I do not own Final Fantasy X and I’m not making any money here either.

Summary: Don’t even think about putting on your brakes, because you’re in the city that never sleeps. This story will contain boy love, language, OC, and violence.

Prologue

Zanarkand is the city which never seems to know when it’s sleepy time. It’s a brilliant city lit with the power of a trillion-zillion lights that make it brighter than the sun. The city is a luminous jewel upon the emerald green waters. Everywhere a person looks, there is always something going on. It is prosperous, magical, and it seems like all fantasies and desires can be fulfilled here…for a price.

Phoenix, an infamous singer was looking at himself in his oval shaped mirror. He was wondering where his best friend was. They had agreed to meet before the blitzball tournament tonight. That jerk was always late. Blondes, they can never do anything on time. He just kept looking at himself in the rose colored glass.

He was shorter than most teens his age, but his voice stood taller than a mountain and was more powerful than a raging tsunami. He ran his gloved fingers through his silky crimson red locks, gazing at his milky smooth complexion. His eyes were as green as the ocean in which the sun shines down on.

He had become a singer at the age of thirteen and became a mythological sensation at the age of fifteen. His voice was legendary and people came from all over just to hear him sing. It was like his voice possessed a kind of magic that could cause the very gods to look down from their lofty heights in a dazed swoon.

“Hey, vampire!” A loud voice called out and he spun around in his chair, listening to the sound of feet rushing up his stairs and saw his best friend throw open the door with a pant. His golden skin was shining in the light and his blond hair was all in his eyes. “Are you still starting off the game tonight?”

Phoenix nodded, giving him a smile that was warmer than beaming sunlight that was shining down from the glass above. “It’s going to be a massive explosion.”

Tidus chuckled and Phoenix couldn’t help but to admire him like he always caught himself doing. He loved how tan his skin was and how it caused his hair to shimmer like yellow gold around his handsome face. Oh, he just wanted to throw himself at him, and lick him into a squirming frenzy of lust.

“Wow,” Tidus whistled, looking at him with those gorgeous sky blue eyes of his. “Who designed that outfit and why aren’t you maiming them?”

Phoenix spun around, getting out of his chair in a flap of sleek black leather. It shimmered all down his body like liquid darkness. “A Goddess made this, of course.”

Tidus rolled his eyes, walking over to the sofa. “Uh-huh.”

“Are you going to win?” Phoenix asked him, telling him to take a seat already.

“Of course I’m going to win this one,” Tidus smiled, looking over at him with humor. “Are you going to stick around this time and cheer me on after your number?”

Phoenix nodded. He had just gotten really upset the last time. He just couldn’t stand to see all those girls and guys pawing at him and drooling all over him. Hell, he hated it when they did the same to him, because he wanted it to be Tidus doing it. But, he had to grin and bear it. A rock star had to keep his fans.

“Good,” Tidus smiled, putting his feet up on the table like he always did. It didn’t matter how many times Phoenix told him not to do so, he did it anyways. “I like seeing you hiding behind sunglasses that are way too big for your face, cheering me on from the screaming crowd.”

“Do you want to come watch me rehearse for the show?” Phoenix asked him, walking over and pushing the blonde’s feet off the table.

Tidus laughed, shaking his head. “I need a nap.”

“Ah,” he said, cocking a delicately thin brow. “How have you been sleeping?”

Tidus made a sudden face and that worried him. Was he having those bad dreams again? He could still remember him crying out and nearly breaking his nose one night when he had tried to wake him up. They had gotten so drunk.

“I’m fine,” Tidus said and he knew he was lying. He was so easy to read. He always scratched his cheek. It was his Tell.

“You can sleep here,” Phoenix offered, spreading his arms wide, offering his home to him.

Tidus grinned with such white teeth. “You really are my best friend, Phoenix.”

He nodded, shaking his head. “I know this.”

We’re all we have now.

Tidus yawned, putting a hand up to politely cover his gaping mouth. “I’ll see you at the game.”

“Yep,” Phoenix said, heading to the door. “Sleep tight, Tidy.”

“Hey,” Tidus yelled after him. “Don’t call me that! We’re not six anymore!”

“I’m not,” Phoenix waved back. “See you!”

He closed the door, hearing the pillow smack it from the other side. That caused him to snort. The wind was so warm and it ruffled his ruby red locks. He walked across the ramp, looking down at the gentle waves below. The water was so green today.

He looked up at the sky that mirrored Tidus’s eyes and sighed. It was going to be a long day and an even longer night. Why couldn’t people just go to bed? Where was that damn power switch? This city could use a good blackout.

“Phoenix!” A loud voice screamed to high heaven.

