Chapter 1: The Angel
She just sat there, gazing into the water that was now called the 'Scared Water'. The cure for Geostigma. She could see her reflection staring back at her. Her golden hair with streaks of violet and silver she'd put there herself. Her eyes of violet were shining like amethysts. She wore a simple white thin strap sundress, with her hair pulled back into a ponytail with a red ribbon that seemed to bring out the streaks in her hair. She had been told that he had used to live in the church, so she decided to stay here and wait to see if he would show up. Cloud slowly walked over, Ultima Weapon on his back. He carried that more than his other swords for now. His bike was being repaired by Cid. Looking up and seeing Anya, he wondered if she was the one he was suppose to meet.
She looked up, hearing footsteps. She turned and stood up. "You're Cloud, am I right?" She asked softly. He nodded to her. "And who are you?" He asked. "My name is Anya." She said, giving a small bow. "She's right. Your hair is really spiky, but you are very handsome." She said with a soft laugh. He smiled lightly, "Who is it that said that?" He asked. She had said something that caught his attention. 'She was right...' "Aerith told me." She said, still smiling gently. "Actually, Zack told me about your hair, but Aerith is the one who told me that you were handsome." She told him. "She said that..." He smiled faintly; it had been a while, since he last 'saw' her.
"Yes. She's quite a little gossip." She said. "And... how are they doing?" He asked, being as well as they could be doing in their situation. "They both are fine. Aerith is the one who told me that you could help me." She said. She winced slightly as she felt a small pain in her arm. "Do you have it?" He asked, noticing the pain in her face. She nodded slightly. "Yes." He nods, "This will help you." He said, walking over to the water. She looked down, shaking her head. "No... It won't." She said. "It won't?" He said, looking at her. "No. Because I'm... not human." She said. "What... are you?" He asked her, confused.
She shut her eyes, and her body began to glow faintly, as two large white wings appeared on her back. "Some called us 'Angels' at one time. But we were anything but. Our true name is Avion." She said. "Have you tried using this before?" He asked, looking at the water. She nodded slowly. "I waded waist deep into it before you got here." She said. He sighed, sitting down near by. He looked at her, studying her. "Do you know what might help?" "The water seems to act like medicine for me; it helps take away the pain, but it's not gone." She told him. "And it's all I know for now." "Could there be something greater...?" He said quietly, looking down and then back at her.
Anya sat down by the water's edge. "And that's not all. There was more than one reason why I came here to see you." She said. Cloud looked at her, studying her. "What's the other reason?" He asked her. She looked at him, her eyes showing fear and something else - guilt. "Kadaj." She said simply. He looked at her, surprised by this. "K... Kadaj?" She nodded slightly. "Since I was born, I've had the power of necromancy, the power to revive the dead. Along with that, I can hear the voices of the dead as well." She explained. "And it was about seven months ago, I heard a new voice. He sounded scared, and asked me for help..." She paused for a moment. "He said he wanted another chance at life, so that he could finish what he started." She looked down. "At the time, I didn't know what he meant."
Cloud listened to her, he knew what this meant. He knew all too well. "I didn't sense anything dark or evil coming from him, so I said I'd grant his wish and bring him back. It took more energy than a normal resurrection, but I brought him back. In the month that followed, I took care of him, helping to restore him to strength. He told me his name was Kadaj. But he never once told me of what he 'had to finish'." She continued. "What happened from then on?" Cloud asked her, urging her to keep going.
"It was close to two months ago. He said that he needed his brothers back as well. He asked me to revive them also. I still saw nothing wrong, so I did as he asked, reviving Yazoo and Loz. All three of them were 'kind' to me, but I never noticed how they used me for my powers. Finally, Kadaj said that 'The Reunion is coming'. That made me think back to when I had revived Kadaj. During the resurrection on Kadaj, I had removed something from his body. I took it to a friend, and asked him to take it and hide it. I know now what it was..." She said as she trailed off.
"What?" He asked, fearing it was 'Mother', or a piece of Materia. "The one who brought disaster from the heavens. The one who you call, Jenova." Anya said in a low voice. "'Mother' has returned then... which... means..." He said, trailing off. His memory flashed back to the battle... the battle with the One Winged Angel... Sephiroth. "Yes, the false angel." Anya said. "Vincent assured me he would take care of 'Mother'." She said. "However, Kadaj found out that I had taken Jenova, and he grew into a rage. But instead of killing me, he gave me what he called 'Geostigma, v.02.' He said he couldn't kill me, and that he couldn't even if he wanted to. And trust me, he wanted to kill me. He said he couldn't hate me either." She said.
Cloud looked at her, recalling what she said. "Vincent has Jenova's Head?" He asked. Anya shrugged her shoulders. "I'm not sure what he did with it." She widened her eyes, gripping her arm again for a moment. "Are you ok?" Cloud asked, looking a bit worried. "I'll be fine." She told him, trying to ignore the pain in her arm. Cloud found himself staring at this 'angel'. That was the only word he could use to describe her. Her hair that had gold, silver and violet in it. Her eyes of amethysts, and her pale skin all made her seem 'unearthly', and she had a 'heavenly' glow to her. The large white wings on her back only added to the image in his mind. This girl had thought she was helping a lost soul. But she had only brought back a threat to the Planet. So why couldn't he be mad at her?
