Disclaimer:
I do not own Final Fantasy! Trust me, if I did Crisis Core would have been pure yaoi! Also, I make no money from this fic.
Too surreal to discribe.
Of course Cloud wasn’t expecting his wish to come true. It was just another white lie to make himself feel better. If it were to come true, he expected the Turks or police or something to help him… Though he had saved himself from Sephiroth, the silver haired demon, but the memories were engraved into his mind forever… He shakily stood. Backing away, his eyes wide and frightened. It didn’t seem the dark haired other had even noticed him until he spoke.
“Hey… D’ya think you could help me out here?” He asked, not turning around. Just attempting another escape. “It’s kinda…” ‘Thud’ another failed escape. “Difficult, y’know?” He ran a hand through his ebony spikes. I should be able to do this… I mean… “ Another attempted escape. “I used to be a first class SOLDIER…” ‘Thud’ and again, another failed escape. “He sighed, brushing himself off before turning to face the new arrival into his… Crater. He chuckled, thinking it was probably some sort of animal that had fallen in. At least he could eat if it was. “Not very talkative are… Ya…” Zack froze upon seeing the ‘intruder’. “C-Cloud…?” He said, blinking in disbelief. “Th-that’s really you… R-right?” He asked. He was hungry. Or maybe it was the hit on the head he received form one of his escape attempts. This had to be an hallucination. There was no way his best friend, of all people on the face of the planet could be standing in front of him. The chances were… One in a million. He guessed the man standing a good few yards away wasn’t real… He just stood there, staring. ‘Damn… Would have been great to see Cloud again.’ her mentally sighed, making a note to track the real Cloud down once he’d managed to get out of this mess. And remember at least 90% of everything that happened that lead him to this point.
“Right… Here we go again.” Zack released a small sigh, looking over his shoulder at the blonde. Of course it was just for a little encouragement. That or he wanted to make sure the other wasn’t real. Just looking may not be enough, you couldn’t touch something that wasn’t there right? He remembered a few movies he had seen back in his SOLDIER days. Things like ghosts or hallucinations would normally disappear before the victim of it’s haunting could touch it and see if it was real… So that might be the case this time, right? It was worth a try at least. And so, Zack proceeded toward the blonde ‘ghost’/’Hallucination’. “Lets get this over with, I gotta get outta here already…” He said to himself, each step seemed like something was pushing him forward, probably just his mind messing with him though. He blinked looking at Cloud, if it really was him. ‘He looks so real though…” He bowed slightly to become eye level with Cloud. The blonde flinched and backed away until his footing lead him to standing on the slope of the crater a little, causing him to slip and land with a soft thud on his backside. Due to his very recent encounter with Sephiroth, the fall wasn’t exactly… pleasant. He released a sharp yelp at the impact upon his behind and stared up at Zack again, watching him warily. ‘I’ve gotta be dreaming… Zack’s dead… And…’ Cloud looked up more, right up at the sky. ‘I’m out… I’m free.’ He sighed, looking back down. “This is a dream, huh?” he said, ( though ‘Squeaked’ would probably be a more accurate word for how Cloud spoke his words.)
‘It spoke…” Zack blinked in surprise, ‘I mean… He spoke…’ He offered his hand to the fallen other, hoping he would take it. It was strange, after all this time and after everything that had happened this was how the two had been brought back together. Cloud stared at the hand for a few seconds before hesitantly taking it and therefore proving, for both of them, the other was really there.
“Zack…?” Cloud whispered, shaking. “It’s… Really you.” He reached up, touching the older male’s face in disbelief. This whole ordeal was so surreal to him…
“Yup. I the flesh.” Zack whispered back, gods knew why he whispered it, maybe he was just as shocked as Cloud. Probably… Maybe as a comfort, though how it could be of comfort to the blonde other was uncertain. But even so he leaned into the warm touch of Cloud’s hand. He released content sigh. Looking down into Cloud’s eyes. They weren’t blue, well they weren’t as blue as they used to be, that was probably the four years the lived in mako tanks, Cloud’s mako poisoning. ‘Looks like he recovered just fine…’ Zack smiles, running a hand through Cloud’s hair before pulling him into a hug. Squeezing his eyes shut.
“Zack?” Cloud just remained still. Unable to move much more, Zack was handling this reunion well… But he hadn’t had to live out those past years alone. Watched Aerith die. Unable to do anything. Zack hadn’t had to do all of that. Cloud had. He had done it alone, though his ‘childhood friend’, as she liked to refer to herself last time Cloud saw her, Tifa had offered her support. Cloud just pushed it away.
Realisation had hit him a while ago about what Tifa was doing. She had actually only started caring when Cloud had left to join SOLDIER. And that was reason enough to regard her as just a friend after all this time. Though she had dropped hints she wanted to be more than that, at which Cloud had just ignored them. He honestly didn’t think she deserved his friendship, let alone his partner or… Wife!
“’Kay Cloudy?” Zack said with a grin, staring into Cloud’s mako spliced eyes.
“Huh?” Cloud tilted his head slightly, having gotten lost in his thoughts he had forgotten about his supposed-to-be-dead friend. “Wait what?”
“We’re gonna get outta here and straighten all this out… ‘Kay?” Zack said for a second time.
“Oh… But…” Cloud shook his head, he didn’t want to be let go. Zack holding him like this felt so good, his friend was warm and he hadn’t had this kind of treatment in a while. A long while. A year. Long enough.
“But…?” Zack asked, pulling away a little to look at Cloud properly. “What’s up?”
“Can you just…” Cloud wrapped his arms around Zack’s neck again, keeping him in an embrace. He didn’t realise he had tensed until Zack put his arms around his slim waist to return the embrace. This felt safe… He felt safe now. Nothing could hurt him… Nobody could.
“Could I just…?” Zack persisted.
“Hold me like this… For a little longer…” Cloud whispered, closing his eyes. This just felt too right for it to be spoilt. By anything.
Though something could, and it was. To be more precise, someone could. And he was going to. Determined to regain his plaything and cut whatever freedom Cloud had gained short…
[ Soo sorry this chapter took it's time being put up.