“Oh, no!” He cried, taking off running with his cloak flapping like wings behind him. “They’ve found me again!”

“There he goes!” A girl shrieked. “Don’t let him escape! I want his belt!”

Tidus fell over on the couch, burying his face into a pillow with a frustrated groan. He had choked up again. Why couldn’t he ever tell Phoenix what was on his mind? It was like the guy just kept getting even more beautiful with every day that passed. His mouth had literally locked up because Phoenix had been so erotically dressed. He loved how milky white his perfect skin was and seeing so much of it at one time had nearly caused him to trip and fall over flat on his face. His skin was like the moon hidden in spidery darkness.

Phoenix was his best friend. They have always been there for each other, not matter what the circumstances. And over the years, he had come to realize that his feelings had grown into something more. He just didn’t know how to express them, because Phoenix wasn’t a girl. You just can’t come right out and tell a sexy ass guy that you loved him so much you wanted to screw his brains out all over the pretty white carpet. That would be messy and Phoenix would drop kick him for even daring to even think about soiling his sea of snow.

He growled as he punched the pillow. What kind of show was Phoenix putting on tonight anyway? Why had he been dressed like that? Why had he been showing so much skin? All of Zanarkand would have their hungry, drooling eyes all over him.

Oh, it pissed him off when he saw guys and girls pawing at him like love sick puppies. He wanted to kick all those puppies and make himself a nice coat to wear when he visited the winter regions one day.

He kicked off his shoes and put his feet up so he could get more comfortable. All he really wanted to do right now was get some rest. Maybe his stupid dad wouldn’t visit his dreams tonight. He really hated that arrogant prick. He hated his fucking guts. The guy had been such a waste of space and he still was. Oh, he fucking hated him! He really hoped he was dead.

“Phoenix,” he whispered, rolling over onto his back to look up at the high beamed ceiling. “I’ll tell him tonight…”

Fireworks filled the star studded sky and drums echoed all throughout the packed blitzball stadium. Everyone was screaming and cheering wildly as the stage ascended up from some secret chamber deep under them. A billion lights were flashing as mist filled the place with a cool sweetness.

Tidus looked up from where he was sitting in the water. He couldn’t help but smile. He always got like this when the game was only minutes away from starting.

People screamed and Tidus got to his feet. There was Phoenix. He was wrapped up in some kind of cocoon in the center of a giant silvery spider web. His beautiful face was on the big screens that were floating all around in the air. He had his glorious red hair spiked to where it looked like coiling devil horns. His left eye was painted like the web he was caught in. His voice was echoing all around like he was screaming for someone to free him. It was almost like those molten emerald green gemstones were burning right into him.

No more gas in the rear
Can’t even get it started
Nothing heard, nothing said
Can’t even speak about it
Out of my life out of my head
Don’t want to think about it
Feels like I’m going insane
Yeah

Suddenly the giant web was surrounded by a throng of dancers with multiple arms. They were moving to the beat of the song and his voice. There movements were like that of slithering serpents, only in an eerie slow motion due to the flashing lights. There makeup was wild and fantastic. They looked just liked fanged spider people and they were all beautiful in some terribly twisted way.

Phoenix’s hands broke free from his creeping black restraints and it was like his skin was glowing like a white hot bulb as he lifted his arms to the jeweled night above. Shimmering lights seemed to be dancing all around him and they were just as dazzling to the eyes. People were screaming their heads off and some did when spidery arms seized him from behind, pulling him back against the web with some force.

It’s a thief in the night

It’s too close for comfort

Tidus couldn’t take his eyes off the vision above his head. He had never seen or heard Phoenix sing something so creepy. It was spooky as hell. It looks like the radiant redhead had done it again. People were going to talk about this one for weeks.

Phoenix was wrestling with the arms that held him at bay and he was snapping at them with song. It looked like he wanted to break free and tear into something.

Put on your brake lights

So if you must faulter be wise

He broke free from the web with a flash of blinding violet-red light and all the dancers swirled around him, falling to their knees, looking upon him with adoration as the web shattered into a glittering silver storm behind him. The looks on their faces was like that of worship. It was like he was there god or something.

Tidus was disturbed. What in the hell was he wearing? Who the hell was his designer? He was going to kill them. His friend hardly had any clothes on at all. He was dancing around in the arms of other men in nothing but skin tight leather pants that were cut and ripped in all the right places. If there was any less leather, he’d be fucking naked up there.

He looked around. People were going crazy. Some were even trying to jump across the ledge to where the stage was floating.

The Siren’s voice floated and whispered all around him. A warm wind rushed through his hair as water began to slowly fill the blitz sphere. He turned to see that the go was green but none of the players were moving. They couldn’t take their eyes off the spectacle above. It made him growl.