"Cloud!" A younger voice said from the other end of the church. Cloud turned around to the voice. Marlene smiled as she rushed over to Cloud. Tifa stood by the doorway with Denzel. "They wanted to see you." Tifa told him. Cloud smiled, "I was just going to look for you Tifa." He said. He knew if this was true, which is was... he was going to need a lot of help. Marlene hugged Cloud, but then noticed Anya by the water. "Cloud, who's she?" The little girl asked. Cloud turned to Anya, wondering if she wanted them to know who she was... Tifa was going to find out sooner or later. She only nodded, telling him it was ok to tell them about her. Tifa walked over to them, noticing Anya's snow white wings. Denzel walked next to Tifa, going over next to Marlene. Cloud looked at Tifa, "Tifa, this is Anya..." He said to the other woman. "She came to me for help."
"She has wings..." Marlene said in awe. Anya smiled at the little girl before she turned to Tifa. "I'll explain the details later. Cloud, there's something else you should know." She said. "What is it?" He asked her. Anya looked at the kids for a moment, then back at him. "About, 'Mother'." She said. Cloud turned to Marlene and Denzel, as he knelt down. "Can you two go outside and wait? I promise me and Tifa won't be long." He said. He wanted Tifa to hear this. Marlene looked at the adults, but she nodded. "Ok." She said as she headed for the door. Denzel nodded, and walked outside with Marlene.
Cloud looked at Tifa, then Anya. "Vincent had warned me that ShinRa might try and get Jenova's head like last time." She said. "What?" Tifa asked, confused. "They don't give up." Cloud sighed. Anya nodded, as she held her arm. "Yes, I know." Tifa looked at Cloud, then Anya. "Your arm... Do you have...?" Cloud looked at Tifa. "It's a new type..." He said. "Tifa... K... Kadaj... is back." He added. "What?!" Tifa almost yelled. "Yes, Kadaj is back. And it's my fault." Anya said, looking at the water. "Kadaj tricked her into reviving him." He said. "Revive?" Tifa asked.
"That's right. I'm a necromancer." Anya told Tifa. "Tifa... I'm going to need your help... to find a cure for this new version, and stop Kadaj from going through with the Reunion again..." He said. "You... remember what happened the last time he went through with it." He said in a low tone. Tifa nodded. "Yes, I remember." "This is all my fault." Anya said, holding her arm a bit tighter. Cloud went over to her, placing his hands on her shoulders. "It's not your fault... you didn't know... Kadaj is good a using people for getting what he wants." He said, "You didn't know." Tifa didn't say anything as she tried to think of a plan for rounding up the others. Anya looked at him. "I should have been able to sense something."
"Don't worry, you only did what you thought was right... you didn't know." He said, trying to comfort her a bit. He had the same thing Tifa did on his mind. Anya let out a sigh, but then felt her phone vibrate and ring. She pulled out her phone and answered it. "Go." She said. "No, but I met up with Cloud." She told the person on the other end. "Yes, I told him about what happened." He looked at her, watching her as she talked. He said nothing as he waited for her to finish. "You said you'd take care of the Turks." She grumbled a bit. "Fine. I'll meet up with you there." She said. "Later, Vince." She said as she hung up. Cloud looked at Tifa then back to Anya, "Where is Vincent?" He asked. "He's in Healin right now. Keeping an eye on what Rufus has been up to." Anya told him. She turned to Tifa. "Do you have some spare clothes I could borrow?" She asked. "Um... sure." Tifa said.
Cloud looked at the two, when she left with Tifa to get clothes, he was going to try and contact Cid, Barrett, and Yuffie. When they came back about ten minutes later, Anya was now wearing a pair of jeans, a denim vest, and a white shirt. She had black boots on, and was wearing Tifa's pair of fingerless gloves that she never wore. "Much better to fight in." Anya said. Cloud puts his phone away when they return, he looked at the two. "I wasn't able to get a hold of anyone else..." He said. "Cloud, why don't you come with me and meet up with Vincent?" Anya asked. "I can stay here and watch the kids." Tifa said. "And I'll let you know if I get in contact with the others."
Cloud nodded. "We can leave when your ready." he said. Anya nodded and turned to Tifa. "Give me your phone." Tifa looked at her but then did as she asked. Anya punched in a number into the phone. "There, now you have my cell number." She told her as she handed it back to Tifa. The Avion turned to Cloud. "My ride is waiting outside." She said. "Mine is nearby." Cloud said, walking next to her. She walked out of the church, watching him. She walked over to a large black motorcycle with red flames on the side. "Hope you're not a backseat driver." She said as she put a leg over the bike and started it up.
Cloud shook his head, and got on. His ride was a bit away, and he didn't know how much time they had before something happened. "Hang on tight." She told him as she put on some goggles to protect her eyes. "Let's go." He said. She revved the engine once before they took off. Tifa watched them leave, slightly jealous of how Cloud was holding Anya. Cloud looked back at Tifa, then forward as they continued on.
