Chapter 14

Chapter 14

"Yes Yuffie, she went into labor last night. SHe's been havin pains all night, and she really wants you and Vincent to be here. No of course Vincent doesn't have to be in the room!" Yazoo was aggitated. His wife had been screaming in pain all night long, cursing him for doing this to her, and then begging him to come back when he would leave the room. Finally, the midwife had given her an herb that had calmed the pain considerably, allowing Axys to form sentances that didn't include death threats.

"Yazoo, I want Yuffie and Vincent here!" She said, desperately.
"Koi, I don't think she can travel. She's further along than you are . . ." Yazoo said, laying his hand on the fevered skin of her forehead.
"It's just across the ocean, and they have a gold Chocobo, so she won't have to fly or take a boat. Please just ask them?"

Which is why Yazoo now stood outside the house snapping at Yuffie as she asked ridiculous questions.
"Okay, I'm sorry I snapped at you, Yuffie. I'll see you in an hour? What?! How can you get here in fifteen minutes?! No, I haven't seen Vincent in Chaos form . . . Uh-! Oh. Well, okay then. See you in a few." Yazoo hung up the phone and shook the confusion from his head. He sat down on the step and took a deep breath. He was shaking almost uncontrolably. Just as he was about to break down and cry like a little girl, he felt a familiar warmth wash over him. He looked up and saw Loz and Reno zooming into the canyon, Kadaj and Yuri close behind.
"How is she?" Loz asked, jumping off of his bike and leaving Reno to wrestle with the heavy beast. Kadaj parked his bike and rushed to Reno's aid, grabbing the bike just before it toppled into him.
"She's alright. She's inside now, we are expecting Vincent and Yuffie any minute n-" Yazoo started.
"What in the name of Ifrit is THAT?" Yuri exclaimed, pointing at the sky. Yazoo turned and saw a winged demon gently lowering Yuffie to the ground before flying into an ally behind the house. The demon had huge bat-like wings, and dark purple-blue skin. It's eyes were bright yellow and only upon closer observation before the beast disappeared behind the house, did Yazoo recognize the creature as Vincent.
"I think that was Vincent." Yazoo said, scurrying over yo help the very pregnant Yuffie with her luggage. There was a bright pink flash of light, and a few seconds later, the human Vincent emerged from behind the building, dusting off his cloak and reholstering his gun.
Vincent opened his mouth to greet the brothers, but was cut off suddenly by a pained shriek from inside the house. The door opened and the midwife shouted out to Yazoo. "It's time, you need to come back in." Yazoo nodded anxiously and motioned for Yuffie to follow him.
He walked calmly into the house, but broke into a dead run when he heard Axys call his name. He skidded to a halt by her side and grasped her hand. She clutched to him tightly. "It's really happening, Yazoo. I'm a mother!" She gasped and screamed again as another contraction seized her.
"Breath, girl, breath!" the old midwife instructed. Axys attempted to relax and did as she was told.
"Okay, now tell me when you fell the next contraction coming, and when I tell you to, I want you to push." the old woman said.
Axys nodded, then another look of pain crossed her face. "It's coming!" she whimpered, clutching Yazoo's hand tighter.
"Push!" the midwife said, "Push, push, push . . . and . . . good, now breath and when the next contraction starts, you need to push again. We're almost there, sweetheart."
Axys did as she was told, pushing hard every time a contraction took hold of her. The midwife finally banished Yazoo from the room when he became too enthusiastic. Yuffie took his place, kissing Axys on the forehead and squeezing her hand tightly, whispering excitedly.
"I see his head . . . okay, stop pushing for a moment and wait til the next contraction."
Axys did as she was told, and screamed as the midwife helped to pull her son from her body.
The sweet sound of new born cries echoed through the deathly quiet town, suddenly overtaken by a loud chorus of cheers. Yazoo stood silent, watching the door of the house and waiting for the midwife to allow him back inside. The midwife exited the house about a half an hour later, whispering in Yazoo's ear. Yazoo nodded and waited, ready to leap the second Yuffie opened the door.
The pregnant Wutaian girl did open the door, offering her hand to Yazoo. He took it and to his surprise she pulled him in for a tight hug and kissed him on the cheek. She then led him to his bedroom, where Axys waited. Yuffie closed the door behind him and went back outside. The meeting between father and son is a sacred thing, and should be private.
She was exquisite. She had been bathed, and her long hair was pinned up behind her neck. Her body held a golden glow, and her eyes shined with the bright tears of happiness as she looked up at her husband. It was then that Yazoo dared to lower his gaze to the tiny bundle wrapped in her arms. He cautiously walked to his wife, leaning down and gently moving the blue blanket down so he could gaze upon his son. He was perfect. The spitting image of his father, except his eyes and his mouth. Those were his mother's. His silver hair was splotched across the spanse of his soft scalp, darker at the ends and lighter at the roots. He turned his head and kissed Axys with every ounce of love and joy that the universe had to offer.
She lifted their son to him and he took him in his arms, rosking him gently and softly running his finger across a tiny golden cheek. He smiled down at Axys and turned to walk out the door. She settled back down in the blankets and waited to hear the cheers of their friends as their son was presented to the world.

Yazoo walked carefully through the house, a strange familiar pang deep in his soul. He opened the door and stepped outside to complete silence. He looked at his brothers, then to the bundle in his arms. The then lifted his son above his head, and shouted proudly, for every soul in the cosmos to hear, "My son!"
The crowd of people erupted in joyful cheers, and Loz, Kadaj, and Yuri rushed to the steps of the house. Reno and Vincent approached more slowly. Yuri carefully hugged Yazoo and the child in his arms. "Is it alright if I go to Axys?" she asked him. He nodded and told her in which room Axys could be found. Yuffie and Vincent nodded to Yazoo, both going into the house to see their very tired friend. Reno patted Loz's shoulder, announced a "congradulations" to Yazoo, and then joined the others in the house.
It was there, before his father and his uncles, that the child heard his name for the first time. His father leaned down and placed a tender kiss on his new born face and whispered, in a voice filled with devotion and love, "Zurui, my son."

(A.N. - This is the very first birthing scene I have ever written. Please review and tell me how I did? I have plans to write more, but I would like to know if there is anything I need to work on. Thanks in advance!)
