Chapter 20
Chapter 20
“Yazoo, get up.” Loz said.
Yazoo groaned and did as he was told. “I’m . . . me again.” He said. “Does this mean that . . . Kadaj . . .”
“I would imagine.” Loz said. Looking up at the building they had landed in front of. He was amazed. He had been sure that they were done for when he saw the missiles heading for them.
Yazoo captured his attention when he fell forward onto his hands, sobbing. “I’ve done it again, Loz, only this time I killed her with my own hands! I couldn't stop myself!” he cried.
“I know, brother. Reno is gone too. And you heard ShinRa before we caught him, Yuri killed herself. They are all gone. It's just us now. But you still have Zurui, and you know that the others will understand.”
“Zurui . . .” Yazoo whimpered. “Forgive me, my son.” He stood, a look of reluctant acceptance overtaking his youthful face. “Let’s go, Loz. You know what we have to do. We don't deserve the second chance we've been given.”
Loz followed as he always did, not asking for elaboration and not needing it. They had done unspeakable things, and deserved to suffer for it.
They walked in silence for a while, the only sounds being Yazoo's pained gasps when he would crouch to look more closely at the trail that they were following.
"Yazoo?" Loz asked.
"What?" Yazoo said.
"I . . . I love you, my brother. I am proud to have met you."
Yazoo smiled, sadly. "Let's be brothers in our next life, then. No more pain, no more Mother. Just our family as it should have been." Yazoo held out his arm.
Loz smiled and took Yazoo's forearm in his hand, Yazoo grasping at him as well.
"To death." He said.
"To death." Yazoo agreed.
They found Cloud standing on a rooftop in the Midgar Ruins.
“I’m glad they found it.” Yazoo said. “I was worried they wouldn’t take my note seriously.” Loz looked at him, confused, but knew better than to ask. It would do no good. He really didn't need to know.
“Well, my brother,” Loz said, slinging his arm around the already injured Yazoo. “Are you ready to see her again?”
Yazoo looked to the sky.
“Yes.” He said. He raised his gun and fired his perfectly aimed shot into Clouds shoulder.
An angry cry, a high jump, and a large explosion later, and Yazoo found himself staring into the face of the woman that had decided his fate.
“Axys . . .”
When Cloud awoke in the pool, he knew it was over. When he heard the cheers of his friends, minus one, he felt it wash over him. Warmth, understanding. Forgiveness. Always forgiveness.
He knew his life would never be the same. He walked to the brunette woman holding a small silver-haired boy, and took him from her arms.
“Let me tell you a story,” he said to the child in his arms, “about a warrior in distress, and the damsel that rescued him.”
A.N. - A short chapter, but it gets the point across, don't you think?
