Well? You don’t care that some boy stole something AND defiled your ancestors tomb?” Cloud yelled angrily.

“Why should I? The boy obviously knew what he was looking for.” Rufus continued. “He wanted something that was of value to him and not to me. So therefore I do not care what he took.” Rufus ended with a long pause. “But….why do you seek “The Orifice” I wonder?” Rufus finally ended turning around to see a peculiar face on Vincent.

“We want to know more about it, and why this boy may want it?” Vincent replied slowly.

“Aw…so I see.” Rufus replied stirring his coffee. “What is in it for me hmm?” Rufus said with a smirk.

Cloud blurted out. “I’ll do whatever you ask of me Rufus.”

“Cloud no!” Vincent yelled not wanting Cloud to agree with this.

Rufus smirked and replied. “Well. There is a matter that needs attending too. One of your friends….Tifa….is someone I have admired for a very long time. Bring her to me just for a day and I will tell you all you need to know about “The Orifice” and why this “boy” may want it.” Rufus smirked even more as he looked upon the shocked faces of the comrades.

“I….I….” Cloud tried to speak but the words could not come. *What should I do? The time has come too ask myself, where do I stand? Do I betray my lover Vincent and tell Rufus that he will never see Tifa another day he lives? Or do I stay true to my lover, but betray the women that has guided me through my life as far back as I can remember….I just don’t know* Cloud sheds a tear down his cheek and answers.

“I will…” Cloud begins.

“Yes?” Rufus asks.

“I will……bring you Tifa……for one day….but not a minute more!” Cloud booms.

Rufus half laughs and replies. “The love triangle….so elegant and can be beautiful….but so deadly and very breakable. I now know who you lie with. I want her here in three days is that clear?” Rufus demands taking a sip of his coffee.

“You’re a monster!” Vincent yells with rage and storms out back to the front entrance of the house.

“Vincent wait!” Cloud yells after him. *Now I have upset them both….I should be killed right now…..*

“Now then Cloud.” Rufus says waking Cloud from his thoughts. “ “The Orifice” as some call it is something that I hold very dear to my heart, and without it I will never be able to re-shape The Shinra Electric Power Company.”

“Wait. Are you telling me your going to try and re-build Shinra? That’s ridiculous no one will ever fund you.” Cloud replies with a sarcastic laugh.

“Who says I need funding? Do you know how much money I made of Shinra over the year that I alone built it? Plenty to re-build it that is for sure.” Rufus replied with a corky smile.

“But why? Why re-build it? And why do you need “The Orifice” to do it?” Cloud asks puzzled.

“One simple reason, power. The Orifice or “The Key of the Shinra family” as us members of the Shinra family call it. Is the only thing that will re-power the Shinra Plant when re-built to it’s fullest capacity.” Rufus replies with a serious face.

“So why not make your task to bring you “The Orifice”? Why Tifa?” Cloud asks trying to persuade him.

“Don’t try to fool me Cloud. I know you will bring me the key or destroy It anyway. Either way I will win if I get Tifa, I will enjoy the “company” of a woman which I have not had in sometime or I will get my company back and return to my former glory. But my suspicions tell me that you will bring me the key even if you do find it.” Rufus replies and takes another sip of his coffee.

“But why would it be so important to the “boy”?” Cloud asks still a little confused by all this happening at once.

“Well. The “boy” may want it to re-power the company by himself and turn it into a weapon of extreme chaos that would wipe out this entire planet.” Rufus said putting his cup down.

“Your going to let him do this?” Cloud asked.

“What can I do? It’s not like I have SOLDIER formed anymore. It’s not like I had “him” of service anymore……even though he did betray my father……and the company…..he was the best SOLDIER and the thing that protected Shinra.” Rufus said and got up without his cane and hobbled over to Cloud standing not an inch from his face. “Don’t blame me for this one Cloud. I had nothing to do with it.” Rufus said in a monotone straight kind of angry face. Rufus then hobbled back to his chair and said his final words to Cloud.

“You and Vincent will stay in the 2 doors down from Reno. Reno, show them to there room.” Rufus said and then turned his chair facing back out towards the semi-cleared oasis.

“Right this way Cloud…” Reno said in a low voice.

*If Cloud has any sense at all, he won’t bring me the girl. That much I know, I just wanted to unveil how he stood with Vincent….* Rufus thought to himself as Reno escorted Cloud back into the house.

“This is your guys’ room Cloud. I hope it suits you. Oh and if you need anything, don’t feel afraid to ask…you have been through a lot today….” Reno said still in a low but calming voice.

“Thank you Reno. I still don’t understand how you can put up with him…the bastard…” Cloud replied saying the last part under his breath.

“Well you know the pay is good.” Reno half laughs then turns to a sulking face. “Well I’ll leave you to Vincent Cloud.” Reno replied and took his leave.

*What am I going to say to him though? I think he will be happy that I choose him. But angry at the same time that I betrayed Tifa. What do I do!* Cloud thought to himself and then headed down to the front entrance where Vincent was sitting on the front steps perched on a banister.

“Vincent?” Cloud asked looking at Vincent.

“It’s fine Cloud. I just….I am having mixed feelings.” Vincent replied.

“I know Vincent. I know. I will not let him harm her I swear….It’s just…I love you Vincent…and I feel my love towards Tifa is gone and I rather protect you and fulfill your needs then hers. I know that sounds awful but it’s the truth Vincent. We cannot turn back now.” Cloud said pouring his heart out putting it on the line hoping that Vincent would not break it.

“Cloud…you know I love you too….I just cannot believe it has come to giving him one our friends for his “enjoyment” It is so wrong.” Vincent replies turning from Cloud to make sure he did not see the tear falling down his face.

“Vincent….Rufus has a room for us tonight. It is getting late. Please…come with me…I swear I will make it up to you?” Cloud said with a look that no man could refuse.

“Alright Cloud, I will come with you. But you better make it up to me big time.” Vincent replied with a half smirk.

“There is no need to worry I will make it up to you with something big alright.” Starring at Vincent’s ass as he walked in front of him gesturing him on. *Beautiful. Simply Beautiful.* Cloud thought to himself as they headed to the room. They arrived and Cloud swiped the keycard Reno had given him before he left and the door opened.

Vincent turned the opposite way of which Cloud was facing and thought about his lover and how he must help him find “The Orifice” and return the favor and help save Tifa from a horrible fate….then after thinking about it for so long turning. Vincent fell into a deep sleep. For tomorrow was another day, and another memory to be had.

Well! This was the second chapter. I am sorry it took so long I have been on vacation touring Europe for the last 2 months! It was fun but I was glad to finally get the second chapter up and finished. It just didn’t seem right leaving it before I left Oh well! Let me know what you think!
