Summary: Another sorceress arises and wages war and Seifer is the Knight again. In the last battle,
when the world is at stake who will Squall choose? His lover or a world of innocent people.
***********
Squall’s sword pierced another rebels gut. He stood firm while others engaged him. He heard
the others fighting. He heard the gun shots of Irvine’s rifle and Selphie’s nun chucks cracking off
the head of one of the men, Rinoa’s spells sounding in the distance. Quistis’s whip broke against his
face and ripped threw the neck of the rebel behind him. He raised his hand in thanks. He watched
Zell charge a group of soldiers. The little martial artist was buried by them instantly. The brunette
heard a deep crack and the drove of soldiers departed from the body. The brunette held his tears in.
He charged angrily swinging his gunblade to decapitate one of the soldiers.
sp; sp; He peered up. His lover was in front of the sorceress. He jumped on to the platform amidst the
screams. He was surrounded by death.
“Seifer…”
The blond smiled. He lifted Hyperion and got into battle mode.
“Seifer?”
Seifer charged and Squall just missed being beheaded by the dark blade.
“I woightight you. Move.” Squall whispered.
Seifer attacked again and their blades sparked on contact. Seifer pushed Squall.
“FIGHT ME, Squall.” Seifer cried.
He threw a firaga at Squall and ran at him blade raised high. Squall ducked out of the way.
“I can’t.”
“Squall, he cant help how he acts. He is under a spell that cannot be broken! He must die
for this too end.” Edea yelled. She knew this was true from experience.
Squall threw his body weight around until he was near to the sorceress. Arms clamped around
his stomach and he was thrown off the platform. He landed hard on his shoulders. Everything seemed
to slow down and he thought about his life with Seifer. Seifer became his lover shortly after he returned
to Garden. Not too long after their year anniversary, Seifer disappeared. Heembeembered when Seifer said
for the first time, “I love you.” Squall had stood there amazed and smiled. He had been so happy.
The rain clouds began crying. The battle ground becoming mud, everyone and everything became wet.
Squall gazed up and saw Seifer. “I can get around you.” Squall stood and ran. He past Seifer and
flew onto the platform. He raised his gunblade and brought it down for a death blow. It hit the sorceress
in the throat and her head bounced off the platform and hit the dirt.
Squall turned to see if the spell on Seifer had been broken. He was cut in the shoulder. He gripped
his shoulder and fell.
“She still lives in me, boy.”
Edea’s words rang in his ears. He must die for this too end. Tears fell from Squall eyes as his blade
pierced his lovers chest. He heard Seifer take a deep breath. He peered into the blonde’s soft green eyes and
notice that Seifer was still in there. He was trapped. His eyes glassed over.
“Th…thank…you” Seifer stumbled.
All the screaming and yelling died to silence as Seifer fell into the embracing mud. Squall fell to the
mud by Seifer’s body and picked his hand out of the mud. He held it and began crying.
“I am sorry.” He turned his head to see who else had been lost. He noticed Irvine holding Selphie’s body.
No one else seemed to be lost.
“I never told you…I love you too.” He lied down beside Seifer’s body and lifted his hand to straighten
Seifer’s hair. He lowered his hand and intertwined their fingers.
The rain continued to pour on the boy and his lost lover. Everyone eventually departed, leaving Squall alone.
“You know I had too. All those lives or two lives. Yours and mine mean nothing compared to a world of
innocent people. I needed to save them. It was my duty, I’m sorry…” He sat up and cupped his face in his hands
while he cried.
Squall took two deep breaths and gazed at the beautiful blonde.
“I guess this is goodbye.” He leaned over Seifer and kissed his cold, wet lips gently.
Squall rose from the encroaching earth. He turned towards Quistis. She nodded. Irvine lifted Selphie
into his arms and cradled her body to his chest. Tears weighing heavy on his brown cheeks. Zell was raised by
six SeeD’s. They carried his body back to Garden for a warriors funeral. Edea and Rinoa were crying watching
everyone leave before they themselves left.
Squall turned and gazed at Seifer as two wounded soldiers carried him away. Seifer would be buried in
an unmarked grave. Squall stood upright. He began to tanstensteady steps toward Quistis. Hhakihaking steps
faltered and he fell he ehe earth below. His body shaking from the waves of pain and sorrow. Quistis ran towards
him. Before she reached him, Squall stood and ran towards the soldiers.
“DON’T TOUCH HIM!” They both glared up confused.
Squall grabbed onto Seifer and took his arm and threw it over his shoulder. Squall arm wrapped around his
waist and he began to drag Seifer with him.
“Squall what are you doing?” Quistis questioned.
“He was going to die and be forgotten! It wasn’t him that fought today it was someone else. He died a
brave man!” Squall cried. He continued to awkwardly drag his lovers body. The weight over powered him and he
fell to his knees.
Two SeeD’s walked by.
“HELP ME!” They looked at Squall and then at Seifer and shook their heads.
“Somebody…” Squall pleaded.
Quistis nodded softly. She walked to the crying brunettes side. She took hold of Seifer’s other arm and
lifted him with Squall’s help.
***********
Not shortly after the ceremony for those lost occurred. All SeeD’s saluted the lost in respect. 100’s died.
But only three mattered to Squall. His best friend Zell. He was laid beside Selphie. The pyres burned radiantly.
Then the one that mattered most. Seifer Almasy. His lover. He stood in front of the pyre saluting with tears
streaming down his face. Everyone’s name was inscribed on the wall of Garden. The ones with honours were written
down in books.
Many were lost that day. Many will be forgotten in time. Others wont be forgotten as easily. Everyone
made their marks on someone. But no mark was engrained deeper on the hearts of two then between the SeeD and his
lover, the Knight.
The End