Faded pictures on the wall
It’s like they talkin’ to me
Disconnectin’ phone calls
The phone don’t even ring
I gotta get out
Or figure this shit out
It’s too close for comfort

Phoenix suddenly opened his blood red lips and his mouth was filled with needle sharp fangs. Girls and guys were screaming their faces off as flowing green silk began to wrap itself around his gloriously white body, lifting him up off his glowing feet in shimmering emerald seductiveness.

It’s a thief in the night
To come and grab you
It can creep up inside you

I feel like a monster

The green silk was ripped and shredded away from him and he fell to his booted feet with giant black wings protruding from his back. His eyes snapped open and they were like emerald stars on the big screens. He looked just like a beautiful Green-Eyed Monster. His dragon-like wings flapped a few times. Hands were gliding and touching all of the moon white flesh they could get to.

He walked on booted feet towards a guy and a girl that were dancing among the throng of spiders. The guy was a blond and the girl was a brunette. His deadly garnet red mouth was in a scary sneer.

He pulled the guy away from the girl with a vicious jerk, shoving her back into the dancing spiders to where she vanished with a wild scream. He spun the guy around, snarling against his neck, holding his cheeks between his creamy smooth palms.

Tidus’s eyes widened. What the hell was he doing? That guy almost looked just like him. He turned to see that some of his team members had tore their eyes away from the glory above to look at him in some confusion, too.

Phoenix pressed his body up against the Tidus clone, holding him close. The audience was in a hysterical frenzy. He really was the Green-Eyed Monster. He was Jealousy. He wanted Tidus only for himself. He wanted to be the only person in his arms, in his eyes, and in his heart.

Release me from this curse I’m in
Trying to remain tame
But I’m struggling
If you can go, go, go
I think I’m going to oh, oh, oh

He pushed the guy away from him, causing him to fall over onto his back. Phoenix stood over him, placing a sharp black heel directly on his groin, pressing down, causing the guy to arch his back up off the floor with a shout. Lights flashed, showing just how deadly he looked in that moment. His horns were falling down, causing his hair to billow like serpents in the wind.

He got down on his knees, arching his wings up in all there dark splendor as he crawled like a large cat of prey up the length of the blonde’s body. His fingers were like claws, and slit the guy’s thin shirt, ripping it open with a powerful shout. He threw his head back, as he ran his talons up and down that golden flesh.

Tidus was in shock. That was all there was to it. Now he knew what he should have known all along. Phoenix had feelings for him. At least, that’s what all that had looked like from where he was standing.

“Wow,” a guy said, walking over, and punching him in the shoulder. “It looks like your best friend wants you bad, Ti.”

“Shut up, Gai,” Tidus said, punching him back. “Let’s just win this game.”

The black headed guy just looked at him. “You mean you aren’t going to go see what all that was about?”

“I will later,” he said, turning to follow after the others. “We have a game to win.”

He turned back to see the Green-Eyed God take his bow, and spin around a few times, bowing even more. It caused his heart to leap with hope that he wasn’t wrong. Yes, he really would tell him after he won this game.

“Thank you,” Phoenix said, bowing to each side of the spinning stage. “Thank you all so much for coming to hear me sing.”

The audience roared like a million dragons.

“WE LOVE YOU!”

“Aw,” Phoenix smiled, bowing one more time. “And now it is my proud honor to give you…THE ZANARKAND ABES!”

He spun around with a smile, seeing the giant sphere filling with water. His heart was thundering in his chest. Had he done the right thing? Well, he was about to find out.

“Hold it!” Phoenix suddenly shouted into the microphone, pointing with a clawed finger. “What the fuck is that?”

It was like a giant wave of water was heading right towards the stadium and there was something huge inside of it. A pulse hit him and he fell to his knees, dropping the microphone. He put his hands to his ears, screaming in agony. It was like something was trying to tear him apart from the inside out.

He saw a huge beam of energy heading right towards him and he swore he could hear someone screaming his name. The beam of energy flew over his head, striking where people were fleeing, causing a massive explosion. His eyes widened as he ducked down, protecting himself from the flying debris. He had just witnessed hundreds of people being blown to pieces. He was trembling and shaking in fear. j

“Hey!” A voice shouted. “Don’t just stand there, you idiot! Help me!”

He got to his knees, looking around with wild eyes. His hair was snapping in the hot wind from the burning flames as he tore his wings off.

“Tidus!” He yelled, getting to his feet, running to the edge of the stage. He looked down and almost passed out. There was Tidus, holding on, dangling at least a hundred feet from the flames and jagged rocks below. He got down, stretching out his hand. “Take my hand!”

