"Merry Christmas, Vivi Ornitier"
~~~~~
Finally, some holiday sap you're bound to like. WAFF, Vivi x Zidane, and all the other good stuff. They don't belong to me, so don't sue if it's not what you like...and Vivi is not going to be a depressive little brat in this story, although considering my mood he should have been.
Vivi: Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
VVL 69: Get over yourself, weirdo. *whacks Vivi over the head with an enormous candy cane*
Vivi: Love hurts... *crying*
Vivi sat alone in the grand ballroom of Alexandria Castle, watching the eight-meter tree above him twinkle and sparkle brightly with the tiny candles hung on its surface. Small crystal ornaments, too, shone ravishingly in the golden glow of the flames, miniscule amberose sculptures glittering from every angle...
An ornament halfway between the top of the tree and the presents caught Vivi's eye. 'What is it?' he wondered, unsure. It looked like a figure of something...
"Vivi need help?" Quina's large, deep voice inquired from behind the little mage.
He turned around, facing the Qu with an inquisitive smile on his shadowed face. "U-um, I just wanted to know what that ornament up there is?"
"Oh, that one. It very special," Quina said brightly and lifted Vivi into hi/r arms. "You want see it?"
"Could I?" Vivi wondered.
"Of course. I only happy to help." Hefting the tiny doll onto hi/r shoulders, s/he advanced towards the tree carefully. "Uh-oh. We not tall enough..." s/he said softly.
"Look up there," Vivi observed. "It's the Black Waltz Number Two." The graceful [though rather grotesque] doll was reposing on the top of a high column, watching the pair with critically narrowed eyes. "Hello," the little mage called out loudly. "Could you help us?"
The female Waltz narrowed her eyes further and preened several loose feathers from her stately wings. "And why should I?" she rasped in her gravelly voice.
"Um...because it's Ch-Christmas?" Vivi inquired hopefully.
"If it will give you enough reason to leave me alone," Number Two growled and pushed herself off the edge of the column, allowing her wings to cushion her descent towards them. She landed with a whoosh of air, halting herself nearly level with the marble floor. "What is it you want?" she hissed softly.
"The ornament up there, next to the crystal house," Vivi whispered. "Could you lift me so I can see it?"
"I have a better idea," the Waltz muttered. "Why don't I get it for you?" She slowly flapped her wings, then teleported to the halfway point of the tree, four meters up. "How interesting," she sniffed. "I suppose this is what you wanted?"
"I think so," Vivi's small voice responded from below her.
"Then catch it," Number Two said gleefully and tossed the ornament over her shoulder.
"Oh no!" the little mage cried.
"Aiya!" Quina removed hi/r chef's toque and lumbered backwards, holding it over hi/r head. "Must---catch...A-ha!" s/he exclaimed as the ornament thumped into the cloth.
Nestled securely in the white fabric of the head garment was a tiny figurine of a slumbering black mage.
"Ohhhhh..." Vivi reached one hand in to pick the ornament up. "It's..."
"Beautiful," Quina finished. "Is sleepy Vivi, yes?"
"I think so." The mage's crimson-gloved fingers traced over the intricate detail, stopping when they discovered the small moonlike slivers of amber that were the figurine's eyes. "It even has yellow eyes, just like me..."
Number Two sneered. "How precious. What a shame it isn't broken," she grumpily observed and ascended back to her resting place, muttering under her breath all the while.
"She very rude," Quina harrumphed. "You so much nicer."
"Thank you," Vivi said shyly and turned to place the ornament on a lower section of the tree. "There," he breathed as he set it into place next to a figurine resembling a Genome. "That one looks like Zidane..."
"No touch," Quina said gently. "I no think you want to break it."
"Uh-huh," Vivi agreed. "That would be bad...Um, do you think there are any presents for me under the tree?"
"Lots," Quina confirmed. "Wrapped in green." S/he lifted a large, almost spherical object from under the tree and showed Vivi the color of the paper. "You see?"
"Yeah..." Vivi touched the shiny surface of the present carefully. "I wonder what it is...Could it be a Chocobo egg?"
"No is chocobo," Quina denied. "But is egg for sure." S/he patted Vivi's head and held out a hand. "Time to put back under the tree."
"Okay," Vivi said softly and placed the egg into the Qu's large hand, watching as s/he set it near the candles at the bottom. "It'll get warm, huh?"
"It hatch tomorrow," Quina agreed. "It so very light..."
"Yeah," Vivi observed. "Wonder what kind of egg it is?"
"I no have any idea," Quina admitted. "But is time for bed, Vivi. You sleep good...wait for Santa Claus."
"Does Santa really exist?" Vivi wondered, his eyes narrowing sleepily as he yawned.
"Of course he exist! I surprised at you." Quina stomped hi/r feet for emphasis and waggled hi/r tongue. "You sleep now, or Santa no will come."
"You mean he only comes when you sleep?"
"Only when good children go sleep," Quina said joyfully.
"Okay---" Vivi's breath left him in a giggling squeal as Quina picked him up over hi/r shoulder and walked off towards the stairwell. "Quina, you're so funny," he sighed admiringly and nuzzled into hi/r neck, shutting his eyes drowsily.
"Sleepy Vivi go to bed now," Quina rumbled softly, walking into the bedroom Vivi slept in. "And when fall asleep, Santa come with many many presents for good children."
"Does that mean Eiko won't have any?" Vivi wondered sadly. "I think she should have some too." He felt sorrowful at the prospect of the little summoner being disappointed on Christmas Day.
"Hush now," Quina assured. "Eiko have presents too...no worry." S/he drew the covers back and set Vivi gently into the sheets, lifting them up to just under his closed eyes. "Goodnight, Vivi."
"'Night, Quina..." Vivi yawned, and soon drifted off to sleep.
Vivi: 'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring...not even a mouse.
VVL 69: That's right...Freya turned in for the night with a bottle of scotch. XD However, visions of sugarplums aren't the stuff dancing through her head...can you say 'Fratley Claus'?
Fratley: Merry Christmas to me...Freya's wearing her red lace lingerie.
VVL 69: Uh.........Right. G'way, you bother me.
Fratley: All right...*runs merrily up the stairs*
VVL 69: That's all for now, but I'll update soon!
