Chapter 1: Some Kind Of Fall
Chapter 1: Some Kind Of Fall.
Yuna sat near the lake on the sandy shore of Besaid Island, meditating before she began her daily duties. Yuna was a young summoner, well trained and determined to take on the world if the calm ever ended. She took in a single deep breath concluding her meditation and slowly rose from her sitting position. She stood and stretched, sighing, she turned around to see Wakka approaching her with a plate of lunch.
"Fish today, ya! Hope you're not bored!" Wakka grinned and carefully passed Yuna the plate with the fish lunch on it. Yuna kindly smiled and smelled the steam coming up from the food.
"Ahh! Well, at least this time it's fried. It makes a difference, but I wouldn't be bored anyway. Thank you Wakka!"
Suddenly from above them, a faint scream could be heard and as they both looked into the sky, something yellow appeared to be falling towards them.
"Oh no! Dive!" Wakka quickly moved and dived towards Yuna to protect her, and they both crashed to the sand at a far enough distance from where the unidentified flying object was targeted to land. Seconds later the screaming reached it's peak and suddenly the yellow-headed body struck the sand and the screaming stopped.
"Whoa... talk about crash landing, ya?" Wakka chuckled and nudged Yuna while she sat back with her hand to her mouth, horrified at the scene she just saw.
"Ah... we... should... help... them." Yuna slowly used her index finger pointing out the situation, and then pointed toward the ground. "Their head is stuck, Wakka."
Wakka scratched his head and blushed at the obvious statement. "Ha ha... uh. Ya! Gotta help the kid then, ya?" He and Yuna quickly rose to their feet, and while Wakka moved in to pull the person's head out of the sand, Yuna stood nearby and watched closely.
"Ooh... I hope they're okay..."
Soon enough, Wakka successfully popped the individual's head out of the sand and laid their body flat on the ground.
"Pokey-headed thing, ya? Yo, you livin' there?" Wakka lightly smacked the boy's cheeks while Yuna walked a little closer and felt the boy's pulse on his neck.
"Well... he's alive... That's a relief." Yuna smiled and softly rubbed the boy's chest.
"Hello, spiky, come on wake up, ya? Spiky? Oh spiky..."
Yuna began to chuckle while Wakka tried to wake the boy. "Wakka, why are you calling him spiky?"
"Well I dunno his real name, ya? And his hair is spiky, so... ya! I'll call him spiky for now."
Yuna continued to chuckle as she playfully glared at him. "Ooooookay. Spiky."
"Ehhh. Yo, Spiky, come on ya.. hey!" Wakka waved Yuna's joke off as he continued to smack the boy's face, and the boy suddenly coughed. They both gasped in suprize and constantly patted the boy to wakefulness.
"Spiky, Spiky..." Wakka continued speaking to him as the boy coughed all of the sand out of his lungs and struggled to sit up.
"Told you... Barrett." His voice was hoarse and he reached up to rub his sore throat. He slowly looked up and looked at his surroundings. He raised an eyebrow at the foreign scenery and he looked around him and saw the two people who seemed to be the ones who woke him up.
"Who... where am I?"
"You're in Besaid, ya! Home of the Besaid Aurochs!" Wakka pumped a happy fist into the air and grinned.
Cloud groaned and rubbed his forehead. "The Besaid... what?"
"Hahaha... Oh nevermind him. You're in Besaid, and I'm Summoner Yuna. It's nice to meet you... What's your name?" Yuna reached out a kind slender hand in offering to Cloud.
"Uh... Cloud. I'm Cloud." Cloud carefully shook Yuna's hand and slowly placed his hand back on the sand. "Uh... So how far am I from the crater?"
"Um..." Both Wakka and Yuna scrunched their faces in thought.
"Uh... What crater?" Wakka raised his arms in surrender and reached out to help Cloud stand.
"You know, the Northern Crater where Sephiroth was and we finally killed him so we could stop the meteor fall... and the lifestream... gushed up and... You guys don't... know?"
Yuna and Wakka shook their heads as they checked the rest of Cloud's outside physical condition.
"All we know Cloud, is... you came crashing down from the sky screaming-" Yuna began.
"And all we saw was your chocobo head comin' down on us and you crashed, ya?" Wakka finished.
Cloud slapped his palm to his forehead and sighed. "Great, not only do I get thrown in another dimension, they still call me chocobo head."
Yuna and Wakka shrugged, not knowing a clue of what Cloud was talking about. Suddenly Yuna cheerfully clasped her hands together and spun around. "Well, he just needs to find his home. And now that Sin is all gone, we can do it easily!"
"As long as we don't get sucked up into some giant slimy killing machine, ya? At least Seymour is sane now." Wakka pointed out.
"Yes. Seymour is doing well, Tidus is getting along with Lulu, just like Auron is back, and Rikku is with him doing odd jobs with the Al Bhed. Kimahri is with his clan, but he keeps in contact with us." Yuna counted off her fingers as she joyfully danced around.
"Looks like anudder case of 'let's go see if something looks familiar to you kiddo'." Wakka chuckled.
"Hey, what are you guys doin' over there?" Tidus showed up from practicing Blitzball with the Aurochs, and was now skipping over to them.
