Lust for Blood - Genesis

(Thump thump x7)
He could hear it again…. The steady beating of his heart. ‘Why now? Why now after so many years had passed’. It didn’t make any sense to him. He wanted to die, but his body would not let him. As such, a death-like sleep was good enough for him now. His eyes stayed closed. Why did his body continue to live? “I cannot come out… I failed you…” He whispered to no one.

(Thump thump x7)
Yes… He had failed her. His lady, his queen, his goddess… He had failed her. The guilt filled his heart once again with the memories of her disappointed face as he approached her on that day. His body had been dying and he had been seeking a way to stop it. He’d been so desperate that he’d even searched out the Monster that fell from the Skies…. Jenova.

‘Live on….’ A soft voice whispered back to him. ‘You have not failed. You only became sidetracked.’ His heart filled with a tiny glimmer of hope. “She… is alive?” He asked slowly from within his shadowy tomb. ‘Yes. She lives. She lives in solitude and confusion. Her heart wracked with guilt, like yours.’ His heart began to beat faster slowly but surely. ‘Live on… and find her.’

His eyes snapped open, his body throwing himself forward on his bed as he woke up, breathing heavily. His princess was alive. He had not failed his queen yet. He could still keep his promise to her… to the woman he loved. He had to find the young princess. He had to find her before any more danger overshadowed her. He threw the sheets of his bed off of his body and onto the floor. He stood up and quickly began to dress himself. He’d start his search for her now. He didn’t care that it was the middle of the night. ‘I’ll find her.’ Genesis nodded to himself. ‘I won’t fail this time.’

Anya turned her head to face the older Avion, her violet eyes fixed on his one black wing. Genesis himself stared at her face, studying her carefully. It had been centuries since he had last seen Anya, and she had been only a child then. Centuries had passed since then. She was now a young woman physically, but by Avion standards of her age, she was only a young adult. He had tried to follow her, even ending up at SOLIDER soon after she’d left the military herself. “You look… so much like your mother…” He said softly, staring at the princess.

“If you’re here to take me back to Avionaterria, you’re wasting your time. I’m not going back.” Anya said as she walked away. “I’m not here to take you home. In all honesty, I have not been back to the city in millennia.” Genesis replied, following her. “Then why are you here?” She asked, entering her room and walking over to her bed. “I’m here to help you.” He replied, his accent sending a chill of delight down her spine. “I’m afraid I don’t need your help. I’m going to go find my friend and get her back from him.” Anya said, grabbing her katanas. “I can’t let you do that, Anya.” Genesis said as he blocked the doorway out of her room. “Why not?” The younger woman asked him. “Because I made a promise to your mother, Alicetecha. I’d promised I’d protect and watch over you.”

“Please watch over my daughter, Genesis.” Alicetecha asked the younger Avion, stopping by a balcony window to gaze down at her young daughter playing in the gardens. “Protect and watch over her.” The queen continued. “Of course. Anything you ask, I will do.” Genesis replied to the violet eyed goddess. “I promise that I shall always protect her.” He added. He stared at the golden haired goddess who had created their race. The pure, beautiful woman whom he loved above all others, and everything else. He turned his eyes back to the young princess who was playing with Racell. The blonde Avion youth hugged the princess, since he was both her betrothed and her engaged.

He had watched her grow up, grow into a beautiful woman like her mother. She was almost the mirror image of her mother now. She had her mother’s heart and soul, but she also had a fiery temper and determination all her own. “Anyanestellia… If you insist on going to Deepground… I shall go with you. I know that place better than anyone.” Genesis told her, his eyes watching each of her friends carefully for a moment. Anya nodded and hugged Cloud’s arm. He, in turn, hugged her back. Genesis felt a small pain in his heart as he watched. ‘Racell… Did the Lifestream allow you to be reborn as this ‘Cloud’ to find her again?’ He thought.

Anya winced in pain as she spread her wings and tried to fly after them. “Give her back!” She yelled, her body weak and her wings even weaker. She began to fall a bit, going straight downwards. The Deepground General flew up and caught the younger Avion in his arms, his one black wing a perfect match for Sephiroth’s. His was on the left side, while Sephiroth’s was on the right. “If you insist upon overexerting your body, you’ll not only harm yourself but both your children!” He scolded the princess, knowing of her pregnancy. “And yes, it is two.” He said before she could ask.

Genesis leaned against the wall of the room Tifa had let him use. His eyes were shut tightly to desperately fight back tears that he’d thought he’d long since forgotten how to cry. ‘Alicetecha… Why? Why is it my heart still longs for you after so much time has passed? And now it also longs for your daughter?’ He asked, holding his arm. ‘Am I doomed to be alone, and my feelings never returned?’ The memories of Anya with Racell, and now Cloud… He didn’t understand why he felt jealousy if his princess was happy.

Anya winced as the Deepground General lifted her up into his arms gently. “It’s alright… I’ve got you.” He assured her, his voice flowing over her like a wave. “I’ll take you back to Cloud and the others.” He added. “Thank you… for saving me… Genesis.” Anya said weakly as she placed a hand on his chest. ‘I’m only fulfilling my promise. I’m only following orders. I cannot fail her or myself again.’ He wanted to say to her. “You’re welcome… Princess.” He said as he held her body close to his as he spread his wing. He jumped up into the air with her still safe in his arms. “I only want your happiness and safety.” He said, only earning a slight nod from her in response. “And…” He started to say. “Yes?” She asked weakly. “I love you…” He said in a soft whisper.