The bigger hand grasped his, and he began to pull with all his might. He gritted his teeth and pulled even harder.

“That’s it!” He shouted, pulling even more. “You’re so going on a diet, you stupid blond!”

“Shut up!” Tidus yelled, getting a foot hold now, pulling himself up. “You just need to work out more.”

Emerald green eyes met topaz blue and the blond threw his arms around him, holding him tight as the flames raged all around them. People were screaming and running and a loud growl echoed like thunder across the sky.

Suddenly the ground beneath them began to quake.

“Oh, shit!” Tidus yelled, pulling him even closer. “We’re going to fall out of the air!”

“Come on!” Phoenix said, getting shakily to his feet. “We’re going to have to jump to the stands!”

“Are you crazy?” Tidus yelled, pulling him around. “Do you see how far away they are?”

“Do you see what’s waiting us below?” Phoenix yelled right back in his face. There was a sea of fire hissing directly below them.

Phoenix gulped. “I see your point.”

They both took off running and Tidus suddenly stopped him, pulling him around.

“What are you doing?’ Phoenix cried in a panic, as the stadium became even more unstable.

“We’re going to ride that,” he said, leading him over to an Air Scooter.

Phoenix’s eyes lit up. This was perfect. But, wait! Phoenix had crashed his last one. There was no fucking way.

“Get on behind me!” Tidus yelled, sitting down, holding out his hand for him to take.

The monstrous growls were getting closer and the stadium really did begin to fall.

He threw himself on behind him and Tidus hit the pedal. They were off zooming through the air, leaving a trail of blue light behind them. He turned, watching the stadium fall into flames. People were running around all over the place. It was a full on panic. What the hell was going on?

“What the hell is that thing?” Tidus asked, pointing at the giant ball of moving water. There was something monstrous within. It looked like some kind of large creature, but they couldn’t make it out. The water kept its form shrouded in mystery.

“We have to get out of here,” Phoenix said and he could hear screams. He looked down to see that there were small monsters chasing after people.

“Um,” Tidus suddenly said and the scooter began to skip. “I think we’re out of fuel…”

“Land over there,” Phoenix pointed. “I think I see stairs on that terrace.”

“Oh my god,” Tidus said, making the scooter go faster because it was really skipping badly. “Is that…”

Phoenix tightened his grip around his waist, because they were slowly falling.

“Hold on tighter!” Tidus yelled. “I think we’re going to crash!”

Phoenix shouted at the top of his lungs. “You always crash these damn things!”

“Well, this time it’s not my fault!” Tidus shouted right back at him. “We’re out of fuel and maybe you should learn how to drive!”

All of a sudden it was like time stopped. Phoenix looked around in wonder. Everything was frozen…even the flames.

“What’s going on?” Tidus asked, looking around. “We’re frozen in the air.”

“Jump!” A deep voice shouted and they both looked to see a man in red standing there. He had a big sword over his shoulder.

“Auron?”

“I said jump, you fools!” He shouted. “He’ll soon be upon us?”

“What the hell is going on?” Tidus yelled, moving to do what the elder man was saying. “What is that thing?”

“I can feel it,” Phoenix said, holding onto his chest. “There is such a great pain…such a great sorrow.”

“Are you all right?” Tidus asked, spinning around, nearly tumbling off the damn thing.

“JUMP!” Auron commanded.

Tidus quickly took hold of Phoenix’s hand and they both jumped on three. Phoenix felt like his heart was going to jump out of his chest. Tidus landed on his feet and Phoenix would have fallen flat had he not steadied him.

“Good,” Auron said, walking away from them. “You should head back to your ship, Phoenix.”

“What?” Tidus yelled. “I’m not going anywhere without him!”

Auron spun around. “He’s not a part of this!”

“What the fuck are you talking about?” Tidus all but screamed in the taller man’s face. “I LOVE HIM! I’m not going anywhere!”

Phoenix felt his breath freeze in his lungs. He looked up at the blonde’s broad back, not hearing anything after that.

He loves me? He loves me? What? Did I really hear that? What’s that sound?

He looked up to see that there was something opening up in the sky over their heads. Debris was floating up in the air all around him and he suddenly began to feel light as a feather.

“Fine,” Auron said, turning his back. “We’ll take him to.”

“Phoenix,” Tidus said, spinning around, taking him by the hand.

They were both floating up off their feet. Tidus pulled him close.

“If we die,” he whispered, holding onto the blond ever so tightly. “I just want you to know that I’ve always loved…”

He didn’t get to finish. A growl erupted like an exploding fissure in the earth and a bright flash rained down from above like lightning. His cries mingled with Tidus’s. It felt like he was being torn apart once more. It hurt like hell, but he didn’t let go. He would never let go.