"Hey, kiddo! We just found anudder you that came along ya?" Wakka patted Tidus' shoulder and gestured towards Cloud.
"Another... me? Oh. How did he get here?" Tidus tilted his head to the side and bounced his ball on the sand.
"I kinda... fell. Long story, I guess. I'm Cloud." Cloud stuck out his hand in greeting, and Tidus eagerly shook it.
"Welcome aboard! So... where you from?"
Cloud looked around and shrugged. "Nibelheim... another dimension from what I figure."
"Ohh... Okay. So you didn't get sucked up by some big monster thing that destroyed your hometown and everybody with it, and that you probably brought with you, huh?" Tidus waved his hand in gesture and placed his ball behind his head.
"N..No... Except I don't know what happened to Sephiroth. I did kill him though, but..."
"You think he's gonna come back alive? Who is this... Sephiroth character anyway, ya?" Wakka asked.
"Well... He's an ex Shin-ra Soldier General that went mad because he found out what kind of experiment he was, and he had Jenova cells, and he went mad and tried to destroy the world with meteor-"
"...And you probably brought him with you." Tidus finished.
"I don't know where he is." Cloud shook his head.
"Well, as long as he's not alive gettin' hints from Seymour's madman hotline, then we're all safe, ya?"
"Wakka!" Yuna glared at Wakka.
"I'm just sayin' ya?"
"Who's... Seymour?" Cloud asked.
"Oh! Seymour Guado was the Maester of Yevon. Well... he turned out to be the bad guy and he tried to marry me so he could have more power because I'm a High Summoner, and... well all of Yevon was corrupted and it all eventually led to Sin and we finished Seymour and Sin off, and restored peace to the world." Yuna explained, and she finished with a content sigh.
"Ya, but now he's alive... but sane. Maybe that could have happened to your Sephiroth guy eh?" Wakka waved his hands and rubbed his chin.
Cloud shivered. "I'm afraid that's a little too much to ask for... especially after what happened. Too many innocent people died."
"You're not the only one here who has had their share of losses." Cloud looked around for the smooth yet slightly solemn voice, hoping it could be someone he knew. Unfortunately it wasn't, but a mature looking woman appeared from the trees in the distance, wearing a dress accessorized with leather and too many buckles to count. "My apologies. My curiosity urged me to eavesdrop for a moment before I made myself known. How are you, Yuna?"
"I'm fine Lulu, thanks. This is Cloud, he... fell from the sky."
Lulu nodded in his direction and gave a faint smile. "How interesting. I hope this doesn't prove Auron's blonde joke to be a... statement of fact."
Tidus huffed and dropped his blitzball. "Hey!"
"Well you didn't fall and get your head stuck in sand at least, ya? You just hit water." Wakka nodded.
"Actually, at the right distance, the impact of one's head with water can have the same effect as if... they fell and got their head stuck in sand, or even worse. Hmm, Auron may have been right afterall." Lulu turned in and breathed in the warm air.
"Heeeeey!" Tidus waved at Lulu and groaned.
"Now, now. It was only a joke, Tidus... and it's Auron you should yell at for the joke afterall. He has a good sense of humor when he uses it."
"Heh, sounds like somebody I know." Cloud chuckled.
"Really? Who are they?" Wakka asked.
"Well. His name is Vincent Valentine. He wears this red cloak all the time, and he's got long black hair, and we found him-"
"Whoa whoa whoa whoa! You sure you're not talking about Auron?" Tidus ran to Cloud and shook him by the shoulders
"No way. I haven't met anybdoy like Vincent."
"I don't know, Cloud. You're in another dimension afterall." Yuna pointed out.
"That's true. Even though I have no clue who you're talking about, I have this feeling your friend may be similar to him, if not his double." Lulu chimed in.
"Ya! We should get you some nourishment, and then talk more, eh?"
"Sounds good Wakka. I'm starved." Cloud agreed, then the small party left for the mainland to get something to eat.
----------
Fair eyelids opened up to a vast reflection of his sky blue eyes. He blinked a few times and felt his surroundings. He looked left and saw nothing but sand, and he looked right and saw more sand. He groaned and reached for his cigarettes, but they weren't on his goggles. He groaned again and sat up, finally seeing his cigarettes lying at his feet in the sand. He reached for them when he had a good look in the distance where he saw airships, jets, small airplanes, and other machinery he couldn't name.
Cid stopped reaching for his cigarettes and gawked at the marvelous sight he saw. "I'm in fuckin' heaven." And his eyes rolled backwards and he fainted.
Minutes later, heavy footsteps approached his body and he was closely being observed. The man looking at him had checked for a pulse and then checked his features. He stood up from where he crouched and pulled out a small walkie-talkie from his coat pocket and pressed the talk button.
"Rikku, I found a man. He's not with us, but he looks innocent, and he's alive. Come quick, we should transport him."
"On my way!"
The man huffed and slipped the walkie talkie back into his pocket and checked unconscious Cid for identification. He reached into his back pocket where he found his wallet, which luckily contained the identification he needed.
"Cid Highwind... Rocket Town? What on earth..." He shook his head and sighed, placing the wallet into his own pocket. "I can't have the kid looting his important information, thankfully the poor guy is solid broke."
